I was rear ended a few years ago and *everyone* was utterly dumfounded that I didnt claim for whiplash. I had phonecalls from ambuance chasers, insurance agents, family, friends in disbelief that I said I was absolutely fine. 'Its free money!'. No its not. Its why my fucking premiums are so high. This attitude of "claim whiplash" realty fucks me off. Had some idiot try this on me (them big ass White van with no damage, my golf estate in need of a new rear door) and it went on for years, back and forth with the company representing my insurance company. The guy claiming went away for a couple of years, then claimed again but the insurance company decided to fight it, so I spent hours of my own time writing statements in calls with the insurance solicitors etc, had a court date lined up (nearly four years after the 'accident') and then two weeks before the court date he dropped it. Fucking waste of so many people's time. The fucker clearly chanced it as far as he could and then lost his bottle. So yes, don't fucking claim whiplash unless it actually fucking happened.

Sympathy with the Quadfather Went to take my second car out at the weekend and there was an actual puddle behind the drivers seat It was almost ankle deep. Used a cup to get most of it out but I’ve no idea where it’s coming in from, super annoying Went to Renault on Saturday and it’s £132 just for them to look at it - what a con. Earliest date was the 3rd of November so it’s going to stink by then Might get a car cover in the meantime

retro74 Has it got aircon? With quite a lot of cars that have, a damp rear carpet might mean the aircon overflow outlet is blocked or broken... just a thought. I've had a couple that were like that. A towel on the carpet will pull up some of the water, if you've got an old one. Meanwhile, the rear wiper arm assembly on my car has broken off completely, just in time for my MOT this week. Yay. So I had a search online, fully expecting to be about to pay through the nose (Mercedes, innit) and it turns out you can buy the whole assembly including the blade for £11. Result. Just need 4 new tyres, now. Eeek.

One thing that might help while you get it fixed, is get a thick blanket and soak it all up - it won't take long to soak it all. Then you'll have to wash the blanket. And drive around with all the windows open for a while when you set off, or you'll end up with condensation on the inner windows. It's a total fucking pain in the arse isn't it. Dogbot could be right - if you've had the air con on and it's not getting rid of the condensation, it can build up inside. But if you've not had the aircon on, or just simply not driven it for a while and the water has magically appeared, then it's likely to be a leak. SOMEWHERE. I might have to take mine to a bodyshop and pay. I know it's going to cost loads, but it is really driving me mad, having the spare wheel and everything from the boot constantly in the back seat (I have the spare wheel cover lifted up so the sun dries it out quicker). At least I can tell them not to piss about where I've sealed it, hopefully saving some labour time. But they'll charge me loads anyway, the ruthless cunts, I'm sure.

A towel on the carpet will pull up some of the water, if you've got an old one. Had this happen in my Fiesta. Except it came out of the driver side footwell. Did a fast turn on the hottest day of summer, and it was like someone poured a glass of ice water over my foot. It was exactly like you said, drainage blocked below the aircon.

I took the car out to do the big shop on Friday night there (rockstar baby). Got as far as the temp traffic lights at the end of the street and the auto start stop cut the engine as normal. Only when it came to move off, the engine didn't start again.
Sitting there trying to get it going did nothing. I called the other half to come and steer while I pushed - got it as far as the corner to the street to find we actually live on a fucking massively steep hill as I couldn't get it any further. A very nice guy stopped and helped and I had to get a neighbour to assist as well.
Then once it was parked for 5 minutes it started again....

Oh the joys of modern cars! Mines been having a little judder but intermittent (probably maybe once per journey but could be more or less) and every now and then the electronic handbrake throws a tantrum, so far it's not 'locked on' when I've been driving only parked up.

Have you got the right sort of battery in it? It's also worth checking the charge levels in the battery. Sometimes if the battery is low and auto stop/start stops the car, the battery may not be able to restart it. Ideally, the sensors should disable the ASS in that situation, though.
Other than that, it could be any number of things... outside temperature too low or too high; engine temperature the same; fuel system blockage (filters etc); a steep slope...
The list goes on and on.

Yea first thought would always be battery - how old is it? (the battery). Changing the battery is often the cheapest thing to do first of all and also eliminates it as a possible cause from any further diagnosis.

Nice one guys. I was straight on to my brother who is a mechanic and that was the most likely - a degrading battery. It's the original that cam with the car in 2014 so to be expected I suppose.
It's not happened since, but will be at the back of my mind for a good while.
Good to know we have some guys here that speak sense!

dogbot yeah it’s got aircon, however I’d not driven it for a month so I assume it’s rain water leaking in through a door seal I’m going stick a towel down later and swap cars so the Golf sits for a while and I drive the Clio for two weeks until it’s dried out a bit

Those new batteries are expensive. My I30N needed a new one, had more or less selected one online for €130, once in the shop it turned out I needed a special Start-Stop AGM battery that was €230. Only bought the car second hand in August so the dealer paid me back.

Over the past few months I've had massive condensation inside my car, windows dripping wet and even something like leaving a gym bag or cardboard box on footwell in rear it would be soaked underneath in the morning. Had it in garage for a few days and seems it was the HVAC drain hose seal not seated correctly and moisture entered car from that area.

Only bought the car second hand in August so the dealer paid me back. Blimey. I'd check somewhere online before I paid that. Mine was only £155 for an AGM auto start/stop. And as above, it's a Mercedes, so you can usually tack on £100 to things like that. Batteries are definitely a user servicable item. e2a: They've gone up a bit since I did it, but still. £187 for an Exide battery. More if you want a Bosch or official part, but tbh, it's basically the same.

We had an smax that had a leak-most likely a blocked drain. Front passenger footwell would get soaked with water, we used one of those karcher window vacs to suck it out.
Eventually the electrics started failing, so got rid of it.

I have to part ways with my C200 AMG line after Christmas. It's been fun but I can't justify the monthly now I do less than 30 miles a week. They want near on £10,000 upfront and £800pcm for the 2023 model of the same spec on another 3 years, so they can do one.
Given the miles I do, I'm looking at picking something up for under £5,000. Something with high mileage that I don't have to care about.
I'm looking at:
Audi A3 (S-Line) Golf GTI (MK5) BMW 3 series (M Sport)
Am I missing anything obvious?

Maybe consider a Seat Leon too?
Out of that list I’d get the Golf, they’ll go up in value eventually as there’s so much positive press written about them
There will be tons of Minis about at that price, for good reason as they are supposed to be horrible to own. One to avoid

Any of those under 5k will be sheds, though, especially the BMW.
If you’re doing no miles, I bet you could get a leggy RS Clio for under 5k. Just make sure it’s had the belt and pump done and you’re golden.

Someone ran into the back of me earlier, as I was stationary waiting to pick my son up. Was very confused, had clocked them pull in and went back to browsing on my phone and then was shunted. Jumped out to find the woman wondering how on earth it happened. Can only assume she'd not put the handbrake on and took her foot off the brake and didn't realise. Minor damage really, scuffed up bumper and light but obviously still want it fixed so exchanged details etc. Fast forward to tonight and I get a text from her husband...it's a guy I went to school with! Makes things much easier. Will get a quote and see what he wants to do re insurance job or not. After much back and forth, they have decided it needs to go through the insurance (est repair of £700). Let the ballache commence.

I might be selling an M Sport 3 series in a month or two for around 4.5k if you're still looking by then! I've enjoyed my short time with it but the urge to pickup an old Volvo is too strong. It's in good nick apart from a 2ish inch scratch near the driver's door, not long serviced and MOTd too and has around 107k on it.
