Just playing with the character creator. Very granular and the initial faces are very well rendered and varied. Good to see some old folks there.

Those preview vids I've seen of your character and pawns scaling huge monsters reminds me what I fucking loved about the first one. Just huge creatures scattering characters everywhere. No other fantasy game I've played manages to convey the strength of these bigger enemies and how easily they can just chuck you and all your mates around. Starting to really look forward to this.

I was making papa Lazarou from league of gentlemen and the wife came in and bollocked me so I gave up on that one.
Will try another idea later.

“Who’s Papa-“ *googles*
Oh. Oh no.
Anyway, I’m boring and I made myself in this as usual. The creator is good but I wish you could chose specific feature sets without choosing an entire different face preset. Like one preset has the nose I want but another has the mouth and jawline I want.

I’ve just noticed that the original is about £3 on most consoles right now. Is the switch version decent, does anyone know? Tempted to get it for longer train journeys.

That's one heck of a character creator! Made a pretty rough approximation of one of my cats as the main character, but gave up trying to get the colours right for our tux as the main pawn.
Shame you can't seem to change whisker colour.

Currys here. (£52 with the code DRAGON20)
If there's a cheaper digital option I'll be all over it though.
Preload was up last night as well if you've kicked off the download via the xbox phone app.

I’ve really enjoyed playing around with the character creator - it looks incredible and although I have little to no artistic ability, I’ve made a decent range of characters.
The tools to age your characters are especially good - I never knew I needed a game with realistic looking wrinkles before, but a middle aged, world weary warrior looks so much better than some fresh faced youth. Also, starting with some of the aged faces and de-aging them a bit produces some good results.
The Beastren cat people are cool too - I love the ability to add tiger stripes or leopard spots.
Anyway, the PlayStation store now has my pre-order. For once, I’m choosing to go digital, as if it’s anywhere near as good as the first game, I’ll be playing this for a while.

The new one sounds interesting. I might give the first one a bash to see if it clicks.

The new one sounds interesting. I might give the first one a bash to see if it clicks. If you do try the first just be aware there is a low point early in the game where you have to journey with a slowly rolling cart for a looong distance while seeing off generic small enemies. This is then followed by an aimless bit exploring the main city of the game, which is bland as hell. Once you get out into the wilds and properly into the main quests after that it all picks up massively. But at the point mentioned above, I was almost ready to drop it and am so glad I kept pushing through as it was a fantastic game in the end.

Just jump and grab onto an ox and let the game guide you to Gransys.

It is a little bit low budget and janky by today's standards though so you might be better to wait for the second to land as it's likely to be quite a big improvement by the sounds of the previews.

RobEG definitely give it enough time till you get to the "main city" (gran soren) and then pick up a few quests and then tool up and just go out and go mental, anywhere you want. You'll soon be up to your neck in fights and complete buffoonery. Make sure you sort your party out though. That's important. You have a npc character that's linked to you, and you can hire other pawns (other npc players) to complete your party of four. You can choose standard npcs that are available in gran soren, or you can use this mad thing called the rift. In there, you can hire your psn friends pawns (which is the npc pawn that that player created) to join your party for free, or you can search for pawns from pkayers you dont know (costs a certain type of currency). You can even send the owner gifts when you dismiss them. It's all a bit bonkers but you'll get it. You need to compliment the characters though. So if you're a strider or a Ranger (bows and daggers, and they're awesome), then you might want to make your own pawn a mage for example, to help with blowing shit up, buffing and even more importantly, healing. Only mages can heal. Then hire some mates pawns like a warrior and a sorcerer and honestly, you've got a party there that can create merry hell you'll see. And for fucks sake, make sure everyone has a lantern and spare oil. Pro tip.

To be honest I’d probably just play to see if I like the combat etc. I doubt I’d be completing it.

Play enough to unlock some skills and change classes though. That, and the hybrid classes are where the combat really shine.

Then, you'll be able to get to grips with the combat proper. And if it's full on combat you want, oh boy, you've certainly got that coming!
