A linear Uncharted style Horizon actually seems perfect.

My issue with horizon is that there are too many weakness types and too many weapons. If you aren't exploiting the weaknesses the fights take too long. You constantly have to fuck about with your loadout in order to deal effective damage and it's just not very fun glhaibg to do it. The moment to moment fighting is pretty good I think but it needs a better dodge and less knock-downs.

I found Horizon 2 to be excruciating. The combat and encounter design outright sucked, a total departure from the first game. It never clicked, I never got good at it, the whole game was attrition. I was fairly taken aback, because sneaking about in the first game was very enjoyable.

You're being very subtle here. Are you saying you didn't enjoy it or not?

A total departure from the first game? It was exactly the same but faffier which is the issue.

Yeah it was the same enemy encounter design I'd say it's probably because of you're playing on PS5 there are actually more enemies in a fight as opposed to the PS4 version.

Sneaking never worked. You get knocked down constantly. The enemies moved much faster and seemed less reactive to damage. I found just about every fight against robots to be a giant pain in the ass.

They gave you a lot of tools to deal with encounters and then balanced that with cheating enemies that bent time and space to track you when they attack. I had one of those leapers curve around a corner to hit me with worse rubber banding AI than Burnout.

Sounds like everything I disliked about the first game has been amplified in this. Glad I didn’t get it as I’m a sucker for anything labelled graphically great.

Also the big sexuality reveal already feels dated

Are people not gay now?

Of course They are, but waiting a sequel and dlc to let everyone know with no foreshadowing at all just seems a bit boardroom ‘it worked in the last of us’

I haven’t played the sequel though so I may be talking shit and it has been set up and treated properly

Push Square bumped their 'Burning Shores gets review bombed' article again today, and against my better judgement, I took a look at some of the Metacritic reviews in question.
Holy shit, those people are universally terrible. You could make a drinking game that involves doing a shot every time you read the words, "woke", "cringe", and "agenda" (but don't do so if you value your liver). Just *vile* stuff.

I think a lot of people had guessed she was gay before the DLC. There's been a lot of foreshadowing, you're making it seem like it was done cynically, the person she's cloned from is gay.

Could have banged a king, for example. Straight women do stuff like that all the time. But I also agree that making every major female character queer is getting dull. There aren’t that many, and they’re all gay. Ellie, Aloy, Commander Shepherd. Probably Bayonetta. Lara Croft? Bi for sure. Ms Pac-Man is ace. Shamus is straight but trans. I think that’s it. Every known female computer game character is queer except Princess Peach.

The fundamental problem is that its based pretty slavishly on a 15 year old template, which is why the new one feels so so played out. They need to move away from it just being 'Assassins Creed but Robot Dinosaurs'. I dunno what that looks like but I would take a shorter, more compact, story driven game over another 50 hours of map spam and fetch quests. Perhaps you would (so would I!), but to me it doesn't look like the "giant map with hundreds of content icons" template is going away anytime soon. I personally hate it, and it drives me away even from games that I think are pretty good (see: HZD), but... they keep selling.

The combat is now really grating after 20 hours. The fact I basically can't take down 1 enemy with a quiver of arrows is ludicrous. The inventory/weapon mess is bad. You know that when you have to turn on auto-pickup for crafting items that something is wrong. Often I have no idea where enemies are because the threat indicator is useless. Took down an entire camp (because stealth doesnt work), which was ten minutes of running around spamming attacks and crafting to restock ammo and the leader one shot me with a fire grenade. FUN!
I'm going to be firmly sticking to main quests now as I do like the game and I'm still consistently amazed by how it looks, but it's just so old fashioned in it's design.
First 15 hours = 9/10 but now it's heading towards a 7 (for your information).

I think it eventually becomes more annoying than it should because the best or even decent gear and unlocks are gated behind absolutely insane fetch quest/material requirements.

Yeah the very first side quest to get materials for some armour sets the tone. As soon as the NPC started ironically going on about needing just one more resource to finish the armour, I vowed to not engage with any of that shit. If I can't complete the game with the armour/weapons I get from main quests then I'm out, I guess.

I found the sequel fairly clunky to start with but after 15 hours or so it really started to click with me. I've been playing it on hard which I admit I almost changed but glad I didn't. It is an odd game though and I can see where the frustrations come from, however, once you get a few overrides, and some better weapons it does feel good. I do enjoy the need to be fairly stealthy and have a plan of action when coming across a bunch of nasty beasts. Also overriding one dino and then calling in a fire Raptor of your own and watching the fireworks is still fun for me. On top of that just a stunning world at times, great underwater effects and some good side quests. Top tip for needing mats for upgrades (probably been mentioned before), create a job from the upgrade path of weapon or armour. Makes hunting for elusive loot a lot easier. Remember folks, you are out in the wilds so a bit of foraging is required.

The critical problem is that it just isnt fun and that is compounded by the material drop not being guaranteed. Needing 10x Bellowback Ballsacs and there being like a 20% chance of it dropping is absolute bullshit.

Aye, plus it stops you from spamming exploding death spears, which annoyed me. Why make a fun weapon and then punish you for using it.

That is probably the biggest issue I have with game, the pacing of it is a bit off. By the time you get your upgrades and whatnot, the game is pretty much done so you do miss out on the OP destroying of dinobots.
