They said they have already fixed it and you should have had an update. If you haven't restart your game twice.
It's weird how not everyone is getting the shimmering considering the hardware is the same.
Also no idea if the update resolves it or not
The shimmering they fixed was for HDR shimmering issues on top of the peformance mode shimmering.
It's extremely obvious to me. This vid shows it quite well - the whole image looks like it's crawling constantly. If you're not seeing it I assume you're probably far enough from your display not to notice it. I'm playing on a 27" monitor that I'm quite close to and it's really obvious. Just watch the grass jump about, it's like all the distant detail and finer detail is doing this all the time in perf mode. Notice it looks fine if a little blurry when the camera is still then gets really messy and noisy looking when it does.
The mist coming off the red stuff is pretty nasty looking on perf mode too. It's not bad looking, but I wish they'd just ditch the checkboarding solution they're using and output whatever it's natively running at internally instead without the upscale.
I’m quite surprised how many bugs or little weird things there are in this game, with it being such a big Sony first party, and their history of releasing flawless first party games.
Still though, just niggles. It’s a 9/10 for me so far. Long way to go.

Yep, this is exactly what I'm noticing and with it being so abundant in the world, it's really jarring at times. As it has literally never been an issue up until now despite playing pretty much everything big on PS5, I'm more inclined to believe it's the game than the TV all of a sudden.
I'd wonder whether it's some sort of issue with the Decima Engine not quite being all that, but I don't remember Death Stranding having much to grumble about at the time.
So what do people think of the actual game itself? I'm having a blast with it. I'm always a fan of wielding bows in games and it's extremely satisfying taking down some of these metal mooks.
Just had a great fight with machines and some guys came along to help. I love the variety in combat you have available, if you choose to use it.
Just walking around at night right now and it’s beautiful seeing all the scraps against moonlight. If you look around scraps, old cars etc, panning the camera around closely, I think the ‘feel’ of the structure is so solid. Everything has so much detail and I love how you can pan the camera around and it sticks out in your screen. Hard to explain.
Some of the enemies are right lairy fuckers, was fighting 3 flying things at the same time and they certainly didn't hold back. The leapstalker things are hyper aggressive too but not hard to kill. I need to sort my weapons out a bit as I currently have 3 poison elements and am missing a couple. I'm not giving up my explosive javelins though as they are great.
Just got the the bit where you follow the trail in the road dragged by the big ball.
It's probably less noticeable in Death Stranding as there's a lot less fine detail in the environment. Ideally for me they'd do a mode where it just outputs at whatever internal resolution it has without the checkerboarding, even if it's like 1200p or something.
1080p would be fine. The 60fps is the biggy for me. Dying light 2 plays perfectly ok at 1080p. As has been said they are both PS4/last gen games so lets not be too critical.
Couple of hours into this now and I'm loving it. "Bigger and better" seems a very apt description, feels like they've set out to improve everything from the original. Lots to play around with and do, I'm still on the starting area. I think if you weren't big on the first, this won't be any more your cup of tea though.
Just don't like how weirdly clingy some returning characters are. And that tacked on board game.
Initially wasn’t keen on the desert setting (I’m on way to get the Minerva thing or whatever) but I’m fucking loving the feel of it now. Reminds me of Star Wars.
This game. Ahh, it’s so good. Have to admit, even the story has hooked me in! Loving the sci-fi element.
It’s just fricking brilliant. About to climb one of those tall boys!
What happens if you drop a 4K output to 1080p - the console still internally tries to output at 1440p or whatever and hits the 60fps or will it do 1080p at 60fps and not rely on the checker boarding? Might the TV do a smoother job of upscaling to 4K?
There's a bit near the end (for real this time) of the first game where one of the datapads says something like "Naoto sent me a message. A poem. It was long so I didn't read the whole thing" and I'm like 🥸👆🏽 Why weren't they more self-aware when placing most of the lore behind datapads and audio files?
I'm at the talk to your friends before the final battle point, so I could finish it tonight buuuuuuut I'm a little buzzed and don't think I'm ready for a big boss battle.
I’m still using a 1080p TV. It was a pretty high quality one and I’ve been mostly happy with it. Was tempted recently to get a new Samsung 4K Good Thingy when it was on sale, but resisted as I’ve been haemorrhaging money for two years now, and a few days later got notice I’d have to move house, which has cost a fucking fortune, so I’m pretty glad I held off the purchase.
Hopefully after the move everything will settle, I’ll be able to save again, and then the TV I liked will come on sale again. Seems pretty late to be joining the 4K revolution, but the TVs now (full array leds etc) seem to be hitting a perfect patch of tech vs affordability.
You can pretty much render internally at any resolution you want and output at 4k. Results can vary but checkerboarding and reconstruction aren't necessary. Demon's Souls renders internally at 2560x1440 and looks awesome.

Shit, Returnal renders at 1080p and looks fantastic. It depends on how effective your checkerboarding, or in PC's case, DLSS, solution is. It's why people still hold Insomniac at such a high regard as well. Its 60fps RT mode is 1440p, but it looks so good it doesn't matter.
That said, I've not played FW yet, so I'm not shitting on it. I had beef with Cyberpunk which everyone was praising, but everyone's eyes and prescriptions are different.
So I did finally manage to get some time on this over the weekend. Very much enjoying it so far.
I only really made it through the prologue section (as far as the long cable car ride and the first bonfire) but there was plenty there to hook me in.
It looks fantastic (Resolution mode on PS5) and I’m not finding 30fps too off putting. Panning the camera is the only thing that really shows it up, but I think I need to play with the motion blur settings before decide whether to switch permanently to performance mode.
Either way, the art design and sheer scale of the game is marvellous. Character models are much improved too.
I’m liking the grapple hook and the way you can sort of slingshot yourself up long climbs. Takes a bit of getting used to controls wise, but it’s a nice change. Scanning with the focus pulse for handholds is a nice touch too - and there are still some yellow grabs to make things obvious if you need them.
Fighting dinobots seems much the same as the first game, but that’s all good as far as I’m concerned.
The story still needs to get going a bit - I know it’s early days for me, but so far so good! It’s definitely very nice to be back in the world and off on a fresh adventure.
