Feels like my weekly shops are the same amount as when I was still drinking. So much for saving money on that!

Food and fuel inflation too is biting. Just popping in for a few bits is now £40+. Weekly shop routinely over £150. We worked out we were spending £200 a week on food about a month ago, so we have made a concerted effort to get it under £150.00 £200.00 a month saving is not to be scoffed at...

Well ps5 standby is 0.3W, so that's at 34p/kWh that's like 0.2p a day. I'm going to keep my devices on standby. ah is that all it is? Ok, ignore my figures then I need to stop reading about it - it's making me examine the power drain of fucking lightbulbs in my house. I DIDNT WORK 32 YEARS FOR THIS You should definitely check what the standby power draw is, as some electronics, usually older ones now, could have more substantial usage. 0.3W is less than a pound a year, and I'll take that for having my console ready to go! Although I'm struggling to see find much of any really that have high standby rates. Microwaves seem to be the highest. Also, imagine what the lighting cost would have been with 50 or 100w lightbulbs instead of today's 1-4w!!!

It doesn't help that I insist on low lighting everywhere, so I have lamps coming out of my arse

My ancient fridge died a couple of weeks ago, and I replaced it with a cheapo modern one - which, amazingly, seems to be saving me around a kWh a day!
Admittedly the old one was getting on for 17+ years old, but genuinely impressed at how efficient it is compared to the old one, the compressor must have been running pretty much 24/7. I'd had it so long I'd kind of forgotten that fridges are meant to be silent for much of the day...
So if you've got an ancient fridge, it might well be worth replacing it sooner rather than later - reckon this one will pay for itself in a couple of years if the unit prices remain this high...

Hmm, I've got an old 2nd freezer that is probably costing a bomb too. Replaced the washing machine for an Uber efficient one so at least that's helping

So how hard is it to get credit with utility companies transferred back to your bank account? I can imagine they prefer to keep it as credit.
We're about £600 in credit from October and November alone and our usage should be £100 a month less than they're charging us from now until March.
Told British Gas this would happen but they maintained it would unethical to charge us less than estimated usage of £530 a month as if they did we may end up in arrears. Very compassionate of them and meanwhile they're sat on hundreds of pounds of my families money.

Octopus would only let me reduce the extra £50 they wanted by £20 (automatically). Bastards. I hate them all, but especially successive governments and Ofgem for weak-assed shit.

Out of interest how much energy is everyone getting through at the moment? My smart meter told me £12 for one (particularly high energy use) day at the weekend. Is that normal?!? In the summer it was more like £2!

Funny you mention that. Just had my smart meters installed this morning. Bearing in mind I'm not living there yet, builders are in. I popped in after work to a smart display showing £9.83 a day. I nearly shat myself.
I'll be having words with the gaffer.

Our meter said £9 yesterday, but it’s still on the old tariff so need to double that. Put about 4 washes on plus tumble dryer, and cooking for 4/5 hours

Electricity Charges £87.46 Gas Charges £71.59 Total charges for bill £159.05
That was from the end of October to the end of November. The heating now is on a timer for 2.5 hours in the morning and the same again in the evening so expecting an even higher gas bill just before the new year.
I earn 65p above the minimum wage now and I expect I'll earn just 25p above the new minimum wage increase in April. Throw in 5he nursery fee's starting next year and things suddenly become a lot tighter.
