Noob retro question guys.... my little boy was watching a youtube video showing PES games through the ages, and I made the fatal mistake of saying "I still have my old Playstation and PS2 and games in the loft". So he made me drag my PS2 down to play PES3. I totally forgot about the ballache of old cables, ended ending up going PS2 > composite yellow/red/white > USB video capture dongle > VLC Media Player on my PC lol.... absolute shambles, couldn't get any sound (yes I plugged red/white in as well) and video just jumped around. What's the easiest and cheapest way of getting this going through HDMI or do I not want to know?

They look awful but tbf the price is right. RGB SCART to Retrotink 2x was my solution for a while. A RAD2X cable is the same thing in a single cable if you can find one. Cream of the crop is HD Retrovision cables into a Retrotink 5x. Absolutely stunning quality but not cheap. Just don’t use a generic AV to HDMI adapter as they introduce a ton of lag. Actual gameplay implications. Same argument against using a string of different cheap adapters. |

KD Psiloc thanks guys, appreciate it, I'll look into these options. Really cool seeing the PS2 booting up even without sound and finding all my old save files on a mem card! It must have been the first time I've turned it on since packing it up when I got a 360. You really can't be a bit of retro gaming nostalgia, can you?

Gunblade and Ghost Squad are pretty decent too (gunblade is machine gun based though)on Wii and also Sega gun games. I think the only other notable ones are the Resident Evil Chronicles games. |

Make sure you play it until you get to the hospital level- ballistic trauma. The music is fantastic. And don't forget to complete it to get the Directors Cut version, which is harder, more zombies and a more extensive route through the levels. And shoot the gold brains whenever you can! A fully upgraded combat shotgun is your friend, trust me on this. Finally, when you've done directors cut mode you get the optional selectons of dual wield (amazing) and More Zombies (also amazing) I've got to fire it up now, purely for solidarity reasons! I am envious of your position in this! |

I got the PS2 to HDMI adapter that's very similar to that. Literally just tried it a few hours ago. Going component into a 4k TV is fucking dreadful, the adapter doesn't makes it look far less foggy and just sharpens it up that bit more so it's playable. Well worth it for what little money it is. |

I had a good blast on it last night with a new game. Fuck, forgotten everything and had a few beers which didn't help.
So loaded up my old save and went through it with the fully upgraded combat shotgun.
Boy, that was fucking glorious!

A cracking vertical shooter, but not as mental as the Cave output. The version of R-Type was also by far the best home version, but then you can get that on anything these days. |

My stupid arse misread the listing and it was the Overkill hand cannon, but no Overkill game, just HOTD 2&3  so that would explain why it was such a "bargain". Still I tried it out and it transpires I need to figure out a sensor bar situation as I'm clearly sitting too close to the screen. It works OK with other Wii games but using a gun really shows up how off it is. I'll have another look tonight. The peripheral itself though is great! Best Wii zapper attachment thing by a clear mile |

It's never bang on, but I just focus on the reticle on the screen as opposed to 'down the sights' Still all mightily worth it as its a fantastic game. Let me know how you get on |

If you're into lightguns and have some money burning a hole in your pocket I can recommend the Sinden. I built the PS1/PS2 adapter and play it on real hardware and it really is as good as the real thing. Actually better considering the recoil

Just ordered Overkill, £9 complete delivered which I'm happy with. I'll let you know how I get on. Based on the box art they're really changing up the vibe compared to the mainline games? Which is fine as it was getting pretty formulaic
