Struggling a wee bit with Saturn emulation. Don't want loads but quite fancied getting Exhumed / Powerslave up and running and it seems a bit iffy. Using the Yaba Sanshiro Pro if anyone has any tips. Ooo, I loved exhumed. It was the music. I still have the PC disk version lying around because it had the audio tracks on it. Fuck me, I wonder where that is.

I'm tempted to try that unity Daggerfall version. I know I'll only play it for about an hour and then probably leave it because of rose tinted spectacles, but considering it's free, why the hell not
I might start a new game of eternal darkness actually, it's been a while since I had a crack on that.

Man, I really want to like JSR. The art and character design is ace, and the soundtrack is as strong as the sequel.
But it feels terrible to actually play! You can see exactly why JSRF changed a lot of things. And thank goodness it did.

The Blade Runner remsater is kinda strange, because the retro/pixelated look is much more acceptable these days. If it was released as a new game now, with the original graphics, it'd probably be getting praise for looking cool.
If you're a console owner with no pc, it's probably a harder choice. Unless you can put ScummVM on a tablet or something.

360 is 17 years old which I guess classifies it well into retro territory, right?
Well, I was browsing the Xbox Marketplace for something to spend these reward points on, and I'm not sure when it happened, but Omega Five has been relisted on the marketplace? That's a game I remember downloading the demo for ages ago but I never got around to buying the full game. Some years later when I wanted to go back and pick up some fun shoot em ups for the console, I saw it had been delisted. So if anyone missed out on it the first time around, don't hesitate to pick it up now, especially as it's backwards compatible on every later Xbox console.
And if you haven't heard of it, it's a fun horizontal twin stick shooter by Natsume and Hudson. I recommend that and Strania as a couple of overlooked gems if you enjoy the genre at all.

A few games seem to have b een relisted recently. For example, Sonic 2006. I'm not sure why. Anyway, I'm not sure the 360 counts as retro. Sure it's been discontinued for ages and belongs to two generations ago, but its games are still being sold on the digital marketplace. And unlike the Wii or PS3 or PSP or even 3DS, you can still use a credit card to buy those games, and you don't need a different platform to download them. In the end, it just feels different. The 360 is arguably self-sufficient, even if games are obviously no longer being made. I wonder when they will pull the plug...

store.steampowered.com/app/1919470/Atari_50_The_Anniversary_Celebration/Well then, maybe this could actually be worth my money. Instead of having 150 titles between the oldest platforms (you just know 130 of them would be crap), you have 90 titles among seven platforms, including some newer ones, so hopefully there will be more of a selection. I would like to see some older, less known games for the Atari 800. Some like Mountain King, Castle Hassle, AE, Archon, Lode Runner... but I'm worried that the best titles might be in the hands of other companies, who would not just give up the license willingly. I'm not expecting to see Frogger or Pitfall or anything like that, unfortunately.

Strange that the ST didn't seem to make the cut. It was fairly successful and had a lot of games. Emulation issues maybe?

AmigaForLife Oh yeah, I don't know how anyone thought a computer with no hardware scrolling or sprites was a good idea. But still, you could easily find a few good games to add in the collection. Or maybe just Dungeon Master.

Fallen down a few different retro shaped rabbit holes lately. Got a strong urge to collect the older consoles that I've owned down the years, only ones I'm really missing now is the Gameboy and Mega Drive. So my original boxed NES, SNES and N64 are in the loft, along with a repurchased Gamecube. Don't really see the point in a PS3 or PS4.
Bought mint boxed Wii U a few months ago for 90 quid with a pro controller and some games. All under guise that I'll play some of the younger games that aren't available anywhere with the lad, so Wind Waker HD, the Kirby and Yoshi games. Ended up with a decent little collection.
On holiday last week with nothing else better to do whilst the Mrs had a stint entertaining the kids, bought a mint boxed PS2. Wanted the console itself for ages as I think it's the best looking console of all time. But again, ended up with a growing collection and bit the bullet for good copies of Silent Hill 2 and 3. Picked up some games that I never played first time round like Simpsons Hit and Run, Onimusha, Tekken 5 and a few others. Think I'll end up picking up a number of games as they're so cheap as it'll only be a matter of time until it's impossible to find non-battered copies of games. It seems to be getting that way already. I know you can emulate but I'm an absolute sucker for having the physical version for older games.

