3 Body Problem S1 - 7/10
It's decent enough, especially since they've made the wise decision to jettison the utterly dull main character from the book. A fairly solid cast overall and I'm definitely keen to see where they take it, although at the same time a bit fearful of it going on past the planned third season.
The game sections are still complete and utter bollocks which can't end soon enough.

Resident Alien S2 9/10 It takes everything we loved about S1 and turns it up to 11. So good! Annoyingly, Amazon does not have S3 "available at this moment" (Netherlands)

Never got past the bit where they went to New York, so hopefully the season picks up after that.
I should go back to it really..

Scavengers Reign (netflix)
Absolutely gorgeous. Iām sure someone will point out some anime or other that Iāve never heard of and did this 30 years ago but for me this is one of the best looking shows Iāve seen in a long time.
Beautiful alien landscapes, flora and fauna, all realised in crisp lines and a lush cool colour palette. Think the art of Moebius, or the forests in Nausicaa. Every single shot looks like a perfect comic panel and the animation is gloopy and visceral in all the right places.
The audio, ambient and music, is spot on too.
Its not often thereās a new show that necessitates dedicating all of your attention to but its such a visual programme you canāt look away for even a scene.
The plot itself is fairly straightforward but the world is what carries it. Probably the most visually inventive Western sci-fi show in years.

X-Men 97 - 8/10
I was determined this would be some charming but ineffectual fan service to fans of the 90's animated show. Instead it tells a direct continuation to the animated show with a story that's not afraid to touch on themes of discrimination and tolerance of each side while also showcasing off each character doing cool stuff that leads to a satisfying finale (albeit, it has to give teasers to whats coming next season). Better than any of the movies, it's just the best on screen representation of the X-Men that there has ever been. It's not absolutely perfect, some episodes that aren't to do with main plot kind of dragged but overall, there's no doubt it's the best thing Marvel's put out in a long time.
Oh and I took it as a personal insult each time they asked if I would like to skip the intro. What monster does that with that theme song?

Outer Range s2
Embraces the weirdness a lot more and definitely more of a Sci-fi show than a western now.Josh Brolin is still great as the brooding cowboy, did feel like a stop gap or a part 1 rather than a whole finished season.
7.5/10

It doesnāt feel incomplete to me if youāre worried about that.

Lord of the Rings - Rings of Power (s1) Finally finished this, after drifting away last year. I did a long post in the thread about all the flaws, which no-one wants to read (again) but I'll just say that (a) It's really disjointed because all the different groups are off doing things that don't connect until right near the end, if at all. (b) It's trying way too hard to have 'mystery boxes' and make everyone's identities and motivations unclear, which really works against it. This also means all the characters keep flip flopping between actions in a really illogical way. It looks great, the performances are good, it has some good action scenes. It has 1 or 2 pretty good episodes near the end where things actually start to connect or come together. The last episode is an underwhelming anticlimax though. Finally, it *really* needs to stop its bad habit of dropping in direct LotR quotes, especially at key moments. It immediately takes you out of whatever dramatic moment is supposed to be happening on screen because your brain is just going 'oh! That's exactly what xxx says in LotR!'. I still think it has potential for season 2 to be good, *if* they stop trying to be JJ.Abrams/GoT and just tell a simple dramatic story where people have clear motivations.
5.5 rings for dwarves / 10 rings for mortal men

Shogun It was great! TV made by adults, for adults. All the cast were great, though Yabushige was the MVP by far. I did have some slight issues with the last couple of episodes and the ending - namely that I think they leaned a bit too hard into the "Toranaga planned all this" angle for things that should have been impossible to plan, like he's this all-knowing chessmaster that never makes a mistake - but I still thoroughly enjoyed myself. More from these creators please! 8.5/10

Ahsoka - 7.5/10
Went in expecting nothing and came away pleasantly surprised. There were a few dodgy bits, but overall I thought it was a decent bit of extended universe Star Wars-ing.
Rosario Dawson was good, tv version of Thrawn was good and even the Jedi stuff was quite interesting.
Up there with Andor as the only other decent Star Wars thing Disney have done so far. Would watch more.

