Defending the honour of a partner? Maybe he should have slapped him with a velvet glove and they could have duelled at dawn. You can repackage assault however you like, unless your being attacked hitting people is for preschoolers, domestic abusers and the emotionally unstable. I didn't make that argument, fwiw. Just suggested that I thought I'd read it. But nor did anyone make the argument you were suggesting, which was a strawman. |

I think he was/ is making the Tom Hanks transition, just very, very late. Hanks did it after a few comedies. Smith has done it after about a decade of duds. To say he's still bankable is nonsense. He wasn't even asked back for Suicide Squad 2. Tom hanks didn't do Boom! Shake the Room. Even though he should have. My life would be complete if that was to ever happen. Nothing would ever top that spectacle. |

Pretty much my mindset as well at this point. I'd like to think I wouldn't react that way right from the get-go but if someone kept insisting on saying something insulting and hurtful to someone I care about I could see myself reaching my limit and seeing red eventually. We're humans, we have emotions, sometimes we act out because of those emotions, self-restraint is far from flawless. Was the act in this case correct? No. Was it understandable? Potentially, yes. |

I have smacked someone who was extremely disrespectful to one of my exes, so I'm either a traditional alpha chad or the scum of the emotionally disturbed earth, take your pick.
The guy was laughing about her being previously sexually assaulted, for what it's worth, and he was mates with the guy who had assaulted her.
He didn't get back up. I probably wouldn't do it now, mostly because I am old and scared of my frail old man bones breaking like Mr Burns'. I dunno, I might.
