The fuckers at octopus want to put the DD up by another £50. Despite being £600 in credit and usage below the current level. I know why, but fuuuuck off.

I have been anxious about all this for a while but we reviewed our usage this week. We are £1000 in credit. 78% down on our gas usage over the same period last year. 35% down on electricity usage.
Still anxious for some reason.

I don't pay by direct debit, Eon send me a bill each montj, I check it and pay them a few days later. Fuck letting them automatically take money out of my account, they've made so many mistakes I have no trust in their service.
They refunded my entire account and sent me a cheque at one point, it took multiple emails to explain that fuck up. Now I have my account and a separate one for "The Home Owner" fucked if I'm going to go through another email exchange to point out the problem. I should have just kept their cheque.

Tell them to fuck off Dougs your account buffer is more than enough. How much money are these companies making on holding hundreds of pounds of people's money.

Isn't Dougs one of the ones who pays silly amounts every month? It's probably not that big of a buffer relatively if you're paying £400 a month or whatever.

We've run the numbers, and based on your recent meter readings it looks like we need to increase your monthly payments from £251.63 to £280.90. We'll use this new amount for your next payment.
Thanks, Bulb!!!

£1500 in credit here, paying 460 before the rebate. we used 120 worth of gas last month, a fair bit more this month mind. Not sure how much as our smart meter is fucked, getting a V2 one installed in a couple of weeks though

I know it's because they are looking ahead at the price rises in April onwards but there has to be some account taken of changes in behaviour. Think gas usage was down 60% on last year, electricity 30%.

I'm using about 250 a month as well.
Also, looking online, it says that a ps4 in standby mode, used for a few hours a day costs around 24p per day.
So I've just had a look, and I've got a ps4 in standby, along with - ps5 standby tv standby another tv standby ps3 standby wii standby
They're probably not all 24p a day, but if they were, that's 43 quid a month.
hm. I've just powered half of them off that I don't regularly use.

I've taken to turning them all off. Updates don't take long as I have a 300mbps line.

Alright for some! Out here in the wasteland, I think I get a massive 1.3mb per sec download. That's megabytes though, not megabits. I think the megabits thing on mine is 30 something, but I prefer to count it in real money, ala actual download speed per meg

Yeah, everything in the sitting room gets turned off at the wall when I'm finished with it now. Always relied on standby updates before I got a decent connection, but now I can just go make a cuppa if there's an update for a game I want to play. (although PS5 updates are still a bit shit with the copying wait)
I've also changed from having a NAS on 24/7 for Plex etc, to having a little NUC that I power on as and when I need it.

How much does boiling the kettle cost compared to leaving it on standby to download patches?

I picked up a plug that tells me the wattage something uses, was pleased to see my TV, Xbox (energy saving mode) and a few other things say 0.0w when off.
My IKEA standing light uses nearly 40w which is nearly half of my 2020 Samsung TV, swapped that for a 3.3w bulb.

It's absolutely brutal though. I like to think I earn a good wage and it's having an impact for sure. Some people, especially those on benefits, must be utterly fucked.

Just worked out I'm spending approx. £200.00 on Gas this month (plus £100.00 for electricity). We have only been using the heating for an hour in the morning and about 3-4 hours in the evening. When the proper cold weather kicks in its going to be stupidly expensive :-(

Its going to be grim, imagine earning minimum wage and living in a rental with a meter to top up. This is shaping up to be the worst winter in a lifetime.

Well ps5 standby is 0.3W, so that's at 34p/kWh that's like 0.2p a day.
I'm going to keep my devices on standby.

I live on my own, have a half decent job, try to use a log fire as much as possible, and I can just about juggle it, but yeah, it's still impacting, so I feel for renters and people on minimum wage. Fucking beans on toast for the foreseeble.

Food and fuel inflation too is biting. Just popping in for a few bits is now £40+. Weekly shop routinely over £150.

This is why we're in recession, very few people can afford anything much apart from the essentials now.