Glad I already have the GC stuff I want from back in the day.
I am having an odd problem though, and not sure if anyone here can figure it out bar buying a new cable but what the hey...
Finally dug out my Blaze Ultimate SCART (described specifically as RGB SCART on the box) to attach to my Retrotink 5X for better quality than my old composite SCART but it only works as an input when selected as Comp SCART so still not great, am I missing anything obvious here or did they mislabel the cable?

I think I've got everything I need from the Gamecube. When I started that was in 2015 or 16 and I think I paid 50 quid for Twin Snakes then. Only one I regret not getting is Twilight Princess but ended up getting it for the Wii U anyway.
Wow, you weren't lying! Knackered unboxed consoles for like 50-60 quid! When I got the console it was a like new, boxed Donkey Konga bundle for 50 quid.
I don't think it'll be long before the Wii U gets to that point. Hot consumer advice guys, go get yourselves a Wii U in 2022 😄

Is it coming up in full colour when you select the composite SCART input? It's possible for an RGB cable to do full normal composite as well but usually the composite line is just used for sync so it should be black and white when you do that? Don't forget that not all GCs were RGB compatible especially if it's an NTSC model? It wouldn't surprise me if an RGB cable just did colour composite on an NTSC model.

I have proper peaks and troughs with retro collecting and I'm on a bit of a high now. Just discovered a very well stocked shop a few towns over that isn't going to help my bank balance.

Full colour on composite line and an unmodified UK GC. I hadn't really thought about the RGB cable to do composite too (although I do recall some with switches at some point). If I select RGB input (fully flashed 5X too) I only get sound.

Cable either faulty or mislabelled then I'd say. There are some shitty GC RGB cables about. Let me see if I can find out which one I use.
The 5x is great though isn't it. Just FYI I actually use bob deinterlacing rather than the (excellent) motion adaptive. When combined with scanlines it is a REALLY authentic looking effect - or at least it reminds me of how my CRTs used to handle 480i. Gamecube and PS2 are a good fit for it.

Ah found it right away. I use the "PACKAPUNCH PRO" cable from Retro Gaming Cables, can recommend it.

With it being an actual known brand I ahd higher hopes for it but had never actually used it so it was still sealed too. Not sure if I have an RGB SCART on either of my spare GCs so will heck them out too first but thanks for the link for a reliable cable to go for if no good. As for the 5X, to my shame I haven't really had time to properly play with to and only actually tried the Cube so far (and less fiddling with modes until I could at least get RGB up). At least I have component for my PS2 and Wii when I get around to them (and a definite RGB SCART for my Saturn, not sure about my PS1, but my N64 is SVHS oddly and not sure if the 5X has a port for that...). Think with GC I went for the 1200P option as the 1440P had a weird bright border and didn't look as good

It does have a S-Video input, that's how my PAL N64 is set up too.
I love the 5x. I'm a sucker for CRT effects anyway but the scalar software in there is out of this world. How it achieves such perfect non-integer scaling is absolutely mind blowing.
Don't discount the pre-emphasis filter when you come to experiment, especially for 240p consoles if you have any. It looks odd at first but its a really nice CRT-like picture softening.

I'm glad I kept my dreamcast, ps2, wii and wii u, considering the prices nowadays. Pity I got rid of the gamecube, but the wii handles the games fine, plus I have an official gc controller and nice long extension lead. I often play the gamecube's eternal darkness via the wii, along with regularly playing house of the dead: overkill on the wii itself. Because shooting zombies in the face repeatedly combined with possibly the best 70's funk soundtrack and a guiness book of records entry for the amount of swearing in a video game just never gets old. Some games just need to be played forever
