Just ordered Overkill, £9 complete delivered which I'm happy with. I'll let you know how I get on. Based on the box art they're really changing up the vibe compared to the mainline games? Which is fine as it was getting pretty formulaic Good price. Yeah, the vibe is mad in this one. Imagine quentin tarantino directing a video game made with grindhouse 70s vibes, a funky as fuck soundtrack, ultra violence and enough swearing to get a guiness book of records entry and you're on the right track.

A mate had one back in the day, and my go to was always GunHead (Blazing Lazers in America). A cracking vertical shooter, but not as mental as the Cave output. The version of R-Type was also by far the best home version, but then you can get that on anything these days. I've heard about the good R-Type port before and it seems like a staple for the system. I'll pick it up, ta IIRC it might have been split onto 2 carts, as it was so big, but might have been a later version with both - or maybe that was a US/JAP thing

I've gone on a mad one and now have a PC Engine (Core Grafx), boxed Super CD-ROM add-on and a copy of Castlevania on the way.
Easily the most money I've spent to play one game. Pray with me that it holds its value

My big brother owned an Atari 800XL when I was growing up and I loved going on it. Very fond memories. Games were still cool on Emulators but not quite the same. I have the computer now and it still works but only game I have is Miner 2049'er on cartridge that amazingly still works.
Well I'm not stuck with one game anymore. Splashed out on an SDrive Max disk emulator and now can run every game I played as a kid on the original hardware! Oh man the memories!
Now need a small TV with phono inputs and I can set it up properly at a desk. Playing on a 55 inch 4K TV isn't the best way to relive it!

Ha my Atari 2600 is hooked up to my 55" OLED via RF that's one system I've never at all seen the point of getting a clean picture from. I'm always mildly amused by the idea that modern TVs now typically support RF and HDMI exclusively with absolutely nothing in between

I was a C64 kid, but I've been catching up on other systems lately, and the Atari looks so interesting to me. All those custom chips, and it even had what you might call the first GPU. I guess it must have been the most powerful home computer in 1979, probably the only one capable of running some arcade ports that actually resembled the arcade version, but it must have also been very expensive. Still, imagine having one of those, while everybody else had either an Apple 2, or an TRS80s or whatever.

Any PC Engine/Turbografx fans? I don't really know what's good on this system other than a few classics which are not cheap R-type, the super star soldier series, Batman, don doko don, bloody wolf, legendary axe 1 and 2, alien crush, gunhead, legend of hero tonma, military madness, ninja spirits, lords of thunder, Mr heli and dungeon explorer. All good and there is plenty more.

Well, shit. My excitement of having a fully working Atari up and running was cut short. It won't power on anymore. Worked fine and was playing loads of games then next time I tried it, it won't power up. I'm hoping it's the old power supply and it hasn't caused any damage to the machine, so I've ordered a usb power cable for it. If it's dead now after all that I'll be mortified

If it's completely unresponsive then I would assume the power supply, but even if not my hunch would be that its a simple repair.

Chapter 3. By the way what's the correct way to reload? It seems to respond to a waggle but it's sometimes reloading when I don't want it to.

I just waggle the gun. I think there is a reload button but I never bother and just waggle
Also, combat shotgun is the way to go, fully upgraded

Yes. There's an option between the levels to go to the gun shop. You'll see it.
The gold brains are worth shooting, along with saving the civilians, and if you can, try and get to goregasm on the accumulater. Most time I fuck up my gorgasm when trying to hit the brains or items or power ups. I tend to either focus on the power ups *or* do the accumulater - I'm too crap to do both at once plus you need to learn the layouts of the levels when the camera moves about etc to know when you can take some risky shots

Oh, and after on, when you've completed it and unlocked directors cut (which is basically the standard game mode - think of the first run through just a big tutorial), and also when you've learnt the layouts as they're different to the first run through, you can select extra zombies and dual wield. That way, when you git gud, you can use one gun for the zombies purely, and the other for the power ups / bonuses etc. Just *don't miss anything* easier said than done. It's got some hilarious achievements too - one of them is to complete a level 'gangster style' where you have to hold the gun at 45 degrees all the way through.

Anyone have any recommendations for GBA flash cards? Going to modernise my GBA and wanted a single card rather than pissing about and using the massive GB carts. Found an EZflash Omega on eBay but it seems a trifle expensive?

Just started an old ARPG called Fate. Apparently it was an early game by the Torchlight developers, so I kinda expected it to be a Diablo clone... but I didn't think it would be this much of a clone. Aside from the cartoony 3D graphics, just about everything else is the same, from the menus to the UI to the systems. Just about the only meaningful addition is a pet, which is nice I guess, but does little to hide other similarities.
On the plus side, it does have automatic gold pickup, something that D2 really could have used.

I've righted another wrong of my youth.... I hired out Broken Sword in 96/97 on the PS1 when I had a school mate over, I don't think we made it very far past the first hour or so before ditching it (in fairness, not a good game to hire out for fun with a mate!). Despite being a huge pnc fan I never touched it again, until starting it a couple of weeks ago! It was kinda surreal firing it up after all this time, I remembered all of the initial cafe scene etc. Completed it yesterday, my god what a great game, loved it so much I've just dived straight in to BS2. I would message my mate and tell him I finally played it again after all these years, but we went our separate ways at the end of high school within the next year, and never spoke again

I really would love to know how you'll manage that scene on BS2 on the PS1, where you need to drag the cursor over really quickly, before getting shot. I don't think I ever managed it!

Hah! Yep I was not aware of the infamous goat when I got to that section, faffed around for christ knows how long between the pub and goat/dig site wondering what I had missed before succumbing (for the first time up til that point, in my defense) to the internet. Turns out the goat is quite the celebrity
I think I had to check the 'net two more times after that, one I've forgotton but the last one was depressingly the very last main puzzle, I didn't realise there were two clickable parts of the winch machine in the church ruins (I think they could made that a bit more ovbvious, though...).

I read online that people had similar trouble with the goat puzzle in 1 on the PS1, the cursor was too slow to get across to the piece of iron. Maybe I should be glad I didn't play it through all those years ago, it may have ended up in a broken PS1 controller

I played it on my phone, when they re-released them and thought to myself.. how did I ever think this was hard?

Pray with me that it holds its value Well Castlevania is amazing at least! Out of interest does anyone know why the PC Engine CD ROM units have their own AV port? I'd assumed it was the only way to get CD audio but I tried the port on the console itself out of curiosity and it works fine. Such an interesting console. It's like a NES in terms of gameplay and control but with graphics like a Megadrive. And then with CD quality audio and cutscenes. Apparently the CD unit confers no extra processing power at all and is literally just a route to more storage and redbook audio.
