You might have already got better stuff - but I remember the DLC equipment being useful for quite a while. There's multiple bits of kit too - stuff for a fighter, strider or a mage, so you can kit out your pawn too.
The eternal ferrystone is also probably the most useful item in the game as well.

How does the eternal ferrystone work?

If you use it in the wild on its own, it fast travels you to Gran Soren.
Later on, you'll find things called Port Crystals. Can't remember how many - but say about 3-4. Anyway, when you're out and about and find a place that you might want to go back to later, you can put a port crystal on the ground, and it'll stay there.
When you then bugger off somewhere else and want to go back to the port crystal, use the eternal ferrystone again, and this time, you'll have a choice of where to go - either Gran Soren as normal, but also wherever you've put any port crystals down.
So it's a good idea to travel about first, work out where you're going to want to come back to (you'll understand this later - the quests may send you to places you've already been to - this is a game where you come across places and nothing is happening, but later, the quests will trigger things where those places have events going on), and strategically place your port crystals so it's easier to traverse everywhere.

I'd definitely put one "up north", so to speak. Maybe north-east. You'll understand when you get there.
You know those 3 ogres you killed in that passageway earlier? Have you gone back to that passageway since? It will have changed if you cleared it out and that passageway is a kind of link between areas. That's not a bad spot for a port crystal, but to be fair, it's not that far from Gran Soren. But, if you go through the passageway, it opens up another area. That's not a bad spot either.
You'll suss it.

quadfather Ah you know what, I found a Port Crystal as well, possibly in that passageway with the ogres (that now has nice people in it, and a merchant, so that's pretty cool). So I know I've definitely got one. Haven't had chance to get back on to finish following the shifty man, but when I do I'm totally checking my storage.

Ah cool, so you've cleared the passageway. That's good as you'll need to use that now and again to get to other places. That mine passageway isn't that far from Gran Soren - from memory, I think if you leave the front gate of Gran Soren, go right, kill a few bellend bandits, go past the archway and then take a left, it's a quick jog up there and then left again. Probably only takes 5 minutes to get there. So maybe not the best use for a port crystal. But on the other side, well, that's a different story Have you, er, gone "up north" yet, by the way? Are you giving all the heavy stuff to your pawn? I don't know what playing a fighter is like, but for a strider, I need to be really fast, so I have to keep it on "very light" at all times. It does make a difference when you're fighting.

My pawn is a ranger so trying to keep her light as well. I'm just kind of shoving everything on me just now, but I could probably lighten the load a bit. I'm "average" at the moment and getting a bit sluggish.
Haven't been up north, only been west so far with that shadow keep mission but I'll see what else is waiting for me once I've tailed this prick.

Ah right. Yeah, it does slow you down a bit. You can always distribute everything to your other pawns I suppose. Just have to remember to grab everything before you release them. I let all my pawns pick everything up themselves and then spend 2 minutes back in gran soren taking it all off them for storage/selling etc. Saves pissing about outside.
Have you actually spotted this person you're following? I'm trying to think which quest it is.

Yeah he's near the castle in gran soren. Some shifty guy in the market told me to be on the lookout for him. I don't actually know what's going on but that's nothing new.

Ahh, I know the one. Yes, that quest is all inside Gran Soren. Well, it is if it's called Chasing Shadows.

Rings a bell. That must be it. I was being really stealthy lumbering after him with my lantern on and three grown up children continuously monologuing about everything they come across.

Haha yeah, stealth missions are hilarious when you have bumbling buffoons everywhere shouting at the top of their voices You can tell your main pawn to be quieter or more vocal on that chair in the Inn, by the way. Have you had the "Tis a troubling foe!" as they get flung off a cliff yet? Always a chortle, that one.

Ha ha not yet but I have heard it a few times. I had a fight with an ogre on top of some battlements at one point and they kept all getting chucked over the sides. It was highly amusing.

Haha, excellent. It's one of those games that makes me genuinely smile or laugh out loud, because of the amount of variations the fights can go. Sometimes, you muck it all up and it's a complete disaster, and other times you just barely turn the tide, but all the fighting in general is just so satisfying.
You've *got* to experience popping someone in the eye with an arrow and watch as they scream to their death off a cliff face. It's practically a bucket list requirement.

