I'm having a cathartic gaming experience at the moment as I'm finally playing Wind Waker... it released back in late 2002 during probably the worst period of my life on a personal level, as such I never played it at the time (despite it actually arriving in the post, having preordered it before my life started to unravel), and never felt like playing it since due to some irrational mental connection to bad times. Until now! Absolutely loving it, and feel kinda lucky that I have this full 3D Zelda game that I've never played set out in front my me.
Anyone else have cathartic unplayed retro gaming experiences like this?
(I appreciate that Gamecube being retro may be debatable, but it's in its 20th year so we must be getting there).

I am currently playing through Yoshi's island (snes) having never played it before. I adore super Mario world, so not sure why I have never played it.

My Steam library is full of unplayed games, so I'll probably have lots of those experiences... eventually. I have had two of those experiences that stick out to me. First one is finally playing and finishing Baten Kaitos on the gamecube a month ago after buying it on a flea market for 1 euro a year after the launch (I think it was someones mother who likely without consent was dumping games en masse). I tried it but for some reason stopped playing. I looked into my bookshelve saw it was monolith who had created the game and basicly finished it in 2 months and really enjoyed it. Another one is SMT Nocturne. After having reached Hanuman (90% into the game) in the PAL version I experienced a permanent bug in which I could only field the main character basicly making the game impossible. The PAL release was such a shit show of game breaking bugs and freezes I turned to the US version with my elder brother. We basicly got to 75%, got into a argument with one another and barely saw eachother for 3 years. After reconnecting we tried again but thought he had lost the memory card and we both gave up. Only a year and a halve ago I found the memory card fallen behind a bookshelve when my parents were moving and realized this must be that card. I turned on my US PS2 and realized this waa it and called my brother. He was so excited he stayed over for 4 days and we basicly did a marathon for the last quarter of the game and finally finished it.

Maybe. I'm going to try a different SD card but the omens aren't good. It sounds like they're really temperamental. Did you get it sorted? You have probably already seen this but come across this on the retro handheld discord. how to recover from a bricked miyoo mini via firmware update: 1. Grab a brand new SD card (not the one that came with) and format using www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/2. Copy this recovery firmware to the newly formatted SD card (pinned in the Retro Game Handhelds Miyoo Mini channel) drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LCwUtQ8k1UCH-DnEaw3HoCXyCYQXXDIx?usp=sharing3. Do the normal update stuff: take out the battery, put in the new SD card, plug into power. At this point, my system finally resurrected and the update screen popped in. Un-plug the device when the screen changes from the update screen to the charging screen. 4. Remove the SD card, put the battery back in, make sure the device powers on to the recovery firmware. 5. Remove the recovery firmware from the SD card and replace with the newest image, the one you initially were trying to update to. Try and update again (step 3 above) -- this time, it worked for me.

Thanks addy, I haven't had chance to fiddle with it again since the bricking, but I have seen a few posts like this. I've ordered a spare SD and I'm going to give it a go this week. The next step if this doesn't work is an EPROM flasher, apparently (swiftly followed by a yeet into the nearest skip, probably!).

No joy with a new SD. I've got the EPROM flasher now but I need to find time to do that, now. This may go on for a while!

I won't be home until later and be able to faff myself next week. To be honest I have only bought it because I love the form factor and how it looks. It's realistically going to be too uncomfortable for regular play.

I'd have to fire up my Wii U to get it running though which I have somewhere about

Heh went to a Toy Fair at the NEC yesterday and there's also old men who can't shower either! Managed to snag a few N64 bargains so it was worth it.

Also I've got to say the Swift Sail is a godsend in this remake, I'm kinda glad I didn't play it on Gamecube back in the day, the normal sailing is tedious to say the least... I'm sure that's a debate that's been done to death over the years so I'll say no more. The game is magnificent, loving every minute of it!

Had a quick look at the miyoo. It's proper dinky. I love it. Will slap OnionOS on it later and just a small curated selection of games across the 8/16bit babies.

So I ended up ordering a Retroid Pocket 2+ last night because I find the best way to fill the big hole inside me is to buy stuff I won't have time to use.
Is it quite easy to set up? No idea when it's coming mind you.

Yeah, though I hear it’s fiddly if you try and use an SD card. Make sure you get the latest OTA update as it’s much faster going through lists in the Retroid front end which IMO is the best thing about the device - it’s super fast to get into and out of games with it. I’m fine keeping to the internal 32gb, which gives you about 25gb to play with.

I have been holding off playing these until I get my gba this week. I have just finished Metroid: Zero Mission and nearly polished off Yoshi's Island. I'm also messing about on games that are far too expensive to buy. Shizzle like Megaman V and Ninja Five-O
