Did you have access to a horny Silverback gorilla when you were 8? Does a Volvo 240 estate count? I dunno, is a Volvo 240 Estate capable of anally raping someone to death?

I've just sent in new meter readings. Essentially my gas and electric bill is now approaching £300 a month. For a 4 bed semi. The old shit boiler is part of the problem, but fuck me. I knew getting screwed by Avro would be bad but that's £50 a month more than I thought it would be. Blimey that's a lot. Mines half that albeit a bit smaller house but the heating's on all day. Yeah, I think a lot of it is the heated clothes dryer we have to use in winter, as limited space in the house. It's currently down the bottom of the garden in the summerhouse/shed on a smart timer. Usually a load takes 10-12 hours and meant to cost the same as running a fridge. But starting to think that the price rise has fucked that. Will adjust habits and see what happens this month.

We had a sixty quid weekly charge for gas and electricity for the first time last week. I’m buying the kids fur lined onesies from now. If they’re lucky, with idiot string gloves.
I did some fag packet maths and we’re going to be down a good few thousand per year with this and NI increases. And I haven’t even counted general inflation yet. Tories: The prudent stewards of the economy.

I never really used to believe it but I had a mate I worked with years ago, we were both about 21, and he was convinced we'd peaked as a species. "This is as far as we go, mate".
This was when you had the iphone coming out, WiFi everywhere and Olympics to look forward to.
Sadly, I think he was right. I was born at the start of the end, sadly. Really, though, it's only been the kind of 40s-80s that were good. Rest of time it's been a bit shit.

Our fixed rate deal is coming to an end and our supplier offered us a deal that takes us from £86 a month to >£200. Not sure if we’re better off going with the variable rate cap.

Prices are only going to go up in April so I wouldn't touch a variable rate with a barge pole. Lock yourself in to a fixed tariff and you can always change it if things miraculously improve at some point over the next year.
I'll probably see if I can switch tariff again in March

The fixed price they're offering is 150% more than the current cap for gas and about 75% more for electric. So unless the cap rises way above the predicted 50-60% it looks like the more economical way to go, especially as we are in peak usage season right now.

Yeah, I just had a hunt around after my rather shocking bill (the tariff I am on is apparently linked to wholesale price) - best offer has the unit rate for elec at 13p more per kwh and standing charge 19p a day more, and gas the unit rate is 5p per kwh more and standing rate 5p less. What we don't know of course is what will happen after April.

That's a fucking good point. Better look to lock in my current ridiculous rate for as long as possible!

if things miraculously improve at some point over the next year. Tbh, this seems unlikely. The prices will rise and that will become the new lowest. Then in a year, they'll say "well, costs have risen and to be competitive, make money, pay our directors massive salaries, we're going to have to raise prices again". And so on. Once it's gone up, it's never going to come back down. I've been looking at the costs for solar panels and heat pumps this morning. It's a large initial layout and it's definitely not lucrative like it was a decade ago (eg, selling back to the grid), but the idea of not paying (or not paying much) for heat, water or electric is pretty appealing.

I followed Martin Lewis advise and did nothing when our fixed rate ended with EDF at around £55p/m. I did switch to Octopus on a standard rate as any fixed rate was so much higher and now we pay £71p/m.
We shop at Costco Aldi/Lidl. 4 tins of beans is about £1. Some things just are not worth the price of a brand name.
Combined income of 37k less than 100k on the mortgage outstanding but the Mrs goes on maternity leave from April so things are going to be fun.

Families are absolutely going to be hit hardest. I'm childless and will likely be living alone come April but the flip side is I WFH and other than household bills, I can limit spending. Can probably get my life down to about £700 pcm if I remove everything but internet and phone - factoring in price rises.
For the likes of my neighbours who are on fairly low incomes, renting and have to drive here and there for work as cleaners, it'll be absolute hell.

Same, don't have kids and my fixed rate leccy runs out in April, fully expect to at least double my bill on that alone, have a small excess at the end of the month for luxuries, that will all but disappear in the coming months, putting me ever closer to an overdraft.
Fucking Country is going to the dogs, and we didn't vote for the Tory cunts in Scotland. Hopefully the mongs that put him in are bright enough to dump the party that delivered their little England.

Octopus are quoting me £180 a month to fix for 12 months based on my actual usage (I'm already with them and have been for yonks), which is over twice what I pay now.
Happy times.

Same, I am with Octopus, they use only renewable energy sources, fucked that it matters, prices in this Country are tied to gas.
Moronic
Once the higher prices start hitting in April hopefully it will do for the Tories. Live in hope.