Yeah got to say the combat is brilliant, especially when it all kicks off and you end up climbing up the legs of some huge fucker whistt your pawns are fighting all the little guys around you.

Yeah, I don't know what makes it click, but it definitely works. I think it's just the general chaos, size of monsters, the speed of it, comedy lines, cliffs and sound effects.
Bah, I've got a boring meeting in 20 minutes, otherwise I'd stick it on

I love these pawns. They make the game.
Standing in the market square in Gran Soren: *loud splashing noise* "I'm drenched!" I turn to see that my pawn has just launched herself into the fountain.
The fact that every time I run to a chest, they all sprint after me and crowd around me, most of the time prohibiting me from opening it, even if I do open it, one of them grabs it first "This looks interesting". I KNOW it looks interesting you fucking idiot that's why I wanted it!
"Where does this path go." "This path goes left" Thanks for that useful exchange between yourselves guys. Got my bearings now.
And this nugget of wisdom: "Even in great numbers a weakling is a weakling still!" Only to then say: "Strength in numbers arisen"
I love these stupid bastards so much.

That sounds like something a pawn would say...

The path splits here. We'd best be doubly sure of our destination

I was today years old when I found out Goblins are equally weak to ice, holy & lightning as they are to fire. Faith in my pawns is shot to pieces.

Wunty, are you still playing this?
I've got right back into it again. About level 20 now and nearly got strider to full vocation rank and then I'm going to swap for those juicy ranger bow skills.
I did a questline differently this time. When Mason told me to do "whatever I wanted" with the salvation guy that is begging not to be killed after you storm the place, this time I let him live. And Mason wasn't impressed and said our ties are now finished. That's interesting - I wonder how that's going to pan out.

Yes indeed! But not over the last few days.
Ahhh, see I let that guy live and yeah, Mason wasn't too happy!

Is the Berserk armour still in the game ? Stuck on an ESO playthrough from last week in the background (because this keeps getting bumped grrr), and remembered running a Guts/Griffith/Casca party for a while, as was the fashion....
Only saw the Berserk films much later. Little did I know.

I can't remember how it ended up - I know that the PC version of dark arisen was gimped somehow and they got removed for the licencing issue, but I'm not sure on console tbh. I could load it up and go check in the quarry if whatshisface is selling them I guess. Cost too fucking much anyway! If someone wants to gift me a few million gold, that might help

Seems they were removed for all the later versions, according to a fan wiki. Boo.

Great game this is. I’ve started playing as a result of this thread. Picked it up on PS4 a week ago and am really enjoying it.
The combat is great fun and the class system really enourages experimentation.
I love how the nights are proper dark and intimidating. You can find yourself in some hilarious scrapes if you find yourself far from base with the sun going down and supplies dwindling. Trying to find my way through the Witchwood with just a dim lantern having wasted daylight pottering around outside felt like a real adventure.
I’m not sure how i’m supposed to get many rift coins thou, and the cost of some pawns seems huge compared to the rate i’ve aquired rc at so far.

It is top fun isn't it Yeah, dark in this is *really* dark isn't it! I ran out of oil last night inside god knows where and got attacked by a griffin which was absolutely chaotic fun. It get's better later on and introduces stuff that only comes out at night etc. Regarding rift crystals, you will eventually start getting a fair bit, but the best way if you're after pawns is to grab them off people in your friends list as that's zero cost. Or just ping them a friend request stating what it's for, and they normally accept anyway. The price goes up as their pawn's level goes up - it's to stop a level 1 player hiring a level 250 pawn and breezing through it. Though if you have anyone in your friends list with a level 250 pawn, then it's no problem and you can breeze it if you want. By the time you're at that level, you'll have billions of rift crystals anyway. Add me if you want (quaddy456) and you can hire my pawn if you want. He's only level 19/20, and he's a mage that I've customised to buff first, attack second, and heal after every encounter (if it's required). May or may not be useful.
