Mandatory online is basically gaming kryptonite as far as I'm concerned, GTA6 would go straight to never-buy status.

I can’t remember if it was there at launch, but the online mode was very, very bare bones at the start, and the grind to get enough cash for your own properties or vehicles was immense. I dropped off it for a while, and only established a proper foothold later by buying the starter pack that included biker and office properties.
These days, the online is much more respectful of your time as a new starter, and there are more ways to earn serious cash without spending real world money. Hopefully that “generosity” (VERY heavily in quotes) will carry over to GTA 6 online, but they’re going to have a difficult time bringing current online mode players over if it’s as barren as GTA V online was at launch.

There’s no way it would be mandatory but I can imagine it being optional, ie “spawn real players into your world while you’re not on a mission? Y/N” I’d be okay with that, but I’m used to shrugging and saying shit happens when a flying bike blows up me and my cargo, so I might have built up a tolerance for it.

I won't be impressed if there isn't an offline single player mode. I'm just not interested in racking up frags for my clan.

Yeah I think Watchdogs did something along those lines and that was fine. I wouldn't put it past Rockstar to do some (ugh) live service type shit given GTA online basically printed money for them (to the point that they cared very little about anything else, RDR2 seems like more a miracle than ever) but it's probably not super likely.

If it doesn't have a dedicated single player mode it won't be on my radar, it's as simple as that.
Ideally the single player and multiplayer aspects can be segregated, GTAV became pretty tiresome with constant updates for GTA online, that had absolutely zero bearing in single player. To the point where I just uninstalled it in the end.
I have very little interest in playing with other people. I play a couple of MMOs and even in those I only actually like playing with people I know. Most of my games I enjoy being in my own silo and don't really care much about being part of a fandom.

Would be happy if it came in 2 discs/downloads. 1 for the single player and the other for online.

I’ve put hundreds of hours into GTA Online and it’s never been about racking up frags for my clan or playing with people I know- most of it was doing the activities in free play while other randos got on with their own stuff. Sometimes our paths crossed, and that could turn hostile, friendly or funny, but for the most part I saw it as an extension of the main game, with less plot, and more grinding for cash to spend on vehicles and properties. And I’m a sucker for that kind of thing. They haven’t done new air vehicles in ages though, so I’m also hoping there’s a whole new hangar to fill up in the next game.

I only played it briefly online but it has the same issue I have with most other online games: the gameplay itself and the missions were fun for an hour or so but it wasn’t fun enough or different enough throughout for me to keep playing. I’m sure with friends it would be great but I don’t do that these days.
I’ve only any interest in single player in any game.

I didn't play 5 at all. Kind of passed me by after I got a bit fed up of 4. I'll be all over this though after a decent break.

I never finished the game in gt5 but played a quite a lot of the online game, most of which I played solo.
I quite liked the risk/reward of it all with the business side of things and expanding the vehicle collection.
It still throws up some fun randomness, like my chum and I hurtling down a hill in a bin lorry to drop of cargo and running over another player just minding their own business crossing the road. Stuff like that is just hard not to enjoy.
There's a lot to get frustrated about though. The loading into buildings was buggy as fuck. They really need to sort that shit out. The hacking is also quite ridiculous at times.

GTA V released 10 years ago today.
Wonder what people would have said back then if you'd told them there would be over a 10 year wait for the next one?

Red Dead 2 was five years ago which makes it not quite so bad imo. They are kind of almost the same series. If they alternated every five years that’s not so ridiculous.

Still haven't finished it. You should at least play up to the Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern mission in Chapter 3 if you haven't got that far yet. Incredible sequence

They could have at least given us Table Tennis 2 by now They’re still ironing out the story and missions for the open world sequel. Apparently, you are given a hand crafted table tennis paddle by your dying grandfather, but it’s showing it’s age. So in order to upgrade it, you’ve got to do some chores at ‘Family Wong’s local dry cleaners, where you find out the owner of the company was an ex table tennis champion, banned for drug use in the early 90’s. You also need to raise funds for getting into various tournaments by killing the crime boss of a local syndicate, completing a bank heist and helping an intoxicated hippie track down 50 rabbits in the desert.

Gta5 and RDR2 are 2 of the 4 games I’ve finished in the last 10 years.

RDR2 still looks better than a lot of current gen games running on PS5/XS. I think this is one of the reasons I’m not massively impressed with this current gen, technically. The much shorter loading times are amazing, but visually, nothing yet has felt like even a small step forward, graphically, from that game. But I do remember when it came out, I thought it barely looked better than the first RDR. That was a case of rose tinted glasses, for sure.

It's always rose tinted glasses.
I played some fallout New Vegas over the weekend because it was installed and I fancied some FO.
Its just barren and smeary. I'm still playing because reasons but FO4, for all faulty baggage is loads better both in mechanics and visuals. Then I played some starfield and again the uplift is nuts.
GTA 5 still looks the shit now so do wonder how they'll push the envelope. Also if/when they do will it suddenly make 5 'look' old

GTA V looks way worse than RDR2 even with the enhanced updates for this gen. It is a PS3 game after all.
It is a bit of a shame they haven’t tarted RDR2 up a bit for this gen as it would look incredible. Maybe once GTA 6 is finally out.
