By coincidence, I started a rewatch of Industry tonight (ahead of S3 starting soon in the UK), and hadn't realised Nabhaan Rizwan, who plays Dionysus in Kaos, plays Hari in Season 1 episode 1... 😢

Slow Horses S1 - 9/10 S2 - 8/10 S3 - 9/10
Cracking stuff! The last season got a bit daft with all of the action, but still a riveting watch. Need to decide if we just plough straight into S4 now or give it a couple of weeks to finish first...

Not a whole season, but...
Star Trek TNG: The Best of Both Worlds Part I & II
Stumbled across the TNG browsing Netflix and immediately made a beeline for this two part Trek classic.
Still remember watching this as a nipper and having to wait what felt like a fooking age for the start of Season 4 and the concluding part.
It's still great. Superb arc for Riker and the kind of big scale action you just didn't see on TV very often back then. It also finishes with that absolutely superb moment with Picard where you know he'll just never be the same again.
Pretty necessary companion piece to First Contact to boot.
9/10

I’m gradually working my way through a full watch of TNG. S1 6/10, S2 7/10
There are a few very good episodes in there and a few that are some of the worst mainstream tv made. At least I know it gets better but I wish more shows these days had so many episodes and so much time to find their feet. 1 season is as long as 3 of most modern shows, I can’t see this making it to 3 seasons (of 8 episodes per year) of S1 quality.

Perfect Couple (netflix) 6/10
being a little harsh on this, many will 7/10 it and the first half is an easy 8. very Knives Out whodunnit with a dollop of White Lotus starts strong but the last half has a strong "fuck it, that'll do" vibe
Information and plot points tossed out toward the end are presented as mic drop moments but are irrelevant to events - this person is richer than you thought! this person you think is posh started off poor! - or nonsensical, unintentionally hilarious. The spinning wheel of suspects stops where it does because the writers got bored spinning it.
I think it thinks it's making a clever point about how seemingly perfect marriages rarely are or how rich people are the same dumb fucked up apes you poors are, but duh
nevertheless it's entertaining, largely well acted (lead detective in particular does exquisite eye-roll) and at six episodes doesn't drag on
Finished it last night. Meh. It's a 5 here. Horrible bunch of twats all deserved each other.

Only watched one episode but agree with the sentiment. But there's something compelling about that - reminds me of another whodunnit set in Seattle/Oregon about 10 years ago. Name escapes me at the moment. Beautiful hateful people being despicable to each other is strangely watchable.
Was called Harper's Island from a Google.

Twilight of the Gods (Netflix) 7/10 I quite enjoyed this animated series based on Norse mythology. I'm really not well versed on much of it or the telling of Ragnarok so can't say if it deviates from established tales but I've enjoyed the animation style and overall feel. There's some explicit language and scenes and it's got Snyder's name attached to it, if that matters to anyone. Even had some slow-mo I needed subs as there some softly spoken dialogue at times.

It started well but felt like they had no plan for how to end it, and the actual ending was a “will this do?” moment. A friend at work had read the book and says it has a completely different ending, and is much more about the characters and their lives than the whodunnit. I’d stretch to a 6/10 … just. We’ve now started on Nightsleeper on BBC. I thought the first episode was terrible and am kind of hoping my Mrs will let us try something else.

I have to be honest, by the end I was getting to a point where I genuinely thought that it was going to be that she'd drunk from someone else's glass and wandered into the sea, no murder I enjoyed the first couple of episodes, but it just seemed to get lost in "hey, but what about if... this?!" for the sake of an extra couple of episodes and they ended up taking away what little sympathy I had for anyone in it as a result. It could have been wrapped up a decent whodunnit story in three episodes.

The Orchestra (Orkestret) - S1&2
Danish sitcom about the cutthroat world of classical musicians. Follows two main characters, Jeppe who is a simpering and spineless administrator out of his depth in his job and dealing with his nightmare of a wife, and Bo, the orchestra's second clarinet who jealously battles for the position of first clarinet held by a brilliantly portrayed villain called Simon. Season 1 was great, all the characters are awful people but you somehow root for them. Season 2 leaned a little too far away from comedy and towards straight-up drama for my liking, and I hated how things ended for one of the main characters, but overall it was also highly enjoyable and both seasons had some proper laugh out loud moments scattered throughout. Gamers may find that one particular actor sounds familiar, and surprisingly he also looks a bit like the iconic video game character he voices too.

Grand Tour S4, 5 and 6. 6/10
Mildly entertaining background noise with some very nice scenery. Every single episode is identical. No idea why I watched all of these.
Ted Lasso S1-3 rewatch. 8-9/10
Enjoyed it more this time but worryingly don’t remember so much of it from the first time, even things like the biscuits that are in almost every episode.

