For anyone not happy with their appearance the bloke in the rift chamber in the city sells the makeover books, can't remember how much for though. Oh, blimey... I found the hairdresser and baulked at her prices. Didn't realise there were more options. Some of the side quests are a bit on the vague side, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as they push you to explore. The letter delivery one for the ox wagon guy was a ballache to find. Now I'm out in the wilderness looking for a boy who's been nabbed by wolves. Feels like I'm missing an obvious toggle to display NPC names without talking to them

I don’t think I’m happy with the archer either. I think I’ll swap when I get a chance.

Yeah, I'm not totally sold on the archer. Tempted to stick with it until it's max level (on 4 or 5 at the moment), as I've spafffed all of my money and mats on a nice bow.
Mage is definitely working well for my pawn, though. Lightning from above and flame empowerment seem like great picks.
For all of the noise about it, I haven't even seen a single MTX in the game itself. Are they just in the Xbox/PSN stores or am I missing something I should be totally outraged about?

I was tempted to look at mage, but that might be better left to a pawn. Thief is tempting me.

Thief has an ability called ensnare which is supposed to be amazing.

I do miss the melee but ultimately I think I’ll keep with the archer. Tis good fun and I like being able to shoot aught and run away.

I’m a fighter with a mage pawn, but once we max our native classes we’re swapping and both becoming fighter mages. Thiefs and rangers are easy to fill with pawns.
Also I saw the OutsideXbox Official pawns in the list, and I threw Andy Corazon off a cliff.

Man, had a good session this morning clearing out a goblin cave, had to hang back and let the pawns scrap it out. Fire, boulders, goblins flying everywhere. Carnage. Tense nighttime search for campsite with sliver of health afterwards.
My fighter pawn, Duncan is extremely tough. Pretty happy with thief, mage, fighter, archer combo.

I think it’s the controls I don’t like for the archer. Having square as quick fire isn’t really working for me. Maybe I’ll wait for a couple of upgrades to see if it clicks.

I believe it's accessed from the title screen which takes you to the PSN store. So yes, a lot to get absolutely outraged about.

How do you do that then? I’ve just been using square and R1. I think that’s all I have right now

This thread in conjunction with a stream I watched earlier has made me want this game so fucking badly but I know I'll never get close to finishing it. I look forward to reading more of your adventures.

It’s okay to never finish it. I never finished the first game or Skyrim tbh. It’s all about exploration and adventure.
Get it when you can afford to, x.

Yeah, same for the original. I had some fun with it but drifted away.
Definitely a game that'll benefit from a few patches though, so no harm in waiting for it to drop in price.

Am I being stupid or is there no way to lock on to targets?

You're not being stupid no. I believe you'll be able to with Magick Archer though once you unlock that vocation.
Edit, no you'll be able to lock on with some abilities, but not a standard lock on.

Think it’s our conditioning. It feels odd coming from other rpgs and soukslikes etc. I’m kind of approaching it differently now and it’s really clicking. Bloody hell it’s addictive. Just popped on for half an hour and don’t want to come off. Hmm. Get on the ox cart or not.

I think you are right Wunty it requires a different approach to what I am used to. It’s also a bit goofy and silly which is a change from the souls type RPGs I’ve become accustomed to. Seems like it’s more of a go with the flow type game than structured planned approach a la souls.

Fair enough.
I'm playing as a mage, and the ranged attacks automatically act as homing missiles, so I can see that it's be a bit redundant. It does have the effect of making the combat feel less involving and more distant. It makes it fiddly if you want to concentrate your attacks, and you're very much at the whim of the pawn AI if more than a single enemy attacks.
It seems to be part of the design, and makes it all a bit more chaotic rather than strategic.

Last night I was exploring in a pretty difficult area, night falls, and I got in a fight with some kind of flying lych...fought through the entire night, used my only wakestone, all my pawns on a sliver of health. As the sun comes up the bad guy is on the verge of death... and despawns.
Fucking aaaaargh.
EDIT: Nearly forgot, as we staggered towards a nearby campsite, heard a roar, and a Griffin landed right on it. Noped right out of there. I think this might be the only action rpg where you look at an enemy and think "fuck that".

Archer is quite engaging combat wise as you have to aim for almost everything. It's a bit like playing a third person shooter. I don't even really use the quick attack.

This is great, but I am a bit more bothered by the performance than I thought I’d be - it feels sluggish and unresponsive (PS5). Won’t keep me from playing it, mind - I am a fighter/warrior, but I would imagine archer doesn’t feel good?

No idea as I'm on pc, lowest framerate so far has been 60 but I just hit the capital so will see what happens. Generally sits over 100 in the open world though which is the bit that matters.

It’s less about souls like combat and more about just getting stuck in and seeing what happens. I jumped off a rock and shot a goblin in the face mid leap to land and be congratulated by all my pawns.
