EG fucking loved it, five stars: www.eurogamer.net/dragons-dogma-2-reviewPush Square are in progress but their summary: I'm sure/hopeful we'll get some patches to optimise frame rate.
Edit: Damn. Uly has me covered. Should have refreshed before posting. Still, fuck it. This looks phenomenal.
That summary is *exactly* what I am looking for, having rinsed the first one multiple times. I was actually sad about the first one last night, because there isn't much for me to discover mow. Apart from the trek to daimon, but I've even done that before once, so this is hugely welcoming news. Hurrah!

From the EG review:
I mean... That's just what we want in a nutshell isn't it.

Sounds like a standard encounter to me But yeah, that is what Dragon's Dogma is all about. I'll wager 50 quid we'll be laughing out loud in places, just like the first one did. Can't bloody wait.

PC version sounds like it has busted performance, so not feeling so bad about waiting on this now. www.rockpapershotgun.com/dragons-dogma-2-pc-performance-best-settingsJudging by the requirements only talking about 30fps, I'm going to guess they basically decided that they would just target 30fps and not bother with 60fps at all (although, sounds like low spec systems are going to struggle even with that). Even a 4090 only just about scrapes past 60fps and will drop in busy areas. This is all accompanied by low usage of hardware and little effect when settings are changed. Hopefully this is just a pre-release situation and a day one patch + drivers can improve this, but seems sensible to hold off on picking it up if you will be on PC. And don't even think about trying to play on Steam Deck. Edit - although, the EG review, also on PC, says they had some drops in cities, but were running at 120fps in the wild. They note performance problems (but no mention of hardware/settings), but sounds a lot better then the results from RPS, where they seemed to struggle to get 60fps at all times.

What's even more hilarious is that's only half of it. I thought that was funny enough but when you add in more of it becomes truly hilarious:

This (from the EG review) certainly intrigued me (as someone who never finished DD I must have missed loads then):
Dragon's Dogma 2, this same mentality of "show, don't tell" is back, only more so. There are so many weird and wonderful hidden mechanics operating in the background of this game, things that haven't been publicised or bragged about by the developers anywhere that I've seen. It's so rare to see restraint of this kind from a publisher, to hide all of these tiny little tidbits from players when announcing any single one of them could have easily spurred a news article into existence that would have generated further buzz for the game, but the frequency at which I uncovered them only further enhanced the magical feeling of discovery Dragon's Dogma 2 is trying to inspire.

Fighting Cowboy's video is titled: Dragon's Dogma 2 Review - A Modern Masterpiece.
Fucking hell. I didn't actually expect it to be this good.

I've got the pc version pre ordered but it only cost half of the other versions. I don't mind turning down a few settings to get it running at around 60 on a 3090. If I can't get that I will wait until they patch.

That's how the first one feels to me. It's a proper exciting adventure full of thrills and hugely satisfying combat, with some unexpected and often hilarious brevity on the side. And they've knocked it out the park..fucking get in.

I might pick it up on pc as it’s £20 cheaper.
So is it basically an action rpg? You run around a world and kill shit? What makes it so good vs all the other games that fit that description?
Maybe quad fathers post above summed it up.

7700k / gtx 1080, I am a little concerned. All I need is 720p though.

What makes it so good vs all the other games that fit that description? One word: Pawns
It's a truly unique system that puts it apart from every other game of it's ilk. Add in timed quests; exploration that truly feels tense; the huge beasts you have to scale and kill that scatter your and your pawns around like toy soldiers; the vocation and skill system, and more.
I've only ever scratched the surface of the first one as I came to it too late and kept getting distracted, but every time I play it I wonder why why I'm not playing it more.
This sequel literally looks incredible.

Im surprised it is no co op. Every trailer I’ve seen looked like you were in a team of 3 or 4 so I was about to put in the group chat everyone needed to buy it. I googled searched first and yeah it’s just your pawns.

Tbh I would like the option to make your own full team, a la Dragon Quest 9 (loved that game) while still allowing you to hire others' pawns for support if you'd rather do that... But from what I can see it's one of your own and up to two more from other players as before, just maybe not co-op in the sense that you can't play together with another player

Another one here who wish it had some sort of co-op, even if it was only two of us (and our pawns).

Sounds like the PS5 has the edge console wise.
