Play enough to unlock some skills and change classes though. That, and the hybrid classes are where the combat really shine. Yeah, definitely. Some of the unlockable characters are fantastic. I should really venture away from strider/archer and do more. But as soon as I get 10 fold flurry with my ranger, I just can't help but to smile

It is a little bit low budget and janky by today's standards though so you might be better to wait for the second to land as it's likely to be quite a big improvement by the sounds of the previews. Yeah it definitely feels (understandably)a bit dated. It seems I can’t lock on, dodge or block which is a bit of a departure from my Souls training. I’ve got my daggers and bow though.

Yeah, it’s not Souls at all, even though every reviewer at the time wanted to make that comparison. It’s more Elder Scrolls meets Devil May Cry.

I’m cool with it no being souls, I’ve just got so used to that combat over the years I’ll probably need some time to adjust

I never played the (PS3/360) original, just the (PS4/One) remaster, but even that felt as though its ambition was constrained by its budget and/or hardware limitations.
The sequel looks as though it'll finally deliver on the original's promise.

The lack of lock on will make you go old school a bit, and when you start fighting huge stuff, you'll appreciate it. It's quite different but super satisfying. If you're doing a strider (as you said you have daggers), then absolutely get the double jump skill and trigger and toss. You'll be amazed at how much fun it is

Nice. That feels like the perfect review embargo compared to the day before. Enough time to cancel pre orders if it turns out to be a steaming pile of shit, or enough time to order a physical copy if it's great and you're one of those sensible people who doesn't order anything before reviews.

I never played the original which is madness as it’s my type of jam. I’ll keep an eye on the reviews and hopefully it’s a great game as the original seems almost universally loved.

I mean if Rebirth didn't realise a few weeks back, then I'd be pumping my money into this. I've barely scratched the surface on Rebirth

I've only played it docked which is great, but not sure on handheld. Be a bit fiddly wouldn't it? It's hard enough to see what the fuck is going on when it's on a massive telly! Related, I loaded my ps save up last night and my crew were quite deep into bbi, and it took me over an hour to get back to the start to warp back to gran soren. Whole party got killed 3 times trying to escape by some extremely hard bastards chasing me throughout the entire place! Was absolutely mental but good fun overall

Had to double check, but looks like I played the original for about 10 hours. Would have been 2 or 3 years ago. Remember liking a lot of the ideas and having an initial "oh wow" with it, but it obviously didn't sink its teeth into me enough to get me to stick with it. Can't recall what made me give up on it, although I expect it was just getting distracted by other games.
Probably won't go back to it, but if reviews of the new one next week turn out to be good I'll likely grab it (after clearing a bit of the backlog).

Couple of things that can put people off early on, is the super long escort quest at the starting areas, along with the fact if you just run wildly in any direction it can be super fun but the chances are that early on, you'll get trounced a lot if you're not super careful. And if it's at night you've probably not learned yet the fact that you must have a lantern and spare oil to keep it going or it can be a proper nightmare.
It's got a sort of soulsborne click that happens in due course. Then you're hooked. That's how it was for me anyway.

Shit. The new one is out in a week and I still haven't got a job. How the hell do I justify the cost! But I must have it!!!

Played a bit more, to the encampment where you can recruit the pawns. Not really sure how that works or how to make the best party.
I do quite like it though so will probably pick up the new one if it reviews well.

Used the method posted here from curry's with the discount code to make it 51.99

I do quite like it though so will probably pick up the new one if it reviews well. Have you still got rook as your pawn? If so, now is the time where you could swap him out for a different personal pawn of yours. So if you're a fighter, you could hire a mage that can nuke and heal for example. You hire them and then go into their inventory and assign the spells, just the same way you assign your own. Then, that pawn is yours for ever, and then you can hire 2 more pawns to compliment your party. This is what I normally go with- Me: strider My pawn: mage to nuke and heal Hired pawn 1: warrior to tank Hired pawn 2: sorcerer to absolutely nuke the fuck out of everything Give it a go, it's super fun Edit - other people's pawns cost riftstones which is the currency used in the rift. You get it various ways, like quests, items, monsters etc. But the bonus is, if you're on playstation you'll see other friends pawns that are available and those are completely free. So if there's anyone suitable on your friends pawns characters, then definitely hire them for bugger all cash Edit 2: make sure to unequipped pawn items that you've given them before dismissing them. Pro tip.

Yeah I made my pawn a mage. No idea why!
Not really planning to play all the way through, just want to get a feel for it.

Haha, you're on healing duty then Yeah, I imagine you'll jump to dd2 if it's any good, but the first one is still a hell of a blast. Quite intrigued now about the second one as I adore the first.

Definitely play it long enough to encounter a massive monster battering your party and one of the pawns shouts, "Tis a troubling foe" just as they get kicked into a chasm

Sorry I mean my main pawn is a mage. I’m a strider. I hired a warrior and a sorcerer I think. Then I met the guy at the gate who was telling me to consider my party before taking on his training.
