Zoo S1
It is not awful but it is certainly below average. Sadly my wife seems to like it.

Devs - 8/10 Alex Garland doing some head-fuck philosophical sci-if with a dose of religion. Had heard it was good but knew nothing about it other than the title. Liked it very much! It;s a slow burn that builds with mystery all the way through. I think Devs slipped under the radar a bit being on BBC but I thought it was brilliant. Loved the slow burn and the philosophical bent to it. Deserved a bigger audience. Yeah, cracking show. Just the right length and the mystery builds nicely throughout. Well worth checking out.

Gomorrah s4 Great, and they manage to nail the ending again. Some side plots were a bit weak The trip to London was awful and pointless really I was gutted my main lady Donna Patrizia snuffed it, but not surprising. 9/10 Going to watch the film and then wait for the final season.

All of Mad Men 9/10. Everyone in the show is a bit of a dick, Pete Campbell seemed to be on the verge of acting in a different show by the end. The ending wasn’t great but better than many shows, it made sense it was just a bit disappointing.
We’ve taking to binging entire runs of shows now, not things like CSI where each week is new but where it’s one long story. There are so many that reference back to really small details from years earlier that it seems much better.

Loved Mad Men. We are probably due a rewatch tbh. Loved the setting, the characters, costume and set design. It's all good imo.

I finished The Leftovers a few weeks back. Badly paraphrasing someone had referred to it as an study of grief and loss. The acting is top notch, the characters are interesting but if I'm honest the vagueness bugged me. The deliberate what is real what is a mental breakdown angle was sort of undermined by the fact that millions of people disappeared. If you really wanted to be a pedant if what happened to Nora in the final episode actually happened she and Dr. Van Eeghen are dicks for not sharing it with the world. Hello double the resources!

The Leftovers S1 - ?/10
Hmmm... really not sure. Parts of it were great, other bits frustrating. I am interested to see where it goes next but so far I'm not fully convinced. Gonna reserve judgement until I've seen the rest.

Chernobyl
Once I got over the silliness of everyone talking in British accents (though it probably would have been worse if they'd tried Russian ones), I really enjoyed this. I loved the horror elements, particularly in the first episode. It almost felt Lovecraftian.

Glad you enjoyed it. RE: the last spoilered bit, you knew it was coming, but i had hoped the initial plane incident would maybe act as a warning and that'd be it, especially after all that happened in S3 etc. Sadly not. Business as usual eh?

Penguin Town, 7/10
It gets extra point because my kids really enjoyed it and to be fair I did too. Once you get past the cringey American style narrative and script you can really get into the false narrative. Patton Oswald does a good job with a style I dislike. Still good family fun.

Anyone watching the White Lotus? Failing the thread because I haven't finished yet so I can't rate it, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

People Just Do Nothing (Series 1-5) 8.5/10
The latest in my 18 month binge on comedy series and I really enjoyed it, ending well and not outstaying it's welcome.
It told a nice story arc with genuinely amusing characters and some of the best glances to camera I've seen in a mockumentary. I'll probably go and see the film at the cinema if it screens near me.

Yep - I binged the first five a week or so ago, and then watched the finale on Monday. Very enjoyable. 9/10. I'll be lazy and cut and paste my Facebook take on it: The White Lotus is obviously a bit on the nose, an Upstairs-Downstairs / Fawlty Towers for our times, but the characters are written and performed beautifully (who's the actor who plays Armond? He should be in /everything/ from now on). Also, the soundtrack: the main theme really captures the whole exotic weirdness of the show.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet S1
It was fine. For a first season of a sitcom it sets up a fairly good ensemble and the potential is there if the characters can be developed. At least the vidya game aspects felt reasonably authentic, you can tell the writers at least know a bit about the industry. Poppy was adorable and Jo had some good moments as the psycho assistant. A few of the characters are dead weight though and should be either be axed or given more development (the writer and the monetisation guy for example). Hoping season 2 steps things up.

Worth checking out the comic relief sketch. The hit rate for these things is pretty low, but PJDN really nailed the celebrity guest shtick.

Joe Pera Talks with You season 2
It's not that funny, but it kinda is? It was a very pleasant watch anyway. And it's short so even if I hated it I probably would have persevered.

I am currently watching White Lotus. First episode down, but not really enjoying it. Only persevering because I am a fan of Natasha Rothwell. But in keeping with this thread, I finished Star Trek: Lower Decks recently. On Prime Video. Took a few episodes to find its feet, but it is actually quite fun. 7/10

White Lotus is definitely one of those shows you can only enjoy if you can tolerate truly intolerable people. But if you’ve brought your tolerance up through a diet of Partridge and Succession it’s actually really funny.

Just finished White Lotus, it was truly excellent.
All the actors smashed it and the whole thing was beautifully done.

Justified (Amazon Prime). Probably 7-8/10. . It’s by far the weakest season. From S2 onwards each season looks at one storyline and branches and it’s all the better for it. It all builds really well with recurring characters that you actually care about. Superb series once you get past the mediocre first. Thanks for that is appreciated. I just watched season 1 again with my wife and we finished the last episode of the season tonight. We were just wondering if it took a turn for the better or worse next season.

Ladhood series 2
BBC3 sitcom about a jaded man in his mid 30s revisiting his teenage years back early 00s Yorkshire. So much of it is very familiar and authentic feeling to the early 00s teenage years I had. This series has a few more sitcomy situations than the first series which is a shame but the writing is still very sharp.

Fwiw, I think Season 2 of Justified is the best one by some way. Others are still good, but only S2 has acclaimed character actor Margo Martindale in it.

The White Lotus
My toes were in danger of curling into themselves at points but this is a brilliant show about horrible people. Felt the ending was fairly weak but it's not about the destination, but more the cunts you meet along the way.
