I never found the stories had any great reason to see them through. They're more satirical, larger than life characters and played up for laughs, main missions are excuses to get big setpiece moments. Red Dead is where Rockstar can flex their narrative muscle. We play very differently... Gta stories is what made the game so fun what made the big set pieces memorable and so fun to play. Without the story. Just pointless action. I think San Andreas had the best storyline out of all gta games. Wish they remade it. Yep basically this. How many open world games have we all played and you can barely remember a handful of missions? I distinctly remember the motorbike riding up buildings in Vice City, sky diving into the plane in San Andreas, and the heist in GTA IV. That’s just off the top of my head early in the morning half full of caffeine.

Given they essentially invented the formula in GTA 3 and are now at least seven games into using it, what’s really impressive to me is that the missions still feel unique and inventive, and yes the storytelling is a big part of that. But given that the basic building blocks are always the same - driving, shooting, chasing, escaping - it’s really impressive how they keep it fresh.

Well I'm super annoyed that PC is once again being fucked over with release dates.

My problem with the gta games is all the interesting buildings and architecture are locked up and you can’t explore any of it, which takes away from the realism. If they sort this out in 6 it will probably be the best game ever.

Really hope the social media focus in the trailer isn't a big part of the game. I avoid that shit in real life, don't want to play it in GTA.

That aspect must be so difficult to write. Its taken so long to come out a lot of the parodies might fall very flat.

Actually excited for the trailer, how sad.
Obviously it's going to be a surprise Xmas day release. I hope it's not year off, games so often are shown off way way too early.

Perhaps functional in-game social media might be used as a gateway to the online game? Might be tidier than ghost cars etc. Could probably be monetised to boot.

I'll take the '2024-25 fiscal year' target with a pinch of salt, given that RDR2 ended up coming out a full 12 months after the first release date they announced. My guess is late 2025.
Still reasonably excited, mind, although I'm keeping my hype in check until they announce more details about the single-player/multiplayer balance - if it's GTA Online with a story, count me out.

I'm sure it will be present in the game but avoidable outside of missions. I can see them implementing a fully functional social network for the online game though.

But I really could not tell you much about Nico or Trevor and the surrounding cast bar a couple like Lamar. Red Dead is much better in this respect.

Need more character info, obvs, but, thinking about it- the character mix in V was inspired- whatever your age you’d got a character, with a life and an attitude that’d (very roughly) fit you. Here we appear to have a couple of twenty something bank robbers, a vacuous Lohan type (again) and some party dudebros.

If they sort this out in 6 it will probably be the best game ever. I think that's the top of everyone's list, or more accurately, meaningful world density, rather than sheer scale. One of the greatest moments of San Andreas for me was realising I could walk into a small, completely nondescript shop in an unremarkable area of Los Santos, then realising it was a horse betting shop where I could place bets on horses with comedy names. I'd like GTA6 to take this up a level and as well as little curiosities like betting shops, include 100 odd premises that can be infiltrated and robbed, freeform like Hitman, and not part of a story mission. Graphically the trailer looks great, but I'm a little disappointed that it looks more Saints Row than Shenmue, but granted, it's early days.

I wonder if Bleeter will be renamed in VI? Given its age Tik Tok didn't even exist when V was created so I imagine that'll have some very daft name as it's clearly using its own version in the trailer. LifeInvader can keep on trucking though.

We've so little to go on. I remember on the RDR2 reveal people saying they didnt like the idea of playing a Red Dead game without John and claiming Arthur didn't seem that interesting. Games so far away too.

My one take away from that trailer, apart from looking incredible, is just how fucked society is haha. Weirdly felt claustrophobic and nightmarish rather than being a parody/satire.

Love how big and populated the world looks. Hope its not going to be another Cyberpunk.
Feels like it should be quite story driven too which is a relief after all the speculation about its online components.
Still plenty of time for things to change.
