Have we done combi boiler temperature? I've read 60 degrees is the optimum so the boiler can go into condensing mode to recover the energy loss through the flue.

There’s more about setting your boiler temperature further back in the thread.
I’ve set ours to 55° for the heating, and 50° for the hot water.
Current monthly bill for combined electricity and gas: going up from £206 to £257 next time.

I look forward to Ministers everywhere claiming the cost of living crisis is over, with inflation slowing by 0.2%.

1500 kWh per week is a shit ton, though, that is basically 1970s construction standard. Maybe 1980s if you include electrictiy, which I assume it does.

Stoof lives in a castle and they are very difficult to heat. The servants were the first thing that went on the fire but he is very reticent to chop the banquet table up hence the bills.

Sitting in the lounge with one lamp on (usual), playing marvel snap (also usual)
5-6 is a rubbish time for me to make any meaningful changes. Switch all of my work kit off at 5 and then just faff about a bit until the missus gets home.

You might not get any money back then if you don't make significant changes from the usual.

Aye, not expecting anything. Only time we have excessively high power usage is when I do a hot load of washing or have the oven on. Any other times and we're very unlikely to go over a unit in an hour.

Anyway, good excuse to not have food ready when the missus walks in.

Get takeaway instead. Tell her the money saved helped pay for it.
Don’t tell her it was probably about 3p saved.

Yeah, not a chance we can save energy around that time, purely as it's kid's dinner time.

So I’m not entirely sure this is the right thread, but it’s the only place I recall seeing solar systems discussed.
I currently live off grid in a tiny home on the beach in Mexico, and before Christmas upgraded the solar system. I’m now running 4x 545w panels with a 5KW lithium battery.
Covers all my needs, running a mid size fridge, Starlink internet, charging devices, fan for 6-10 hours a day. Typically the battery has 50% charge remaining at the end of the night, and is fully charged again by 1/2 in the afternoon
Can’t say there’s a whole lot I feel I’m missing out on not having more power, aside from an oven (all cooking done on a 2 ring gas stove) and of course being able to do laundry. Though I only spend about £5 a week getting it done in town.

Yeah, moving closer to the equator is probably the best thing you can do to save energy.

Haha, escaped Mexico City for the beach during the pandemic! Work going online was a blessing. Do you have hot water? Yes, gas powered boiler. Though I find I don’t need it often. 25-29C typically here.

Yes, gas powered boiler. Though I find I don’t need it often. 25-29C typically here. A small solar thermal cell and a cylinder would probably do it, reducing your CO2 output Although to be honest, as long as your freezer can make ice for your margaritas, you are pretty much set!

Anybody else trying Octopus' tracker tariff? I've just signed up, but need to figure out a way to monitor for them ever getting close to the 34p/10p EPG cap. It's currently about 10p under that for electric and 3p for gas.
Presuming IFTTT or something like that could be wangled into tracking it.
