Anybody else trying Octopus' tracker tariff? I've just signed up, but need to figure out a way to monitor for them ever getting close to the 34p/10p EPG cap. It's currently about 10p under that for electric and 3p for gas. Presuming IFTTT or something like that could be wangled into tracking it. Looks interesting. Were you an existing Octopus customer or did you switch from another supplier ? The vague info I have is you join their variable tariff first and then switch to the tracker.

Yeah, already a customer on the variable tariff so it was just a quick email to get switched over.

Excuse my ignorance but what’s the difference

Yeah, it is a bit confusing. Variable rates can change, but currently only seem to change every quarter whenever Ofgem announce the new caps. Most suppliers only offer the variable tariffs now.
Trackers will change every day, so something you'd need to keep a close eye on and switch back to variable if needs be, as you could also end up worse off. It's been a better deal for quite a few months though, but no suppliers have been letting people switch until now.

Supermarkets starting to ration salad and fresh fruit and veg is a pretty sorry situation. I assume Project Fear and the remoaners are to blame.

BBC claiming not, and that poor weather in Morocco and Spain is to blame. But definitely seen others suggest Brexit is having an impact, especially on ability to grow in the UK due to higher energy prices.

The things with that is, in the same breath they also talk about UK having a more challenging logistic route, which is Brexit (but can't say it) - we live in upside down world. Good article somewhere (Twitter) about our trade deal with Morocco being a complete smoke screen - EU as a trading block dealing with food purchasing, whilst UK importers are acting independently with Morocco meaning we will always be back at queue (who'd have thought it?!?) edit - here's the twitter thread:

Shitting hell. Just put my meter reading in - 500 taken off.
Fucking hell, what do I need to do, set myself on fire to keep warm or something?

It's well worth looking at switching to Octopus and their tracker tariff if you can (I think you still can with a dumb meter and it'll just average it)
It's been hovering around 24p elec/6p gas for ages so this month's bill is less of a sting.

Do Octopus actually do SEG payouts? Eon are avoiding my calls and messages

I have a smart meter with Eon, but it's dumb. As in, it doesn't connect back to their servers, so it's useless and I have to send my readings in.
Not sure if that qualifies for octopus.
I thought they were all robbing cunts at the minute?

Octopus seem to be the least scummy of them all, but that's still not saying much... Presumably they didn't have to reintroduce tracker tariffs since nobody else has that I'm aware of.

Hadn't heard of that tracker tariff so just been looking into it. Anybody here already on it? If so, is it actually coming under the EPG often, and have you had many occasions where the price has been much higher for a number of days.
I know the wait is six months, but not sure whether to take the plunge or not?

Looks like a couple are and benefitting. I've registered interest. Seems to suggest that you need a smart meter though, which I've been avoiding. I assume it's popular as the price of wholesale is plummeting at the moment. In 6 months time, who knows where we'll be - but I don't think you have to commit to a contract length etc.

I've been on it since the start of the month and it's consistently been hovering around 24p for elec and 6/7p for gas with no massive jumps. There's a lot of leeway too if it ever does go over 34p/10p where the EPG will kick in and you'll still only pay that much.
Very pleased that I switched anyway, and if things do go south it should be quick to switch back to the default variable tariff.
Things could be totally different in 6 months, as we'll be getting close to a second cap adjustment by then, but still worth registering now I'd say.

Octopus Tracker

It says this about tracker though -
Important: Tracker prices during an energy crisis
Tracker prices are based on the wholesale price of energy, which can change significantly day-to-day.
Market spikes can send Tracker prices up to 100p/kWh for electricity or 30p/KWh for gas – that's three times higher than most customers are paying right now on variable tariffs like Flexible Octopus.
This tariff is best suited to customers who can shift large amounts of their energy use to avoid these expensive peaks.

Still, it's probably still less than I'm paying now
But I did this with Elden ring. I spent loads of fucking materials to change my build to use the river of blood sword, and the very next day, they nerfed it and my materials were all lost for nothing.

I have been luxuriating in my fixed rate which I got 18 months ago before Putin became an even bigger cunt. Well now I join the great unwashed 27p standing charge up to 49p a day alone, never mind how much I use on top of that. Built up a bit a buffer on my Octopus account but that won't last wrong at those rates I intentionally went to Octopus at the time because they use he most renewable energy, the fuck it matters when the price is fixed to gas. Fucking backward country I guess I will add that price rise to all the others that are about to be dumped on us in April. I am out to buy a lettuce, taking a fiver to pay for it (Assuming lettuces still exist on the shop shelves)

I wonder if I should change to octopus standard. They're quoting me an average of 93 quid a month. I'm currently paying 260 (minus the 67 help that's going to last all of 2 more months)

I have found them great TBH, clear and concise explanations, always good customer service, they seem to be the most progressive of all those money grubbing electricity companies, not their fault the only thing the Torys can organise is a party at Number 10 with vomit up all the walls
