Rescued Ian’s brother and called it a night. Small stuff so far. Great fun.

I kind of wish I’d gone thief or mage. Hopefully the archer will come into its own when unlock some more skills. I’ll keep an eye out for your pawn quad. I think I saw Wunty’s in there but I didn’t need another fighter

Did you see Billy? Shame on you for not picking him!
Actually it’s for the best. He’s an idiot.

I felt bad for not picking poor billy. My pawn is a fighter too and I was looking to see all the different classes. Definitely next time.
If you want another fighter yourself, Wodewick is quite amusing. Also most likely an idiot, but too early to be sure.

Yeah I know what you mean. Good to have a mix of classes. I will keep an eye out for Wodewick though. Take him out for a spin.

He’s got a stupid voice not in keeping with his appearance. But it kind of works somehow.

My pawn doesn't like bats. You can tell by the way she summons lightning bolts inside a cave and obliterates the entire screen every time she sees one.

Some of the bigger monster fights are pure Benny Hill ridiculousness I must say. It's got this kind of endearing charm to it I must say. Liking it a lot so far.

Also playing as an archer and quite enjoying that especially some of the skills you can get.

This is a bit good. Few hours on it, mostly little quests, but now on my way to the capital. Got distracted by a cave, which turned into a massive cave system full of loads of lizard creatures, slime and then a big ass creature with three health bars (not going to say what). Got destroyed by the big bad and promptly legged it upon the reload.
Anybody using the unique pawns instead of player generated ones? They're free until level 10 and have been aiding me greatly. Also don't make the mistake I made and think that sorcerers have heals, they don't.

I think, from what I've seen so far, it's like the original in that mages are the only healers. Finding out as I type this

A few random thoughts after three hours or so, at least one of which was spent 'perfecting' my characters:
- Man, I suck at character creation - my Arisen is permanently slack-jawed, while my Pawn looks (and sounds) like a Cockney fishwife. I would've been better off going with my initial instinct, which was to set all the sliders to 69 (while giggling furiously, of course) and let the chips fall where they may.
- The combat is as bonkers as ever. Upon encountering the Medusa-esque creature in the opening scene, my first course of action was to grab a random passerby, sling him over my shoulder in a fireman's lift, then chuck the poor bugger headlong into the serpentine beast. (In my defence, this was an accident - I was trying figure out the control scheme.)
- I'm a bit disappointed with the Archer class, with particular reference to the controls. In DD1, you could pick a control scheme that allowed you to use L2 to aim and R2 to fire, as with any third-person shooter; unless I'm missing something (always a possibility), you can't do that in DD2. Instead, you're left using Square to quickfire and R1 for a precision shot, which I don't like.
- However, I'm having a much better time since I changed my vocation to Thief. Dual daggers + a few unlockable skills = fun hack and slash combat, plus I now have a reason to climb up large enemies Shadow of the Colossus-style.
- Pawns seem to be obsessed with ladders now - they're like Push Square commenters playing the Stellar Blade demo (zing!).
- Speaking of which, I love the fact that holding the sprint button while going up ladders results in a sped-up climbing animation, a la Dark Souls II.
- Overall, the game really does feel like a do-over of the original... which is no bad thing, in this case. It maintains the charm and weirdness of DD1 while simultaneously giving the game a modern (-ish) makeover - a very clever trick indeed.

Also. This is fucking fantastic. I've only just scratched the surface, but I've noticed that I'm starting to smile more as I keep playing it.
It's like the first one on steroids

This is one of the few things I'm missing from the original, thus far - the Strider and Ranger vocations in DD1 both allowed the use of a bow and dual daggers. It's a shame to have to choose... unless an advanced vocation, allowing both, will open up later on? Hmm.
Thief is a lot of fun, if you fancy a change of pace I swapped vocations at the first inn I found.

Ulythium I'm pretty sure you can change the control, saw a review on youtube where they were using dark souls style mapping.

neems Interesting! Thanks for that - will have a look tomorrow. (Well, later today.) I believe you can remap the controls however you see fit, which is always an appreciated feature; however, I don't think there's an 'aim' mechanic I can map to L2, if that makes sense. I could well be wrong, though.

First thing I did was toss Rook off a cliff. Second thing I did was toss a hired Capcom pawn off a cliff. DD is back, baby.

Let me ask a dumb question. Maybe it’s super apparent if you play with the hud on. Is there a way to tell what time it is? Cause I can level up my pawn and I but it looks like midday, so it’d be a waste of experience and game time.

For anyone not happy with their appearance the bloke in the rift chamber in the city sells the makeover books, can't remember how much for though.