Scavengers Reign - 10/10
Scavengers Reign is about an interstellar crew crash landing on a planet with the survivors scattered and looking for a means of escape. While that sounds like a straightforward premise, I'm not sure if you've ever seen anything quite like it. The animation of these barren landscapes and alien life is beautiful and haunting, the art style very evocative of 70's/80's science fiction novels come alive. The survivors encounters with the alien flora and fauna feels and looks as it should, so divorced from our understanding with their own complex behaviours and hierarchical structures and part of the enjoyment is watching the crew's encounters in attempting to understand and make use of it. In some instances it really does not work out well either, with the crew unkowningly or being forced to confront the dangers resulting in some of the most twisted and nightmarish sci fi body horror and existential terror I've seen in a while. Truly one of the best animated series or even more broadly the best science fiction I've seen.

Stranger Things S1. A full blown 20/10. Had forgotten how special it is. Obviously the quality was up and down after this - largely loved 2, found 3 a bit underwhelming and 4 was over the top but great and really doubled down on horror amongst the big set piece stuff.
But the first one, it just perfectly captures that part of childhood where magic still exists. I think MBB gave one of the best child actor performances ever in it and both Winona and the Hopper guy in particular were also star turns.
Currently half way through 2 which I do like almost as much.

KAOS
This started off well enough... but after the third episode or so I was honestly just willing it to be over. It feels very smug and pleased with itself, but in fact it gets increasingly tedious and nowhere near as clever as it thinks it is. I wouldn't say Jeff Goldblum is miscast but he's also nowhere near enough to hold everything together.
I don't really have any other way to describe it other than to say it's a fucking bore.

Season one of Blue Eye Samurai was pretty great. Some of the music choices were very silly and I'd have preferred if some of the constant flashbacks were turned into a backstory episode or two, but those aren't major complaints.

Jack Ryan S3
A bit meh. It just kind of bland and hasn’t really got much going for it. Never seems to get out of second gear and it hasn’t got much personality. Enjoyed Peter Guinness and James Cosmo stealing the screen but otherwise it’s just a run of the mill spy craft. I don’t think it helps that Ryan is a boring character, there is no sense he could jeopardise what could happen in the way Jack Bauer or Carrie Mathison could, and the series doesn’t really have anything meaningful to say, say in the vein of Le Carre, basically making it slick TV but not really essential.
3/5

Yeah, now its been dumped by HBO and picked up by Netflix there’s got to be ways of getting access to it online relatively easily.
A few recent ones:
Ludwig (bbc)
I enjoyed this a lot. David Mitchell as a puzzle expert who via a series of improbable events ends up having to solve murders. Mild comedy and light drama ensue. Guardian called it Peep Show meets Monk, for me it scratches a similar itch to Jonathan Creek (albeit being the Upstart Crow to Creek’s Blackadder). A lot of nice guest stars for the murder of the week stories too. I hope they make another series and get more creative with the crimes
Doctor Who “season one” (bbc)
The Disney backed relaunch. Very watchable, Gatwa is charismatic as hell and the Doctor fully completes his evolution from scientist into just being a wizard. As much as I enjoyed Whitaker’s turn (my second favourite modern Doctor) this does feel like a very fresh show with new life in it.
Futurama s12 / Hulu era s2 (disney+)
Thankful to report that after the first Hulu season was a disaster comprised almost entirely of failed, out of date attempts at topic satire and multiple worst episode ever contenders, they’ve mostly turned it back around again. Still a couple of slight topical misfires but they’ve got better at making the references feel like part of the world of the show. Otherwise things are broadly in the spirit of the Comedy Central era revival and for the most part this season is back to giving us “more Futurama” and that’s no bad thing.
The Modest Adventures of David O’Doherty (youtube)
A series that was on RTE in 2007 originally. Essentially a mockmentary following pre-mainstream fame David O’Doherty as he goes about various silly tasks like making money for rent or trying to cycle to a gig. Its all very lo-fi and DIY looking and there are only about 5 people in it, including Maeve Higgins whose RTE show Fancy Vittles I also enjoyed a lot. It made for great kitchen viewing while I’ve been cooking as a fan of DOD and lo-fi DIY stuff.
Apparently the director is the guy who made that busking romance movie Once, and he did this after making a film with Oscar nominations to its name.

I only come across David O’Doherty in the last few months via a cycling podcast. Bit of a cycling nut, so been watching his cycling with celebs series on All4 which is fairly standard but enjoyable conversation with celeb romp through pretty scenery programme. Seems a nice bloke. Since I left Uni many moons ago I don’t seem to watch much standard tv so I’m always really late to such things or people. My tv habits are normally ‘this person seems interesting on a podcast’ the catch whatever show or film that person is promoting on catch up. I’m normally a few years behind on any given podcast too.

To the guest stars point, first time I have seen Felicity Kendall in a while. Probably not enjoying it as much as you it's a bit uneven, but David Mitchell has a lot of credit with me, so I will stick with it. As has been pointed out, Mitchell is probably 70% of this forums personality type, so that helps

Him and Andy from Detectorists both have moments in almost every episode they’re in where my wife will turn and say “that’s you” or pull a face that means it.
I’m lucky she stays really.
