Is this before or after you made poor Billy wade in and get mulched by Golems Uly, hmm?
Yeah. I've got my eye on you.

Gave the spear a quick go and it's pretty awesome.

It was contemporaneous, Wunty! I love Billy's can-do attitude, but just because I was dumb enough to get plucked off the Golem's head and squished between his big old hands, he was in no way obliged to follow suit

I threw someone's pawn off a cliff earlier as he was annoying me.
Speaking of falling off of cliffs, you stay away from the spear quaddy as it's lunge move will get you in bother.

The spear is pretty jarring after getting archery up to level 7. I'm sure it's great if you're coming from another melee class, but it'll take some serious adjustment for me. Think I'll finish off archery and then switch back to it.
The different gear for each vocation gets a bit messy if you've unlocked multiple ones. I made the mistake of paying to unlock them all in one go, thinking that I'd just smoothly switch between them when I felt like changing things up. I was so over-encumbered with gear when I left the menu that I could barely walk.

Haha I did the same.
I came from archery too, and I noticed that I can kill ogres and cyclopses in about half the time with just the base spear and no extra abilities unlocked. Have now got the pick up enemy and throw them force power so noone near a cliff is safe.

This is stupidly addictive. Just found a brilliant wee place that lead to something I really didn’t expect and ultimately, most importantly, I now have trousers.

Fucking hell Jambo, how many hours are you in. I've been smashing it and I'm nowhere near ready to go to another area.
I'm about level 23 I think.

I need to get adding you all on PSN just so I can take your pawns out for a lovely jaunt (or cliff throw).

I don't think I've put that much into it really, I only properly got my teeth into on Saturday and yeah I think I just smashed it. The game just keeps levelling me up really quickly. Is that normal? I'm LV 30 now, I think I reached the second area at level 28.

Oh and I've finally twigged that the exclamation marks are for when a Pawn notices something of interest. Which is everything and nothing at the same time, something to collect, to read, materials.

Only one Xbox user in mine I have 5 EG users in mine. Definitely a serious step down from the massive choice on og DD on 360. Everyone must be on PS5 these days!

Without spoiling anything, when the game gives you a tutorial make sure you read it.
You can thank me later.

I think I got a bit held up for a while when I didn't chat to the chap in the capital enough which left me 4 quests untaken for ages. Lost quite a bit of time just wandering about and lost best part of an hour when a pawn said "oh I know where that is" and I followed him. In a huge lap of my uncovered map from what was essentially 6 on the clock all the way to 3 the long way.
He will be getting thrown off a cliff for that.

Finally made it to the capital. On the way there, had to fight an orge. Took him down easily, but immediately afterwards, a pawn forced a conversation offering his services. There wasn’t a cliff nearby, but he got lifted and thrown for his troubles. Also, I’m playing on Xbox too. There are three of us!

While I still think the microtransactions suck, the internet outrage on the subject has definitely been overblown - I already have most of the stuff you can buy, after 11-12 hours' worth of playing, and in no way have I felt that the game was badgering me to open my wallet.
I also feel that Capcom deserves a lot of credit for allowing such a weird game to exist in the AAA space to begin with. So many rough edges from the original could've been smoothed off in the name of mainstream acceptance, turning the sequel into Just Another Fantasy RPG, but they haven't done so - this is 100% Dragon's Dogma, batshit craziness and all, and I couldn't be happier about that.

Would quite like some more ferrystones just to save a bit of backtracking sometimes but it's not a huge issue.

Am I right in saying only one saved possible and that is locked by a mtx?
I know there is quite a bit of rage about some of the mtx but not read too much in to it.

Yeah, it’s one save period. First game was the same. Aren’t MTX only rift crystals? Like how in DMC it’s only red orbs, or only gold on RE? This is nothing new for Capcom, it’s just a shortcut to leveling up, not gated content.

wunty I do wonder whether poor Billy's PTSD was caused by my assless chaps, as much as (if not more than) the Golem we encountered. There's a definite pattern emerging here: Pawn: We must put out the flames at once! Me: Is Billy on fire again? Billy: 'Tis quite a view from up here. Me: Where are you? Oh, of course - on the creature's head. How silly of me. Pawn: One of our members is poisoned! Me: Lemme guess... I do love the mad bastard, though. We were doing an escort quest for the ox-cart guy in the capital, and I was rudely awakened from my slumber by the sound of a Cyclops attacking the convoy; we'd almost killed it when a fucking Griffin appeared, adding a few barrels of napalm to what was once a cozy campfire.
With the former dead, we turned our attention to the latter, and I climbed onto the beast's back with the intention of stabbing it with my trusty dual daggers... ... Only to find myself airborne, as the monster flapped its great wings and took to the skies! Momentarily awestruck by what was unfolding, I panned the camera around to find none other than Billy, standing a mere two feet away - he had followed my lead by climbing onto the Griffin's body, like the true bro he is, and his loyalty had been poorly rewarded.
He gave me a gormless look and immediately fell off as we were flying over a river, but A+ for effort.

This is nothing new for Capcom, it’s just a shortcut to leveling up, not gated content. I think it's that plus the deluxe edition content. I think the issue has been more from PC players as that's what's shown on the steam page with all the MTX content but it's also many people reading misinformation without playing the game and just joining in for Reddit likes. Again it's not great that they do but the MTX is only visible if you press the PS/Xbox store option on the title screen. I think the "outrage" is down to a new audience unfamiliar with the franchise and the admittedly shocking performance. If the performance was rock solid you wouldn't hear a peep just like there wasn't this vitriol when MTX were in...every Capcom game since the OG Dragon's Dogma game.

I play the steam version and haven't seen any of this, I just click play and go straight into the game. The mtx are shitty but they aren't pushed in your face like they are in ubi games for example.

What are the micro transactions for? Presumably shit like gold or RC or wakestones / ferry stones? Don’t see how you would ever actually need that. I’ve got about 8 wakestones, 5 or 6 ferrystones, don’t ever want for gold and rift coins. So much so I’m wasting it on haircuts and trying to make my arisen not look like she’s shit herself.

I think the micros are primarily for Portcrystals, Wakestones, and Rift Crystals. All easily earned from playing the game for which you've already paid sixty bucks, without the need to spend anything more on top of that.
There are a few other items involved - a particular camping set, for instance, and a character editor - but they can all be bought for in-game currency, once you find the merchant that has them.
The misinformation going around about having to pay to for X, Y, and Z is just the usual social media hyperbole.
