I bought a whole bunch of new games to play on my Steam Deck. Dorfromantik is really chilled, great after a long day. Otherwise... What am I playing? Hades... 35 hours prior to getting the Deck and I'm back playing Hades. It's a perfect fit. It's obvious to say, but really I love how I now have my entire Steam library instantaneously available to me. Wake up from standby, of you go. It really has console convenience with PC choice. A Dorfromantik purchase is what made me end up with zero moans from the wife for "buying more stuff that you don't have time to play". She had just seen trailers for it a week or two before and was bemoaning its lack of a Switch release. The machine is officially named 'The Dorf machine" now though...

I didn't think the trend for chilled out games with little or no objective was really for me, but I'm onboard now I've played Dorf. Tonic for the daily grind.

I've definitely started buying more games to add to my already ridiculous steam library thinking "I bet that'll play well on the deck", even though I don't even bloody well own one.
Just grabbed Dorf too.

Still enjoying the Steam Deck when I find the time!
I had been messing about with getting Heroic/Epic Games working and it has been a bit hit and miss (I just need things to be a bit plug and play nowadays...) so I've picked up a few games in the Steam sale and it's much nicer being able to launch them directly. Tempted now to re-purchase some of the games directly which I had got for free/cheap previously on the Epic store or even on the Switch just so I've got them in one place (Civ VI, Disco Elysium, Slay the Spire).
Picked up Dorfromantik based on the comments above - I can see myself losing a lot of time to that!

Is it easy to get Amazon Prime games working?
I've been slowly adding them to my account ahead of getting a Deck, but I think it's got its own launcher? Right?

I keep going back to Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. €1,99 now too. Geometry Wars 3 was decent enough. A bit of variety in levels, and the boss music was fantastic. I've got that on my Vita, though. Still totally on the fence about putting money down on mine given how little I play the Vita and Switch undocked as it is.

Interestingly, the new AI Somnium Files counts time spent in suspend as game time, so my timer is now at 99 hours 59 m 59 s. I'm sure it works just fine on Playstation and its suspend, so must be a bug in the PC version; probably no one expected users to sleep their machines with the game running. Nope, I went back to the PS menu and left it running and the game kept running as a result! I can't remember if I put the console in rest mode but putting the Switch in "sleep mode" somehow doesn't stop the clock running on Knights of the Old Republic, my five hour save went to over 50 when I picked it up again a couple of days later... Still waiting for my Steam Deck email, come ooooooon!

Doooooo iiiiiit! I got mine the other week, it arrived in about 4 days. To be fair I haven't played with it much as I was away at the weekend, but it's great.
Admittedly I did load up my Steam balance over a few months to take the sting of the payment away. It felt like I had already paid for it when the email came through.

Yeah I probably should have put some money away each month. It isn't like I can't afford it (oooh moneybags over here).. it's more that I barely play on my Series X, which I've got game pass for. I mostly play on PS5/Switch.

Not bad, I managed to get a 400gb for £32 last year.
I'm assuming those speeds are plenty for the steam deck?

Ahh, might as well so that on a mobile with a gamepad cradle (I'm sure the Deck is better and more convenient but not a world apart)

Haven't used it in the deck, but I've got one and the read speeds are OK (but by no means mind-blowing), but writes are pretty awful. 38MB/s on any benchmark I've run, so would be a bit of a bottleneck for installing stuff if you've got a decent internet connection. I'll probably still use mine in the deck anyway, and actually tempted by the 1TB

I get 4MB/s download speed at best, so suits me!
Guess you could keep SSD space free, download to that and then transfer to SD card at more convenient moment.
Tbh, read speeds are most important thing imo. As long as loading screens etc don't take ages. Tend to just download games overnight anyway.

PS plus seems more of a hassle, quelle surprise.

Requires some command line shenanigans, but ps5 streaming is a possibility too apparently.

I got rather burned by Steam Link (although to be fair I got a reasonable amount of use out of it before they dropped it)
Probably would buy one now if they were readily available, but I'm not holding my breath!

I just don't learn! Got a Steam Link and a Steam controller in a drawer somewhere. I didn't buy a Steam PC thank god, but the Deck seems much better thought through, and better value.

Steam Deck is the best thing they've made quality-wise. It's really tight. I've not tried Index, but the Vive was also really good after the initial year or so of bugfixing.
Link/Controller/etc were definitely far more janky.
I think they've learned a lot through their various hardware projects.

Yep, a link and a controller gathering dust here too. The controller was an amazing experiment, but really needed two analogue sticks and an actual d-pad. The Deck controls nailed it imo, and I wouldn’t be hugely shocked to see a controller mk2 based on it.
Also have a Steam Machine (or what was supposed to be one at least) currently powering my arcade cabinet.

Great shout. Is this the ideal class for the Steam Deck?

It should be fine.
That being said I’d recommend keeping the SD card for roms or other non-Steam stuff and keep the bulk of Steam stuff on the internal storage. Games run fine off the SD card but plenty of reports that it impacts UI performance and responsiveness when you have a lot on there. Things like it being very slow to sleep/wake, big throttles on download speeds, etc etc. I’ve definitely noticed it even with a top end SD card.
