Edit: @quad I’m guessing the businesses impacted would either seek crisis funding from the govt (which we pay for) or minimum revenue guarantees (which we pay for) or exit the country as unprofitable which would require the govt to sugar the deal to attract new entrants (which we pay for) or - in some alternate reality - botch a nationalisation (which we pay for) to show that it doesn’t work and bring back the same companies that left on sweeter terms (which we pay for). Before any of that happened, the population would capitulate because, you know, energy is kinda important. I think I'm spotting something here

Exactly. Serfdom and tugging the forelock has been built into us for generations upon generations upon generations. Oh, we Brits talk a good game on the internet or in the pub, but when it comes down to it, most of us will doff our caps and take another lump. Yeah I get this. I'm just trying to imagine the ramifications if we actually all did something. I know it's a pipe dream etc, just curious

I know it's a pipe dream etc, just curious Tbh I'm probably not the right person for this, but I don't think riots would be the answer. There are already various public sector workers striking. A much better tactic would be for well organised groups of other workers to tactically join these strikes and generally bring the country to a halt for days at a time. That'd be hard to ignore and it'd show a united populace, which then becomes more difficult to ignore, especially if there's a series of coordinated actions bringing the country to a standstill. Do it enough and the owners of capital would take serious notice and start to bring real pressure to bear on the government. And obviously, if that doesn't work, tool up and start burning shit.

Yes, general strike would be the thing, and you can say the lack of unions outside of the few public sector ones with any kind of teeth left would be the problem, but you have SOCIAL MEDIA now. Unions don't need to liaise with each other, just get some twat on Tik Tok.

What I find infuriating is the blatant obfuscation around profit.
Eon, Centrica, BP, Shell making obscene profits, billions in profits but it's nothing to do with your bills. Oh no it's just coincidence that we're doing so well and you're being bled dry.
Here's our reporting, see we couldn't possibly reduce your bill.
Fuck. Off.
A I don't believe the reporting around revenue streams. No one validates it.
B. Even if it was true how about using some of those obscene profits to actually help your customers?
People are going to die, because paying shareholders and bonuses is more important it's fucking disgraceful.

Its okay. Ofgem say suppliers could up their direct debits earlier so the massive increase in October isn't such a shock to the system. See? They've got our backs after all.

I am not above the idea of violence and physical intimidation as actual pressure tactics with these people. At the end of the day, you'd get shit done if you had 200 people surrounding your house and kids.

Are these billionaires in bubbles given any actual reason to engage with the world and show empathy?

Right, because letting a government do whatever it wants without a squeak of protest has never gone wrong?
