Must admit after about 5 minutes of going WOW THIS LOOKS GOOD I don't really give a shit, other than it doesn't drop to 10 fps.

There are genuinely a few parts that look really bad though. I remember screenshotting this cutscene because there was this really distracting artifact around all the characters. Maybe dogshit is a bit much, but there are visual artifacts that are realllly distracting on a big screen and in motion.
I usually go for performance mode at all costs but this is the first game I've played where the loss of quality has actually been distracting at any point.

IIRC the worst looking area I saw so far was outside the first cauldron you visit in the story, looking back from the entrance all the detail just kinda turned into a big grainy soup. It didn't look good at all. It tends to be isolated moments rather than across the board though.

What am I seeing that is bad?

FG's image viewer doesn't blow the image up to the correct size so the image I posted originally isn't representative of how it looks on a screen, I replaced it with a perf/resolution comparison from the image zoomed to 100% instead.

Finished, got the platinum. 133hrs. Loved it, although there were a few annoyances such as the melee combat. As a big fan of HZD I wasn't disappointed by this at all. I noticed a graphic glitch after pretty much every fast travel to a campfire. But it didn't soil anything, and the beautiful scenery repeatedly made up for it.
I reckon there will be a third one and I'll be all over it. Roll on the DLC.

Yeah it's confirmed to be a trilogy with a monster Hunter themed dlc coming.

Worth bumping this thread to mention today's surprise update. Performance mode has been given a massive facelift getting rid of all the fuzzy bullshit that has plagued it since launch. Looks a totally different game.

I'm playing on shiny whore mode and it's absolutely gorgeous. The smoothness of 60fps couldn't even sway me.

It's absolutely flawless in 60fps now. Legitimately gone from looking okay to one of the best looking games I've ever played.
I was heading to bed after State of Play. Ended up checking it out and staying up until like 1.30 it was such a difference.

Yeah they pushed one out last night during State of Play. Adds New Game+ and stuff too but the graphical improvements are by far the biggest change.

Annoyingly I'm right to the far side of the map so will probably be nearing the end game soon.

Heh, I literally picked it back up yesterday morning after binning it because of the shimmering in Chainscrape during launch. 12 hours later it's fixed out of the blue. Lucky, lucky bastard I am.

It really has to be seen to be believed as it just sounds like exaggeration. It's completely transformed the visuals.

Agreed, it looks a lot cleaner now - very impressed. The shimmering didn't really bother me as such, it's just having the niggling feeling that it could look better especially comparing to HZD on PS5 after the 60fps patch.
It's a beautiful game.

Nice. Played it only for a few hours before Elden Ring got in the way - now the only question is, do I remember anything, or do I start from scratch?

Just got to Plainsong. Can imagine this area would have been fucking rough in performance mode just yesterday with the shimmering. Utterly gorgeous now.
Please excuse me while I fawn over this game 3 months late for the next little while.

Loved it, although there were a few annoyances such as the melee combat. So only about 90% of the actual gameplay then?
Even if you didn't want to melee, pretty much every enemy had a special move that made them able to move over impossible distances in zero time in an unavoidable move forcing you to melee the fuckers.

Yeah, giving everything a homing attack that can track around corners is a ridiculous overreaction to everyone killing everything from middle distance in the first one.

Don't forget also a camera that has advanced AI controlling so it's always guaranteed to pointing in the least useful direction possible, how the Aloy consistently get trapped behind trivial items of scenery despite being some kind of super parkour mountain climber the rest of the time, and the fact that if she gets knocked down it takes her the rest of the day to get back up again.
Fun fun fun!

The knock-downs are really annoying and way too frequent. Surprised they haven't been toned down.

I'm very confused at how sharp this looks in performance mode, it doesn't do well with hair of moving foliage but texture detail looks almost sharper than the quality mode.

Tempted to dive back in then. Still feel like there’s probably tons to do since I rushed through the second half to finish it.
