I hadn’t twigged the significance of who was involved in the heist and why at all. I just thought it was an interesting side story about Gene. I loved the rhyming couplets (One, Armani suits and run, two, Air Jordan shoes for you…)
Also, at the end I realised the entire thing was in black and white (obviously it had to be given the setting) but that hadn’t even occurred to me while watching it.

I vaguely remembered it was a cab driver that recognised him and didn't twig it was that guy until he was stood there shocked at seeing Jimmy/Gene sat with his mum. It helped that we saw the cab park up outside the house just beforehand as well.
I loved the episode and don't get the hate it seems to have from some viewers. It was a nice flash forward episode of Gene and shows that Jimmy is still clever and it gave an insight into what still manifests inside but at the end he left his Saul persona hanging on the rack with the gaudy shirt and tie combo.

My benefit is I have a fucking good memory for this stuff. The security guy with the tache who doesn't like him was on duty in the opener to series 3, where Gene sees him stop a shoplifter and shouts "get a lawyer!" - hence his displeasure.
There was also a reference to the time he was overnight in the bin store and wouldn't call someone to break him out - he carved "SG was here" into the wall, which was briefly seen in the montage.
There's also the series 4 Breaking Bad scene (opener of Ep 5 - Quite a ride), when he's shredding all his documents, he tells Francesca that she has to be waiting for a call at a specific phone at 3pm on 12th November - that was written and shot 3 years ago.
I suspect they've had the end game set up for a while and covid/ Bob's heart attack cocked things up. They lost Don to the HBO show, which meant calling in the new guy who just doesn't quite match up and creates a jarring tonal shift. Reshooting the earlier stuff with him would have been the correct way to go and would have only taken a couple of days.

The thing is, they've dug up every last Breaking Bad actor for Better Call Saul, so they've set an expectation. To use a 2 different actors for the same part within Better Call Saul wasn't even something I considered a possibility. It's strange they even bothered with the episode at all, given its tangental nature and the fact a key actor wasn't available. Maybe filming had been set in motion and it was a last minute thing.
I'm very interested to see what they're going to do with the few remaining episodes, given they could have easily ended the show in the previous episode. Kim's departure was very abrupt, so maybe we'll see more of her story.

Nailed on that Kim is the phone call. She also grew up in Nebraska. My guess is that Jeff's mum twigs something is up, Kim helps out but Jimmy ends up in prison but he's perfectly capable in there.
The suggestion at the end of the Gene episode was that he doesn't need Saul anymore.

Yes, either that or it's Gene wistfully longing to be Saul again, so he can feel complete, instead of living this boring black & white purgatory. Which phone call are you referring to?

So the scene everyone has been waiting for was pretty much the scene we expected. Personally, I did not enjoy it. Completely unnecessary and took me out of it.
I can see the impact it was having on the present storyline with the scams but the message would have been clear without. I know they're looking to have BCS as self contained, so anyone can watch it if they haven't seen BB but...come on.
Dreading the Aaron Paul scene.

I've no doubt we'll get a proper episode finishing off Kim's story.

Enjoyed that. Pinkman looks jarringly old. I came to post this, genuinely shocked. I mean he is still younger than me, it also wasn't just his aging, he looked "off" can't really explain, but wow! not been so surprised since seeing Tod triple his weight

I enjoyed it, sure it was gimmicky but this episode directly referencing the episode Better Call Saul in Breaking Bad with one called Breaking Bad in Better Call Saul was rather nice. Wish spoiler space on here just blanked stuff without the click to show button, this is going to look like a complete mess when I hit create post.

Agreed, it's consistently been my favourite show since it started. I'll be a little sad when it's over.
I don't know what I'm going to replace it with, but I might do a full rewatch, because some of the earlier episodes are a distant memory.

It's been long predicted/ theorised that the BB crossover would be that episode, using the name switch. It makes sense, from a synergy/ parallel standpoint of the November 2010 plot.
The last episode is likely a play on the "Felina" title too.

I might go The Wire route, only ever seen one or two of those, maybe Ozark ? I can recommend Snowfall (5 seasons on bbciplayer) drama set in 1980's 'Merica and the drugs explosion, also TopBoy (2 series, 2 seasons) on NetFlix, sublime drama set in En-Ger-Land/London about drugs. Both 10/10.

Wonder if this will be it for the breaking bad world. Can't see where else they could go with the show, everyone seems to be getting closure.
What a wonderful ride

Vince did Battle Creek which exploded on entry. Peter Gould has either said or hinted that they have "other stories to explore" and has referred to it at the BB universe. My gut feeling is we get something tangential, like Jack's neo Nazi crew. I read a thing about how bikers are big into the meth trade. Though it would probably be too close to Sons of Anarchy. There's also the consideration of a "copycat" for the Heisenberg formula, which could get out. Or something from DEA perspective.

I'm getting towards the end of series 2 and it's good, but it's so bloody miserable, and I don't think there's a single sympathetic character at this point. There's no joy to be had in any of it. BB or Better Call Saul gave certain episodes or scenes a light-hearted tone, and it was also fun to watch Walter, Mike, or Jimmy's plans unfold. In contrast, Ozark has very little of this.
