I just did the well. Seemed to go ok. Not that I did much mind. I think I have a level 60 sorcerer in my party making things easy It's the perfect way to get used to the game before the second one comes out. But! You'll miss the thrills of beating an absolutely massive bastard that takes your party to within an inch of its health! Fuck it, op it, you can always take it easy with dd2

Right. Sacked the well off but did the witchwood quest so that’s something.

Witchwood quest also leads to another amazingly rewarding quest later on. And you can fuck up the witchwood quest so nice one there.
I can't fucking remember what the reward is, but I'm sure it's good

Right, I’d best leave this place then I’ve got the witch wood quest. Maybe I’ll try that next. Not sure I fully understand what I’m doing, but I’m quite liking it.

I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing but I too am liking it. It’s a very unique game with the pawn system.

It's totally mental and takes ages to click but it's great when it does! I was playing earlier with no clue what was going on but had a right laugh kicking fuck out of a chimera. Brilliant!

One thing that’s confusing me slightly with the pawns. If you have high level pawns available for free at the start, doesn’t that essentially equal easy mode? And it relies on you to pick pawns suitable to your current level if you want to play it ‘normally’

Basically… yeah. I have no high level pawns for free for example, so mine are all low level. Which means we’re getting battered quite quickly.

Well, restarted after getting my head around the mechanics and reading a bit, and got to Gran Soren. Sat in the Doctor Josef Mengele chair where I conducted experiments to shape my pawn Left it there, will explore Gran Soren with my buff female mage (don't ask) to see of its all Quaddy says its cracked up to be

To further confuse the pawn issue, you get more experience if you have lower level/no pawns. You get a bonus of 1% experience per level per pawn up to a maximum of 25% per slot.

Yeah, it's kinda balanced out with the pawns. It reduces the xp and stuff if you have a level 100 char in your group of level 1 pawns
Plus, don't forget if they're not on your friends list then you have to pay. And it's quite expensive. And you have to repay each time you swap them out, so you can't go silly buggers with it.
My main character is 62, and I've got two level 80s with me. That feels about right to me. Want to get through it fairly quick, but not too quick.
You can always just hire pawns your level, which are also scattered around gran soren and elsewhere if you want it balanced, and not even bother with the rift.

So not all pawns are those of other players then? Some are just in the game? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick about this

I wonder if 2 will have the same system of freebies for friends' pawns. Could be worth having a gamertag post if so...
Got the day off work today so I'm going to pull my finger out and finish off my main character and pawn in the character creator.

Computer created ai pawns are scattered. You'll see some near the pawn guild in gran soren and generally out in the wilds nearby towns and cities

There's one in the Inn. Just to the left of the door as you're looking st the door from inside. Pick up quests, select which one you want and then tool up (huuuuuuuuuuugely important) and go pick a fight. Some of the quests are passive too. So if you need to kill 30 bandits, you don't need the quest active. Just go kill them and it'll reward you automatically once you kill 30 of them, freeing you up to select a different quest to focus on. Quite a few noticeboards about. And anyone with a red question mark above their heads has something to say

Actually one more question - what happens if a pawn dies. Do they respawn?

Don’t know about normal ones but the ones from the rift go back there. I know this now because mine kept getting wiped out in that bloody well.

If your pawn gets hit too severely, they get knocked down and can't do anything until either you go and pick them up and they come back with about 50% health, or if you don't make it in time, they die.
Sort of.
You go back to the rift to get them. They'll be in perfect health and have all their equipment and you just carry on.
Same with hired pawns. Go to the rift.
I've been stuck in a cave somewhere before where all bastard 3 of them got knocked into a chasm and all died because I couldn't get to the to revive them.
And there's no bloody riftstone where I was, so I either have to reload or slug it on my own till i can get to a riftstone.
This is harder than you think because some areas of the game take a long time to get through due to their size and stuff to do etc in order to get out.
You really can be in the shit sometimes which just adds to the excitement.
Imagine without a lantern too, in the absolute pitch black with shit growling at you nearby somewhere.

The Eternal Ferrystone (Dark Arisen only) should be in your storage at Gran Soren. Dunno about regular ones.
