Well think of it that it was only a small amount and you saw it quickly, so I guess it could have been worse, silver linings and all that .... I think some (many) of us would have admitted to falling for the odd thing over the years (not suggesting you have) but the bastards are so darn devious it's no wonder more of us don't get caught out more often. God help getting older and losing the plot FFS! You're absolutely right, older people definitely are more vulnerable to this, I've heard plenty of stories from people around me proving just that and it goes far beyond credit card scams, these assholes certainly don't lack in imagination. And yeah, thankfully I do check my bank app every single day and it could have been much worse.

Long lie, read sunday papers with copious coffee, went to the gym, went into town and bought a jacket, then had a bunch of tapas for dinner to celebrate/commiserate with the lad for the end of his higher prelims.
Result.

Had a shit day, only one day off this weekend and it's just disappeared. A 45 minute trip ending up taking 2hrs 30 mins due to the roads being shite and our council couldn't plan anything to save their lives.
Back to work tomorrow for the busiest day of the week and I'm the only one in. Got my review on Tuesday and I wrote some quite harsh comments about the way the company does things.
Not feeling ready for next week haha.

Same as yesterday, sat at home with a stinking cold watching the x files and keeping my dog company after his recent neuter surgery.

Got up and cleaned the kitchen after the youngest destroyed it cooking bacon and beans, played a bit of TLOU2, then did some washing and some hoovering and then off to IKEA to buy the eldest a mirror and some other bits, home to do lunch for everyone then down the skatepark with the youngest, home to do dinners for the boys and sip a few rums, photocopies and scanning bits and bobs for Mrs Mercury then finally get to eat after getting the youngest in to bed, now for a bit more TLOU2 if I can keep my eyes open, quite a nice day as it goes.

It was the first morning in a couple of weeks that we haven't been dog sitting, so didn't have the usual bleary eyed walk down the garden in my jammies and actually got a half decent lie in.
Popped into town and used up a Christmas present voucher for the local Turkish barber and got the works done, which was well needed after 6ish weeks. The guy was absolutely fucking awful at the traditional shave part of it, though. I could've done a better job with less irritation afterwards using a disposable razor from the pound shop.
Then a beastly pub lunch and collapse on the couch for an afternoon of Persona 3. Stuck a veggie stew with butterbeans on in the slow cooker, watched a few episodes of stuff and now the Monday dread is starting to settle in.

My partner hates her job. I’m bored and frustrated at mine. We a mid-30s couple renting in Bristol. Do we just pack up and move somewhere else? Those are my lunch break thoughts.

A friend of a friend, who I'm told is terrible with money, has just had a redundancy payout but has been rehired by the same place as it has new owners.
Anyway, that's not the bit I'm interested in, the part that got me is that he's using his redundancy money to open up a bubble tea cafe in our shitty little town. So he's going to be renting a unit for £800pcm, his wife is going to run it but apparently they'll only have to open for 5 hours a day. This is the joy of getting all this info second hand.
My first thought is he's a bloody idiot, but there is a part of me that's pretty jealous of him just going for it. I mean I run a pretty successful venture myself but it's not wholly my own like that would be. Anyway, what day is it??

It's 水曜日 I guess they'd only need to sell about 20 a day to break even on the rent. Assuming they get regular trade, rather than only at weekends. Is bubble tea a big thing in the UK right now? We had a big bubble tea bubble (heh) about 15 years ago, and then after a couple of years they all disappeared. Then we had another bubble just before the pandemic, though they've mostly gone now.

There is a bubble tea business that only opens 6 months a year. Weirdly, it just pops up in different places each time. How they can afford to move and redecorate every time is beyond me. There is a large number of Chinese students on the area though, so they probably do make great money. It’s always rammed.

Made the best purchase ever today (new power washer) and played real life Power Washer Simulator for three hours! Balcony, steps, paving, driveway and car are all now sparkling. A very mindful few hours of listening to music on my headphones and zoning out whilst power washing!!!

My wife got me a blacksmithing day course as a gift at Christmas and tomorrow is the day I booked it, so I'm going to be making some shit out of metal and am very excited. She has also been telling me for ages to take a night away for myself (probably feeling sorry for me due to my recent stress leave trauma), so tonight that's what I'm doing.
The forge I'm doing the course at has accomodation (bell tents and cabins) but I decided to splurge on their luxury yurt. Fucking hell this place is beautiful. I got here a few hours ago, had a wander around their property (lake, fields etc), made some dinner and had a couple of drinks, and then relaxed in the hot tub for an hour (went out when there was a break in the rain but then it poured down for about 30 minutes, but it was really nice floating about a hot tub in the rain). Super relaxed now, and going to watch a movie on the laptop with another drink, and then get a night of sleep before I bash the shit out of some molten metal in the morning. Lovely.

Did a blacksmithing day recently and it was great fun. Much harder than I thought it would be and 1000x different ways to burn yourself.
That bottom knife is very good and extra like the link to an image uploader.

Took the day off today to take advantage of the national holiday yesterday so have gone down to Barcelona for the night and am mostly spending my time in the Gothic Quarter. For one it's nice to see an horizon for once and two it's really nice to get some culture in. Just had a nice lunch and enjoying a rare cigarette because I've definitely quit. Definitely. One thing, I always forget how many Americans there are actually living here.

Ah, miss the days of a fag with my first pint. Was always my fave one.
Finished work for the day today so gone to the pub next door for some pints and food while I wait for my daughters school to finish. Even some glimpses of sun coming through.

Absolutely fantastic day forging, it's a lot harder than I thought it would be, lots of technical work alongside hammering the shit out of metal 😆
Only one near burn, my hands will have blisters tomorrow from all the bellow pumping and hammering, and I'm blowing black out of my nose, but that was a day's work I won't forget in a hurry. Learnt lots of techniques whilst making a bottle opener and a candle holder (I'll upload pics later on) and I've certainly got the bug to do more. There's another forge nearer to me that has member days, so I'm seriously considering looking into that.

A tattooist I’ve had stuff from before had a last minute cancellation so I stuck in an early finish at work and treated myself to an afternoon of therapeutic poking.

I’ve been writing about Blue Bloods. The show that’s gone for 14 seasons and yet I’ve never met a single person who watches it. It’s this generation’s JAG. But good for SEO stuff, apparently.
So, Tom Selleck, eh? What a dish.

Can you imagine Tom Selleck and Ron Swanson getting their taches all knitted up together? Well you don't have to imagine it now
