We're also getting a bunch of price hikes in foods, etc.. from today. Our energy prices are going up, but I don't think they're going up by anything like the amount in the UK. I suspect the government is subsidizing the price slightly. Every time there's a price rise, some products like supermarket pizza stay the same price, but the size of the pizza shrinks. The package stays the same size. By this point, the pizza is about 1/4 the size of the package.

If people are working from home, can they claim a bunch of the energy cost as expenses?

If people are working from home, can they claim a bunch of the energy cost as expenses? If they are self employed. Their was a thing going round but I think it was peanuts, tbh.

That's 312 quid a year, not a bad deal if there's no catch. I'm not in the UK, so I basically have to do the equivalent of a self assessment every year here. It's a pain in the ass, but I can claim back quite a lot of stuff as expenses, so it usually leads to a reasonable refund. I wasn't sure if the same thing was an option in the UK. It seems like even non-freelancers who are working from home should be able to claim a percentage of energy costs, but I don't know what the tax man there allows. For example one of the big expenses we can claim here is commuting costs, which would be a lot if you happened to live in London.

You can’t claim that for the upcoming tax year (22/23), only the last two financial years.

Sadly, the catch is that it's tax relief ON £6 a week, not actually £6 a week in your pocket. Think it works out about £60 a year if you're basic rate tax payer.

It just changes your tax code so your personal tax free allowance goes up by however much from the basic, so should be the same impact for everybody really.
I think you're able to do it for the current year, so should be able to do it for the 22/23 tax year from the 6th.

Nope, it’s not available for 22/23 unless your company forces you to work from home.

I’m surprised the Tory bastards didn’t create a tax on anyone working from home so there is that at least.

Maybe as a subsidy for pushing more companies to a work at home scheme, yeah. But otherwise? Why should the state pay the expenses a company is offloading on their employees?

My employer just sent out an email stating their price increase on consumer products. If we don't get a pay rise of at least half that we know their pocketing the money.

Why? A company trying to do something good by giving away electric blankets which normally cost about £40 and they’re a fraction of the price to run.
I’m outraged. No, wait, the other thing.. happy? Good to see a company not being bastards.

Good to see a company not being bastards. A company that sells electricity, that will have doubled the price of electricity (fair enough, not their fault entirely) giving away a product that uses electricity. As an altruistic act. Fuck me, seriously?
