I love the sequel, but it took a long time to click. Once I started just exploring and soaking it all in I love it, but the first 5 hours or so just didn’t feel right for some reason.

Does anyone remember the gameplay preview they did ages back, which had Aloy rescue Erend and fight guys mounted on elephants ala The Return of the King?
Because that never happened in the game, unless it’s part of some side-quest.

No, that was from a vertical slice of the game, they put some parts of that throughout the game but the actual mission, no.

Well I'm really getting into it now. Just been to Minerva and seems the game is opening up more now.
I do agree that there are too many weapon and ammo types though. It feels like I'll get a few trusty faves and just stick with them throughout the game rather than try something new.

I feel like I'm missing something with the shredder... Maybe I just need more practice.
Liking the spike thrower though.
It must be long enough since the first game that I can't remember if it had the blast sling or not. I assume it did. My current usual loadout is hunter bow, sharpshot bow, another hunter bow (with frost arrows), boltblaster, blast sling spike thrower.
I will swap in tripcaster and/or ropecaster depending on the situation. Don't really like the warrior bows (although I would like to try out the Carja's Bane) and shredder seems fun but I keep getting hit. Need to git gud...

With the shredder I've just been aiming it at armoured points/weak spots and it, urm, shreds! Makes light work of a lot of enemies. Plus the ammo comes back like a Frisbee.

Boltblaster was my favourite non-bow weapon. If you use the 'empty clip' skill with the right ammo, you do massive damage and can apply a status effect on virtually any enemy in one volley.

The range on the blastsling is pretty impressive. There's a slaughterspine location high in the mountains above a small Tenakth settlement (scorcher site just north, and tremortuck NW) I can hit the machine with the sling at longer range than the hunter bow.

Got to the Sky clan and finnaly getting some decent gear. Got a sharpshooter bow that had these implosion arrows that wipe out everything. It's needed because the dinobots are getting much bigger and deadlier.
Still irks me you need cash as well as resources to buy stuff.

A friend of mine was very pleased with his performance here. I haven't played this game, so have no reference point as to whether this was great or not. But he was very chuffed.

Playing this atm and I just wish there was a bit less going on.
Especially in the combat, feels like there are just too many elements and stuff and I have to keep swapping shit out might fight.

There's definitely too many weapon types and I don't think I've ever used the balloon trap things.

Dude, they're so good though! I didn't like the first game for quite awhile because all I was doing was shooting fire arrows at things, but the balloon bombs and tripwire really make the game so much more fun.

It just kinda annoyed me, I found a bunch of the weapon stuff overly fiddly in the first game so I was happy to see they had expanded the weapon wheel to 6 things equipped.
And then I saw there were a billion more ammo types.

Yeah, switching ammo types in the heat of battle was fiddly as fuck. 18 items is far too much for a quick wheel.
I didn't bother with the proximity bombs after the tutorial, as the tripcaster just felt so much slicker to use (especially if you got the quick shot skill)

I had a quick blast on Zero Dawn after a good year and I agree there's way too many weapons/ammo types going on. It took me a good 30 mins to get my head around what the fuck I was doing again.

And done. Got the platinum last night.
A weird one, so many annoying bits, especially the climbing which was atrocious. Either you were glued to a ledge and no choice or you were blindly dropping to your death without her grabbing to anything.
But that world! Damn I loved exploring. 95 hours in the end, all missions, all collectibles, just such a joy! I loved the characters, the story etc, and unlike everyone else it seems I liked Aloy and her talking to herself.
A 7/10 game that I loved like a 9/10 game.

I'm closing in on the end. I think I'm just before the final mission, and then I went off and got the Skykiller spike thrower which I am now upgrading.
Weapon wise I generally use bows with a bit of slingshot and maybe spike thrower.
In Zero Dawn I remember using the tripcaster and the ropecaster a lot. Neither seem so good this time around.
Edit - Oh, and I'm at about 110hr

God the climbing is fucking annoying for sure.
I have the same issue with the world map as the first game, which is that something about it just makes everywhere feel the same. I don't know if it's a lack of natural landmarks or what, but for some reason it all just blends into one for me.

Yeah, pretty much the first thing I did was turn on the highlights for climbing paths. It doesn’t do a great job of telling you what’s a handhold and what’s just scenery otherwise.

After a few weeks allowing myself to decompress from Elden Ring I started this a couple days back. Only a couple of hours in but enjoying it. It’s actually quite a nice tonic to Elden Ring. Quite easy going and so far stress free. So far It’s basically Uncharted with robot dinosaurs. Which is great.

I'm about mid-way through the final mission.. (Singularity) Assuming this is the final mission of course. But it certainly feels like it.

If you've got past the point of no return warning at the campfire, then yeah, last mission. It's quite a long one.

I'm still going to pick this up at some point, did they ever sort out the weird graphics thing that people were complaining about?

I'm playing on graphics whore mode and haven't noticed any issues. It's an incredible game to look at and the HDR is amazing.

It's had a few patches to sort it, but I never even noticed it tbh. Looked just fine to my eyes on performance mode.

It was definitely noticeable but it's not something that impacts the game.

I still think it looks too soft on performance mode. I'm replaying Miles Morales in RT performance mode and it looks better than ever and also looks pretty damn sharp.

It's basically a choice of can you tolerate a very nice looking 30fps mode or a 60fps mode that often looks nice but in certain areas can look a bit dogshit. Foliage looks a bit better than it did at launch though. It's basically that the world is incredibly detailed and filled with fine detail which can result in a lot of shimmering and smudgy, muddiness during reconstruction to a higher res.
