I know, my Big Ben comment was being glib. There are a whole load of reasons why it's not really a fair statement, not least that the money has been spent before the crisis.
Still does seem a bit ostentatious. Not sure if I like it that much, not a huge fan of gold.

Car is almost empty though, I have an ability to time these things horribly. I’m the opposite. I don’t really go anywhere and always top the tank up when I’m up the Asda whereas the wife frequently drives into London and is permanently driving around with less than a quarter of a tank.

My local shell had diesel only today, filled up at London gateway where they had no diesel. £1.82 for regular unleaded ffs My Tesco had three diesel pumps closed. Gonna be some forecourt punch ups over Easter.

The local supermarket has used the shortage as an opportunity to put the price back up by 5p a litre and the Esso down the road from that, 9p a litre.
Apparently, the police have arrested 350 people at protests some of the three oil/gas terminals but there are still some folks glued to the road or bike-locked to tanks, which makes me wonder if the police don't have access to scissors and bolt cutters.

No petrol anywhere near me. So no going anywhere this weekend I assume.

I know a lad working at Goodison park who could help them out.

Interest rates on student loans expected to be hiked up. And thanks to Brexit, difficult and expensive to study abroad now too. Cannot imagine the anger young people must feel at this government. Edit: I see already being discussed in the UK politics thread.

Isn’t it more a case of the interest rate just following some measure of inflation? Ie that people could have been aware of this, and they aren’t being ‘hiked’ as such, just they are following the prevailing trends? Rather than actively being changed?
Not that it’s right of course!

Big Tesco is my barometer of all things fuel related. Given its shut I guess that's a bad sign.
If you're in the Sout East you might find it tricky to fill up this weekend.

Cycled past 4 stations around Welwyn ish all with queues, whetstone/Barnet were all closed. I did go fill up at my local as I need the car next week, premium only so that was my first £100 tank. Loads of cars driving straight out rather than pay that

As a follow up to my solar panel investigation.
I had about 4-5 different quotes. None of them have come round to my house. One sent me an invoice for £2k and I had to politely tell them to fuck off, as I hadn't agreed, just said their quote was the best and that I wanted them to come and inspect.
He's agreed to send someone round and said he must have got me confused with someone else. Even so, I'll tell them to fuck off anyway.

I thought the idea of student loans was that they were *low interest*?
Didn't they use to be pegged to inflation or something?

So they are on course. I think I lucked out, because when I had one it was pegged at something like inflation+0.5%. If inflation is 7% and they're going up to 12%, that means they're pegged at inflation+5% now? (see. University was well worth the money. I can do 12-7!)

University was well worth the money. I can do 12-7!) Interest rates on student loans were around 4.5-5% already so a 7% rise in inflation sounds about right, even if it sounds very wrong.

Is the rise for all student loans, there’s been different types throughout the years I think?
