I’ve got some new gear and about to head off to the witchwood as I think that’s the last quest around here. Sounds like a tough one but I’ve got my level 60 mage pawn so I’ll probably be ok! So yeah, it’s literally the fucking Blair witch project, going round in circles. Got to the house eventually. Glad I had a mage and sorcerer with me or I would have been in trouble! Is there a stealing mechanic in this game, or is everything up for grabs? I just took a load of stuff from the witches house. Take what you want. If you don't, your pawns will happily smash up the place and ransack it completely anyway, which is the preferred method if you're a strider so you don't have to keep moving stuff that's weighing you down between you and your pawn. In fact, that's one of the funniest things in the game. You can be having a serious conversation with an npc, while your pawns are literally smashing up the place looking for items. And they'll join in the conversation saying how sad or serious the whole thing is, and then promptly go back to trashing the place again. Brilliant.

I can't fucking wait till Friday now! I've not looked at anything and if it's better than the first, or even the fucking same for God's sake, I'm all over it.

quadfatherI may have hallucinated this, but I think DD2 might have a crime / stealing mechanic.

I'm mega hyped for Friday. Only watched a couple of previews but it looks A M A Z I N G. Really hope there is a 60fps mode on PS5 though.

I haven’t watched much about it, mainly to try and keep it fresh. My only hesitation so far is that what I have seen looks veeeeery familiar.

Yeah, it's an unlocked 30 because RE Engine and what has made me pause is enemy variety seems somewhat limited. It still looks very good though but I'm going to wait for reviews which hopefully drop today.

I'm sure RE Engine is capable of 60 fps in other titles - I think performance will be the major criticism for DD2. I'm hoping PC will fare better, my almost certainly ridiculous plan is to get it on my ageing pc and stream it to my SteamDeck.

Strangely RT is on by default for PS5 and Series X, not S though.

I did read up on the vocations. The one I went for at first was archer as per usual but then I saw one that can do skyrim type illusion stuff like charming mobs to fight each other. I love stuff like that. Then I saw the wayfarer one where you can combine different vocational skills between different characters and that sounds interesting. Possibly not for a first run through though. So probably bloody archer again

Digital Foundry seems to think the game is at GPU limited also, from their impressions of the PS5 version demo. It stubbornly locked to 4k with no dynamic scaling regardless of what was on screen, causing dips in hectic scenes.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Series S version has the highest average framerate if it's pegged to 1080p with no ray tracing. Although with the way you can cling on to a griffon as it flies you through the open world at high speed the Series S will probably run in to memory issues and stutter and maybe crash.

Anybody else planning on being khajit beastren? I think they’re my least favourite thing I’ve seen about the game tbh. They just look a bit…lame. They’re just human characters with cat faces whacked on them. Great for furries and people who loved that 90s beauty and the beast show. A bit shit for anyone else.

All I've seen from leaked gameplay videos on Reddit is that it runs really well, it seems to shit the bed when there's a lot of magic on screen.

Anybody else planning on being khajit beastren? Maybe not my main character, but I could see myself going for a bit of a Gatewatch theme for the team and making a beastren Pawn for Ajani...

A selection of review scores: IGN - 8/10 GameSpot - 9/10 Push Square* - unscored/10 (review in progress, but says it the game is "an absolute masterpiece") * Only including this 'cause it was written by Robert Ramsey, whose work I still enjoy!

EG has given it 5 stars, with the sub heading "endless discoveries paired with limitless possibilities" (and the sub-sub-heading "there and back again).

Really happy it's reviewing well.
The reviews are saying it's closer to a remake than a sequel but as someone who only played the original once (and never Dark Arisen) that's absolutely fine by me!

Seeing as I'm right at the start of Dark Arisen, I'll probably just stop and play this one then Looking forward to giving the reviews a read later.

The old place for some of us (RPS) has given a positive review, albeit not given a bestest best award. Feels like RPS of old would have been all over this one, but I sense a lack of enthusiasm from a skim read.
Describe it as an anecdote generator and praises a strong story that may not quite reach best of Game of Thrones, but has a similar quality. Says it is very video-gamey, falling into some open world game traps, and very Capcom-y as well. Can be repetitive, but gets away with it as the systems (particularly the combat) feels good to play.

It does seem to have gone over really well for the most part - only Metro were a bit ho-hum, and they still gave it 7/10 - which is nice to see.

I can't wait any longer.
And I've got a telephone interview this afternoon so I'm pacing up and down my house as it is!
Argh!

EG fucking loved it, five stars: www.eurogamer.net/dragons-dogma-2-reviewPush Square are in progress but their summary: I'm sure/hopeful we'll get some patches to optimise frame rate.
Edit: Damn. Uly has me covered. Should have refreshed before posting. Still, fuck it. This looks phenomenal.
