Loving the reviews on this so far. Like the first game but bigger, better and just… MORE! … is all I could really have asked for.
I’m also intrigued by the comments in EG’s review of some unexpected and unannounced mechanics… the first definitely had some great surprises especially in the end game, so I can’t wait to see what’s in store. Very excited for Friday!

Sounds like the PS5 has the edge console wise. Aw man. I went with SX in the hopes that VRR/LFC does some magic shenanigans in the background. I almost don't want to read anything Digital Foundry related as it took me ages to get over the lighting in P3R, but I probably wouldn't have noticed how shit it was if I hadn't watched one of their videos.

Just read the EG review. High praise indeed! Will check out a few others but I'm sold. This will probably last me the rest of the year, which I'm ok with.

Going by the RPS article, they weren't kidding about the minimum cpu. Looks like I'll be going ps5 instead - I can still stream it to steam deck.

Brace yourself for the shipping updates!
I wanted to save myself a couple of quid and get the TGC eBay deal, but bloody hell Currys don't make it easy to cancel your order. Bastards had better not let me down!

I've seen a performance video today that had PS5 at a lower frame rate than Series X, both games are 4k with no DRS. PS5 has higher quality shadows, it could be a bugg though. I think it was 40fps max for series X and 38 for PS5. Oh and RT is global illumination and it can't be turned off, reflections are SSR.

I watched two video reviews earlier and it looks great and it gained high praise. One thing I noticed in all the footage that no one mentioned was it looked like combat didn’t have much weight to it, with many enemies not reacting when being struck with the players huge weapon. As it was never mentioned though I’m sure it isn’t an issue.

Annoyingly I have family round at the weekend so will probably have to wait until next week. I could possibly get a bit of time in on the portal but I feel my first experience of this should be on the big screen.

Just murder every NPC in the game and the framerate will be much higher.

roll up roll up, get your non-DF performance examples
series consoles look fuzzy, with ps5 looking sharper and pc sharper still series s with is smaller ram pool has some questionable texture issues consoles hover around the 30-40 fps mark when open world with pc around 55-60 (5800x3d, 3080, 32gb ram), or mostly locked 60 (with 4090) but requires dlss or equiv al platforms suffer the same tank into 30s in ai/npc or heavy streaming areas such as towns. also fast camera pans see dips (gsync/vrr helps) steamdeck. don't bother. even down to 640x480 its around 7-14 fps
tldr, CPU heavy game has unstable FPS.

FPS dips on a 4090? Eek.
So I don't really *need* a new game, but kind of tempted by this. Comes down to choice between PS5 and my PC...

Comes down to choice between PS5 and my PC... doesn't matter how powerful the gpu is, the cpu is the limiting factor. if its limping along trying to calculate all the npc/enemy AI or processing streaming calls, its not sending commands to the the gpu to 'do its thing' the 5800x3d used in the video above is a not exactly a slouch but it'll be interesting to see the cpu thread usage when its in the wild

Supposedly it is down to the CPU issues and how the NPCs are handled, hence why it is particularly an issue in towns and adjusting graphics settings doesn't have much of an impact. Hopefully it will be fixed, but I expect they won't do too much about it.
Baffling how EG could call the performance perfect on PC.

The Gamespot vid I watched specifically mentioned that the combat felt weighty and grounded I think it will be a rare day one purchase for me thanks to it being £59.99 (ain't paying £70 for a game) Will use my US Playstation account along with US points purchased off "dodgy" sites, should get it for around £50 on PS5

I’ve been a bit daft and done a partial upgrade to my pc, with the intention of upgrading the cpu later this year. So I currently have an i5 8600k paired with a 4070 Super, into a 1440p monitor (!). I am your extreme bottleneck test case - I’ll let you all know over the weekend, but I’m guessing the upgrades might be coming sooner than planned!

You are looking a bit peaky Rob, sure you don't need to lay down in a dark room this weekend (with the gaming platform of choice)

Man, the PS5 looks substantially sharper than the Series X, weird.
25fps in towns, absolutely fuck that. Will keep an eye on patches and how they can sort that out.

Waiting for a patch suits me as I've got first time playthroughs of Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3 on the go and I think my brain would explode if I added another massive game to my rotation.

Don't think it does have frame gen, just your regular upscaling DLSS and FSR. Guess someone will probably mod it in or it could be added at some point.

Probably using a £10k PC that they expect every "normal" PC owner to have.