House Of Ninjas - Ninja Family retired from Ninja-ing get drawn back into the Ninja life. The first few episodes are cool with the Ninjas adjusting to pedestrian life. Ninja Mum gets bored and starts shoplifting, Ninja Daughter robs museums, Ninja Dad is a bad business owner and so on. All of them are straining at the lead to get back to doing missions.
Then they do and they are hilariously inept. They have to be kind of shit to keep the plot running but it is so funny how often this family of Legendary Super Ninjas are caught, rumbled, busted, tricked and just generally operate out in the open. Literally the only competent character in the entire show is Ninja Grandma who is still an absolute shark. Everyone else absolutely sucks. And they let themselves get bossed around by the Bureau of Ninja Management (which I would like on a t-shirt) when the ninjas could just murder all of them in their sleep.
It also leans heavily on 'The Conservation of Ninjitsu' trope where the more ninjas there are on screen, the more useless they are.
Still, I enjoyed it. Its pretty funny even if everyone in it is an idiot

Expanse Season 3. I felt this was really slow to get moving but it was very epic space opera once it did. How common is the Halo style forerunner trope in sci-fi though.
Drummer was massively improved from the previous season and I really enjoyed the character and performance of Ashford. Liked the way all factions reluctantly pulled together by the end but how strained it was under that veneer. I also enjoyed how challenged Amos was by Juliet off Lost, that was some half-decent character development. And of course we got the return of everybodyās favourite hard-boiled detective.
10.
Half expecting a downturn from here.

Extraordinary Season 2
Season 1 was great, and so much fun. This feels like they had to rush another season's script out and just shat it out in a day. Jen's story barely moves. The whole musical storyline is awful and you can skip it and not miss anything. Nora was a fun character and her melt down was great

We Are Lady Parts series 2 (All4)
Manages to keep up the same energy as series 1 despite it being a few years ago. Some good laughs, some more dramatic moments too.
There is one recurring music choice that I thought was a joke but by the end think was supposed to be earnest.
Paranormal series 2 (iplayer)
Three part documentary about a Welsh village that had UFO encounters in the 70s. Its basically Uncanny but with a calm Welsh Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri hosting instead of a slightly manic Danny Robins. Nice easy watch.
The first series was about a haunted farmhouse if cigar shaped objects arenāt your thing.
Inside no.9 series 9 (iplayer)
Another solid season. No instant classics but no duds either. The final episode was a lovely way to wrap everything up.
I know not everyone agrees but I think its remarkable to keep the standard as high as they did for 50+ unique episodes.

After Life S1 8/10 - Nice set up, genuinely funny, a great one-off comedy series. S2 7/10 - Why have you come back for more, just about got away with it. S3 5/10 - What were you thinking, who are these people.

Eric - Netflix
I feel like this series requires a shit sandwich approach. Two compliments encompassing all my criticism.
So, compliment. The series is filled with strong performances. There will be BAFTA and Emmy noms galore. They might be enough in their own to get you through the six episodes.
Butā¦The series doesnāt deserve them. It tries to do way too much at once. Is it a mystery? Is it a race relations drama? Is it about LGBTQ+ issues? Is it an examination of trauma, child abduction, addiction and TV politics and puppetry? Yes to all these. As a result you have a mish mash of contrived made by committee nonsense. Highlighted by a grieving Benedict Cumberbatch dancing to āGloriaā with Sully from Monsters Inc. If that sounds fun, I can assure you itās not. Itās a slog of a series and I only got through thanks to the spent cost fallacy.
But the final complimentā¦ it allows me to recommend far better ways to spend your time.
If you want to watch Benedict dealing with addiction: watch Patrick Melrose - available on Sky and possibly Paramount+
If you want to watch a child disappearance drama, please watch Save Me and Save Me Too on Sky.
If you want to watch something with a puppet - Google āRebel Lā for the best muppet skit ever.
But 3/10 for Eric.
