Just so you know, my missus just told me if she was going bald and some guy took the piss, she'd fully expect me to Welcome Ta Earth him. She's totally Camp Smith. I doubt that's unusual, tbh. reminds me of this: It's a pretty open "if someone deserves a slap, you give them a slap" mentality. But the same people would still likely argue that violence, generally, is bad.

If it was a WWE event, I’d agree. But no one would agree to getting twatted and not getting paid for it.

I'm sure his wife could/should have done it herself.

For a slap it didn’t make a very satisfying sound.

But if no one thinks it's staged, then it may as well not be. This makes no sense to me. The whole point of staging anything is that people think it’s real. Again I’m not some conspiracy nut, and again I’m not strictly saying I think it is staged. But the idea that an industry that is entirely based on faking stuff for entertainment wouldn’t or couldn’t possibly fake stuff for entertainment is a bit odd. I just don't understand how there could be a different end outcome for Will Smith between "it was for real" and "everyone thinks it was for real". I get that you're not saying it definitely was staged, and I do agree it looks odd.

Didn't seem staged to me, the slap itself looked a bit dodgy but Will's shouting and reaction afterwards definitely looked authentic. And somehow I don't think the awards guys would want to organise a bit which basically condones going up on stage and hitting a comedian if they offend you.

That’s the sort of thing that could be achieved by staging something like this. Or equally something less worthy, like Smith and Rock having an upcoming film where they fight each other or whatever. Same deal. Controversy and spectacle to result in engagement.

Real or staged, it's irrelevant. My takeaway from all this is that it's ok to hit people who tell bad jokes.

Chris Rock thinks Will Smith is having a bit of a laugh and was going to do a "bit" together where he pretends to be offended. Then he slaps him in the dace and Chris Rock realises he isnt fucking around and has got this all wrong. Will Smith then goes back to his seat and really starts to lose his cool. That is the entire story.

Why would either of them agree to stage something that makes them look like assholes? Someone said it was a fight with three losers. At least it was more entertaining than the James Cordon x Patrick Stewart back and forth.

Real or staged, it's irrelevant. My takeaway from all this is that it's ok to hit people who tell bad jokes. More specifically, a bad joke told to millions of people and in front of a live crowd including your wife aimed at a disease your wife suffers from in inviting everyone to laugh at her expense. Totally deserved a slap but should have been done after the show.

Why would either of them agree to stage something that makes them look like assholes? Because they're Hollywood stars who have no link to reality and hav no conception of what makes them look like arseholes?

So, I have recently learned;
A roast joke over a public figure who has been incredibly public of a non life threatening medical condition - to the extent of using said condition to generate attention and revenue - is completely out of bounds for comedy in a setting where roasting people has been the the tradition for decades
People can say certain things which, if they trigger an anger response which leads to violence, totally deserve getting physically assaulted
Chris Rock can take a hit and retain a professional composure to a truly remarkable degree
Will Smith, despite years of movie training, including how to box like Mohamed Ali, slaps like a little biatch.
My daughter best not take the piss out of my thinning hair again otherwise she’s getting fucking decked

My daughter best not take the piss out of my thinning hair again otherwise she’s getting fucking decked I'm not trying to defend Smith here, slapping him in general is a bit much as a response and it was made worse by the timing, but there is the point to be made that Rock made it personal. I doubt there would have been a slapping if he targeted someone else's family with that joke, at least not by Smith. Plus, again, he's apparently been taking the piss out of Smith and his wife for a while now so unless they've been talking behind the scenes and reassuring each other that it's all for the bit (which, if nothing else, his wife certainly didn't agree with based on her expression), I could see it coming to a head eventually. Again, not trying to justify the slap, violence in any situation should really be a last resort if used at all (unless you're already on the receiving end of violence yourself I suppose), but it seems to me like an "everyone kinda sucks here" situation rather than only one of the two being at fault. He does slap like a little biatch though.
