Still waiting... still seems to be in Netherlands ;_; Be sure to check the parcelforce tracking ID you have on the shipping page as well, I found the GLS one never really updated. You're looking for the parcelforce one to say arrived in the UK; you'll probably get it the day after that happens. Was exactly a week for me from order to arriving.

My Deck arrived today. Wow. It feels great in my massive hands. Wayyyy nicer to hold than Switch.

Apparently the last of the Q2 mails are out - hopefully this means a bit of movement on the UK 512 list as it's been at a dead stop of late. A massive 8 seconds worth of orders with this new batch!

So, what are Steam Deck tips for newcomers? Things to turn off/on/settings to tweak etc etc?

Make use of the screen's 40Hz mode in more demanding games, it's a big jump over 30fps without the heat and power requirements of a full 60. If you're looking at emulating games, look into Emudeck - it's very good and gets more and more comprehensive all the time. You can expect to cover most systems up to even some PS3 and Switch games with the Deck due to its relatively powerful processor.
And remember that it's a handheld PC so the CPU and graphics chip are both competing for resources, both in terms of heat output (fan noise!) and battery consumption. You can run a lot of modern games at surprisingly good quality with good performance with a little tweaking.

Also, look up the guides for getting Proton GE on there (and understanding what it is). A lot of games that have glitches will work perfectly using GE (although the reverse is true in some cases as well)

It’s a setting in the quick menu (… button) under battery. You set screen refresh and frame rate limit to 40.
Then, if a game doesn’t agree with that (like a pixel art game that’s better at 60), you activate per-game profile when in-game and the refresh and limit you then set will be applied for that game only.

To be contrary, I leave the 60/60 as the default because so far I have been playing more indie games than demanding titles, then use the per-game profile when in a certain game.
Both options are so convenient that everyone wins anyway!

Some good news about production. Hopefully we will see things speeding up a bit.

Both options are so convenient that everyone wins anyway! That's a sensible choice, too. And yes, Valve make it very easy to switch between settings. I limited both fps and TDP in Steam because I don't want to waste battery on that.

The OS seems really intuitive which is a pleasant surprise given it's their first stab at handheld. The Vive could be a very frustrating experience early on, but I guess that was a very new medium.
Aperture Desk Job is so brilliant. Raised a lot of laughs in its short run time. As usual, makes you wish Valve would make more games.

I bought Eastward in the sale – dayum, it's an anime fan's wet dream. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous and the world-building looks terrific.

I really want to check it out, but I'd prefer it on Switch. The discount there isn't big though. edit: ahh, same price as Switch. oh well.

Is Dosbox supported? I feel like there should be potential for old games on the go.

How long is the wait for one of these if you order one today? Very roughly.

Well, I ordered mine a little after reviews came out and according to the sites that estimate delivery I'm looking to be getting one in over a year. I'm assuming that isn't accurate though. Official info from Valve just gives a vague "after q3". I'm kind of assuming it isn't going to be in 2022.

I remember thinking I'll just put the deposit down and make up my mind when reviews come out. Still haven't totally made up my mind, but no doubt I'll be straight in there when my email arrives.

It's pretty damn great. If you have reasonable Steam catalogue already it's kind of a no brainier.

Interestingly, the new AI Somnium Files counts time spent in suspend as game time, so my timer is now at 99 hours 59 m 59 s. I'm sure it works just fine on Playstation and its suspend, so must be a bug in the PC version; probably no one expected users to sleep their machines with the game running.

That seems to be common for suspend on Deck. If it’s the Steam counter it does eventually properly reset itself to remove suspended time. If it’s in game then yeah, probably not going to be fixed.

I bought a whole bunch of new games to play on my Steam Deck. Dorfromantik is really chilled, great after a long day. Otherwise... What am I playing? Hades... 35 hours prior to getting the Deck and I'm back playing Hades. It's a perfect fit.
It's obvious to say, but really I love how I now have my entire Steam library instantaneously available to me. Wake up from standby, of you go. It really has console convenience with PC choice.
