A intermittent knocking sound at my in laws house and it's driving me mental. I can't work out what is making the sound. Earlier I had snoring for hours so I moved rooms. Now it's a knocking every 10 ish seconds.

Stones latest long player: Hackney Diamonds and I am impressed, the first half of the album is stronger but still overall a good album, these young lads might have a future in the business.

Do love this group, when I'm in the right mood. Makes me want to be a hard drinking P.I.

Came to it a bit late but Anohni's album could have been in my top 10 for 2023

New Liam Gallagher and john squire track is out. Just another rainbow, great tune/music ruined by awful lyrics.
It also sounds exactly like probably all in my mind by oasis, almost identical. Which was a Beatles rip off in the first place.

Which was a Beatles rip off in the first place. I think it’s half decent and makes me curious for an album. I think Squire is very good but is way overrated by people that don’t listen to guitarists outside of British indie stuff (and even then I’d put Steve Craddock and Bernard Butler up against him any day). This isn’t as good as the best of Liam’s ‘solo’ stuff but the concept of the supergroup is always an alluring one so I do look forward to more. I saw Liam at Knebworth last time and Squire came out for Champagne Supernova, his guitar tone just wasn’t there - if you are going to use a Strat you need to give it a bit of b*llocks on the amp or pedals in a rock setting. I hear Oasis and the Roses and all their usual influences but there was one bit that sounded quite like the Who which was nice. There’s also a guitar break that is like a stumbling/stepping rhythm near the beginning that should have been used as a hook throughout, and it doesn’t reprise until the end. Squire is definitely channelling his Hendrix influences here, much like the era of those Roses singles that all used the same drum loop (Something’s Burning et al). Better than All For One/10.

It’s a decent album for sure, if a bit compressed and thunpy for their style. The second song is the best - Elton plays piano on it, but the riff is excellent.

Weirdly I first heard this song at the end of Austin Powers. It's a little gem though.

Night of the Hunter by The Libertines. I didn’t realise they were releasing a new album in March, and I don’t know how representative this is, but it’s right up my street. Lovely, dark , sinister track.

Sprints debut album is finally out, loved all their singles and EPs, so very happy that the album is as good as hoped.

Also recently discovered Jackie Shane, or at least a couple of songs by her. She has a really interesting life story as well.

I always get in a Lanegan phase at the start of a new year whilst in the post-Christmas depression stage... yesterday, I went on a long walk in the heavy snow before school pickup, listening to Whiskey for the Holy Ghost. It was so bloody beautiful and depressing.

For the first time in many years - Guns & roses appetite for destruction. I mostly hate guns & roses but I can't deny their debut was absolute fire.

Greatest band (along with Pavement) to never hit the big time.

Enjoying revisiting the first (eponymous named) Violent Femmes album after catching 'Blister in the Sun' on the soundtrack to Halt and Catch Fire.
Might have retapped a vein in 80s folk punk to explore.

Chrome Hoof are a band I adore, but who seem to fade in and (mostly) out of existence. Their social media is sporadically updated, with gaps of years and often is just pointing towards members other projects, but there's not many funk-prog-disco-(occasionally)metal acts out there. This is one of their more funk-disco based tunes, off their most recent, but still years and years old, album.

Revisiting At the Drive In’s Relationship of Command and the first Mars Volta album today.
RoC is so sci-fi, it still sounds like it came from space. Iggy Pop’s little turn as the kidnapper of a hyena cub is chilling AF.
They have a massive whiff of pretension about them though and every time I have witnessed anything live it’s not been great.
Producers have managed to coax a couple of genuine classics from them here though.
