Based on a true story Only 8 eps and later on the episode length gets very short but better than padding it out. I really liked it despite the premise is little far fetched. it does balance the dark comedy side as if it was all serial killer side it would be hard to watch but don't let it get soap tv show.

Only ten episodes, but my goodness that was intense! Only one season left to go now, but right now I don't want this to ever end. It's just sooo good!

Colin s2. 8/10. Would have been a 9 but thought they overdid the cringe in the last 2 episodes. Some unbelievably funny episodes and scenes though. The one with his dad was so on the money. And the curry house scene. Brilliant, brilliant tv.

Alma's Not Normal - 9/10 Semi-autobiographical BBC comedy by Sophie Willan about her life and bonkers family in Bolton. It's really funny and very touching at points. Her mother is a crackhead and grandmother is basically a geriatric nymphomaniac. We get to see Alma dealing with a whole lotta bullshit and how it wrecks her in various ways. But it's a very warm show given how bleak a lot of it is. Bit of a hidden gem I think and second series is coming out in autumn. Added to the list!

A mate who emigrated to Aus said it was probably the most accurate depiction of a typical rural family (like his in-laws) that he'd seen.

Sherwood series 2
Its gritty police action from the Midlands and everyone is doing capital-A Acting. Gets a bit far fetched and soapy with an organised crime angle after the first series was about the miner’s strike.
Its as good as this sort of thing gets if your Happy Valleys and Line of Dutys are your sort of thing.
The next big BBC drama is Joe Cole as Keanu Reeves in Speed on a train (with a Doctor Who budget). So that’ll be different.

re colin, yeah i have thoughts, it seems a bit much but then australia
and sherwood - nottingham is what i consider home, i spent most of the 90s there, it's a fucking ace city, really is. you don't have to crowbar "duck" into every single sentence tho. the families they're talking about are very close to reality (google the gunn family or the bailey brothers)

The recent hype for Sherwood has made me want to watch it and given me slightly elevated expectations compared to your comparators. That said, I thought the same when people were talking up Blue Lights a few months back and it was good, but BBC crime drama excellent, rather than truly excellent. I am partial to a BBC crime drama though, so Sherlock might be one for when the autumnal nights role in.

I didn't really like Sophie Willan on Taskmaster but I gave this a crack anyway and she's clearly very talented. Loved Alma. 9/10 from me too.

Game of Thrones 8/10 Rewatch. For some reason in my mind I thought it ended after 6 seasons (it kinda did) 8 seasons then took my by surprise. Those 6 seasons at least were just a good as I remembered, so many terrific characters and amazing writing. Real shame it fizzled out like it did. I think I got caught up in the groupthink at the time, not as bad as I remembered, but still a weak and unsatisfying end.

Finished another re-watch of Freaks & Geeks. I can't think of anything negative to say about the series, as even though it's one season, I feel it crammed in a tonne of character development, with no filler episodes. Just pure joy.

Stranger Things S1 - 6/10
I feel like if I'd watched this when I was as a teenager buried in Stephen King novels then it may have knocked my socks off, but unfortunately I'm fucking old and it just felt full of high school horror tropes, Prometheus level character behaviour, and cheap jump scares.
Are the other seasons pretty much the same?

Kaos storywise suffered from the same thing that all phrophecy/destiny stories do, in that the ending is unsatisfying because characters start to lose their autonomy as the story progresses. Visually it was quite good. Kind of wish Goldblum wasn't playing such a high status character, because his acting style works much better low status. but maybe that will be fixed next season due to what happened at the end

I’ll admit it’s not the highest ‘quality’ tv out there but I still love it I really like Cobra Kai too though so not a reliable critic on these things

Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker (all4) A group of mostly well qualified people with farming backgrounds compete to win the 10 year tenancy of a farm on a National Trust estate. Business plans are reviewed and skills are tested in practical real world farming situations. Everyone involved seems committed and with a real intention to make farming their lives forever. Matt Baker has never looked happier on tv than working farm jobs alongside these experienced farmhands. Win The Wilderness (netflix) A group of mostly unqualified, inexperienced reality show contestants compete to win a house in Alaska that can only be accessed by plane. They all claim they want to escape from the inner city rat race but have never even been to Alaska before. I think they’ve confused wanting a holiday with wanting to live in the wild literally a hundred miles from anyone. Post-script - the winners ended up returning the cabin to the previous owner a short time after the show ended Two different approaches to essentially the same premise. I’d call them the pre and post Apprentice approaches but the one with actually capable contestants is about three or four years newer.

Only Murders in the Building S3 (D+)
Didn't enjoy this one quite as much as S1&2. There was too much emphasis on the various romances and the musical rather than actually solving the crime, and the podcast element seemed to be almost completely forgotten. The show's at its best with the 3 mains together and there wasn't quite enough of that.
I'd pay good money to see Death Rattle Dazzle though and am disappointed they didn't actually produce it as a special episode or something.

Time Bandits - Apple TV+
Was a bit underwhelmed by the trailers and was apprehensive in bothering to watch but had heard it was worth it. Ended up enjoying it quite a bit, very different to the film but similar enough that you can see its DNA and the annoyance at the height of the Bandits themselves was somewhat alleviated as the series progressed with some new characters.
So worth a watch, just as well it doesn't end on a cliffhanger in case it gets cancelled.
Oh it does end on a cliffhanger and yesterday it was shitcanned.

S2 Colin from Accounts I didn't think it was as good as the first season. There were some genuinely great episodes, but overall slightly lacking the bite of the first season. There was also a lack of Colin in a lot of the episodes

Nightsleeper - BBC1 (iPlayer) 6-parter
It was mildly entertaining with some OK twists and escalations, but my god is it f***ing stupid.
The overnight train from Glasgow to London get's "hackjacked" and it's down to two people (one on the train, one at the cyber security centre) to save the day. Horrendous script - really some truly terrible lines - and some dubious acting don't help, but it's beyond daft at every point.
Been ill so needed something that wouldn't take any brain power whilst stuck on the sofa and in that sense it ticked the boxes, but really wouldn't recommend it.

We’ve got this lined up to go. I’m expecting it’ll be Speed on a train with Doctor Who production values and an absolutely nonsense plot.

The production values are decent enough - more Disney Who than old Who, but it's certainly no Night Manager (which is probably the last Sunday night BBC production I watched).

Final season and it delivered. This is now easily one of my favourite TV series ever. Each season was fantastic and the ending is satisfying. Plenty of surprises along the way, many we didn't see coming. What I really loved was that they kept coming back to things that happened before (as far back as S1), giving you completely new insights.

Loudermilk S1 - 4, maybe 5/10
I like the general premise, but it's quite an angry show and not very funny with it. Some of the supporting characters are fun, but Loudermilk is a twat and then his sponsor turns into an irritating twat as well. The Cutter storyline at least had some decent one-liners and awkwardness, but was obviously way too long. I disliked the whole story with the girl nextdoor more though, which was just clichéd hokum. Felt like a Peter Farrelly wet dream. Will pass on the rest of the show.

Clarkson's Farm 3. 8/10. It does a good job of highlighting the tough job farmers have just to make a living. He's still an obnoxious twat but less so than on Top Gear etc.
