Disney = Consumerism to the Nth + the ultimate child/family monetary extraction algorithm
That said they are very good at most of what they do… don’t mess with the Mouse!

I hate Disney with a passion. For some reason people become blind to the blatant price gouging, cynical cash grab tactics once they pass through the gates. My better half love Disney though. It's her happy place, so me spending all day moping and complaining when we were there didn't go over well. Something about ruining the magic. =) So now I've learned to grin and bear it, ignore the ridiculous prices and just try to enjoy the moment, so I don't ruin it for them. #soulmates pleated-jeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/funny-pictures-6-3-24-26.jpg

We've got 2 weeks at Disneyland Florida booked in August with the 2 kids (9 and 7). You what now!? 8-o I balked at the cost of ging for 1 day with the 4 of us. I thought my girlfriend was mental when she suggested we go for the weekend and stay in a Disney hotel for 1 or 2 nights. In the end, we settled on a Disney affiliated hotel for 1 night. 2 weeks in Florida with a family of 4? Wow. Better mentally block out the thought of the cost and just try to enjoy it or you'll ruin the most expensive vacation of your lives for everyone.:) You'll still be down thousands but everyone will be miserable on top of it.

All this talk of Disney, even if I had the money I'd sooner staple my head to the floor.

Our neighbours go to them multiple times a year. They've been to Disney Paris, Florida and then a couple of weeks in Japan where they did Universal Studios within the past year. Rinse and repeat.
Yeah I'm a more than a bit jealous of their disposable income, but fucking hell at least find something better to piss it away on!

As they say, don't knock it till you've tried it imo! I'm a complete convert. Although i don't think I could go that often - every 2/3/4 years, maybe.

No that's Orlando with flights. Cheapest on the official site for 2 random weeks in August was £6k for the cheapest hotel. Plus £2k park tickets, so £4.5k all in looks bargainous. Sign me up!

Doug's was close with the first guess, current tally is £8.5k.
That's 2 weeks in the Disney Movie hotel, park tickets, dining/food package and (not even direct) flights from Heathrow. Posher hotels and direct flights increased the cost into proper silly territory, or should I say *sillier* territory, as lets be honest it's all pretty mental anyway.
Could feel my arsehole puckering just typing that.

Possibly a bit boring this one sorry but we were offered some properly nice solid wood oak furniture from my partner’s folks last week and we decided to use it to spruce up the living area including a re-design. It’s taken a week and a half but we have now removed the tatty 20 year old threadbare sofas and got a big f*ck off IKEA one with a chaise - it’s the comfiest thing ever and we both keep falling asleep on it.
55 in telly which was on a corner stand has been replaced by a new 65 with a banging new soundbar and sub. All neatly mounted at a reasonable eye level, and have also upgraded the hi fi stuff by purchasing some stands for the speakers instead of having them on a unit with the turntable. Finally wired it up today and it sounds BRILLIANT at the proper height - and with much more spread horizontally between the speakers the separation and panning etc can be really appreciated. In fact the dog thought there was an intruder when I was playing Electric Ladyland and all the panning effects and the chatter from the hangers on in the studio were playing 😂.
As an added bonus we’ve now got the 55 up in our room which is an upgrade there too, and the new room layout has let me finally bring my Kallax with all our records downstairs into the room where we play them. Again, that being moved now means I have space in the box room to better display all my Warhammer and nerd stuff, so all these upgrades are working in little chain reactions to make the house cooler and better appointed throughout.
The room now looks like it has been designed instead of thrown together over time on the cheap, and it’s been worth the exhaustion it’s caused. Even little bits like rearranging all the plug sockets to make sense and not be a bird’s nest. Am happy, but aside from a bit of telly in the evenings have had little time for much else so am glad it’s almost done.

With Disney in Orlando you’re better off renting a villa in Kissimmee for a couple of weeks, getting an hire care and making the 10 minute drive to the parks.

Trampoline rebuilding completed today, what a bloody nightmare, fitting bolts where the manufacturers had fitted piddly self tapers, fitting bolts where the existing ones were so poor quality they'd just rounded and weren't doing anything, I'm sure they don't make drill bits like they used to, a general overhaul included straightening the collapsed net structure thingy and re-joining several net structure thingy's the dickheads had managed to snap etc, nearly put my back out balancing on the the bloody thing trying to stick the twisted bastardised net back up, because this was an overhaul meant the thing had to be re-erected (stoppit) in the wrong order.

there'll be some energetic bouncing in the mercury household tonight now that freddie's got it up
(nerd note re drill bits: i know what you mean! assuming you've been drilling out steel tubing, I've killed loads of hss drill bits on steel lately, tempted to crowbar open the wallet to fund some cobalt bits)

Nah, if you’re just doing Disney it’s cheaper/as cheap/less hassle to stay in one of the cheaper hotels and get a lyft anywhere off campus. Car hire isn’t cheap anymore and the shuttle buses from the hotels are a god send when you’re wiped out.
