In terms of sheer professionalism and commitment to his movies, it's hard to think of anyone better than Tom Cruise. That knife to the eyeball scene still makes me squirm.
It's hard to imagine anyone else being able to do stunts to this level, whenever Cruise retires. Not because they lack the ability or anything, but because insurance.
Cruise can do it because he has enough money to executive produce, and because he's basically a professional stuntman at this point. But if you're a big Hollywood person and you've got the choice between your star doing something very dangerous irl, and just doing it in CG, you're probably going to pick the CG.

I'm intrigued by Oppenheimer. It's based on the American Prometheus biography, which was pretty great. Can't see the film condensing everything down though, without it becoming messy.
The film seems to be focusing on the Manhattan Project, understandably, but the most engaging part of the book was the security hearing in the years after the project was completed.
Nolan is very much a big-idea and style-over-substance guy so it'll be interesting to see how he handles something with depth.

I've no idea how the film will turn out but I just hope this trailer gets played instead of the countdown one in future, I must have seen that a few dozen times now and I fucking hate it.

I’d disagree that he’s all style over substance, I think of people like Snyder for that. His substance may not always be great but there’s a strong attempt at it there, and sometimes achieves.

ReviewerIt's why I said style over substance *and* big idea over substance. Most of his films have big concepts and themes, but usually at the expense of characters and narrative. Whilst his work is usually more interesting than Bay or Snyder, I don't think his films actually explore his big ideas or themes in all that much detail or nuance.

Memento and Insomnia were fucking quality with plenty of substance - wish he'd go back to a less bombastic style of film.

I'll always defend Interstellar.
I did watch it while up with my newborn daughter at the time. Absolutely ugly cried at the end.

Cruise doing that stuff is bonkers, also insane is that he's 60 now.

That is incredible. When him and Tarantino go it will really be the end of old Hollywood.

It's really like, a deep and meaningful name, because it can refer to both the aeroplane and a flat, 2-dimensional surface, which is an accurate description of the characterisation.

I hadn’t heard of this until the algorithm presented me an interview with the director today. Looks good though.

Sadly Gladiator 2 isn't based on the Nick Cave script.

So if Avatar is still in cinemas, you could do a double bill of 3D James Cameron movies featuring Kate Winslet?

Someone else highlighted that Kate has two different hairstyles in that poster and it’s all I can see.

Thats so strange.
When the nude scene happens she'll probably have a foot for a tit.
