Avatar 2 trailer is coming out with Dr. Strange 2 in cinemas. Not going to be released online but that's probably going to be timed.
Time for James Cameron to have yet another film in the top 5 biggest of all time.

My bold prediction is that it will just do 'ok'.

Avatar succeeded on the strength of its visuals. And I'm sure the new ones will be similarly pretty. But basically every big budget movie has great graphics these days, so I don't know what Cameron could do to really blow me away.
Maybe write a memorable story.

It's the technology for underwater stuff that he's going to be pushing isn't it?

"Underwater motion capture" doesn't exactly make me want to rush out and buy tickets for a midnight screening.

And it shouldn't. They aren't advertising it to do so, though there will plenty of info about it as we near release. It's new tech that they've developed. It doesn't matter to the audience how the sausage is made, just how it tastes. We'll see what it does when the trailers start landing.

I don't have a massive interest in returning to Pandora (as far as stories called "Avatar" go, I'm more excited by the Last Airbender live-action series), but I have a feeling this will surprise everyone by going bananas. Probably won't top the first film, but I think we're looking at the biggest film of the year again.

It's at the right time for escapism again, similar to bright Technicolour musicals in the 1930s.
Avatar was in the right place for post financial crash escapism, same thing again.

It made a lot from inflated 3D ticket prices which, predictably enthusiasm for has died.

The fact that The Northman is a viking movie starring Alexander Skarsgard, but it isn't an Erik Northman viking vampire prequel makes me sad.

Hi Rory, it's your agent Jane Plough. I've got you a plum gig, it's a film where you play every conceivable male character. Yes, including creepy Aphex Twin kids and you get to wear loads of shit wigs. Oh yes, to have hair again!

Still less creepy looking than Travolta in that OJ series.

I’m guessing they were going to make it, without the superfluous Bond links, then the pandemic happened.

Benedetta and The Northman are out this Friday.
I really didn't like Robert Eggers's previous films but I may love this one. Or I may see Benedetta twice!
