On a lighter note, just discovered Cannons. They seem a bit like a down-tempo, instrumental version of Chvrches.

I already have this down by listening to someone who's apparently a Nazi.

Cannons is like a slightly more funky Chromatics.
Chromatics is one of those bands I really wish I'd discovered in time to see them live.

The Soft Moon - The Soft Moon
That's the second album cover I've seen in as many days that had a sort of Russian Constructivism look to it.

New one
EDIT:
I am definitely getting older because one of my reactions to this new Cassyette video was "They could have fucking ironed the creases out of that pillowcase"

Giving Qobuz a go. The quality is very good with a lot of hires content. The curation is way more basic than Spotify so you pretty much have to know what you're looking for. The app is very buggy also but overall it's hires and way cheaper than Tidal, about £13 a month.

The Smile - Wall of Eyes.
This is out on the 26th but is now floating around the high seas. After a couple of listens I think it's an improvement on their first album. The songs feel more substantial and the album more cohesive. An In Rainbows to ALfAA's Hail to the Thief, if you like. Thom's voice and Jonny's guitar both sound as good as ever, and other Tom's drumming complements them better here I think (as good as it was, I found it a bit of a distraction on their first album). Jonny's string arrangements (and the production in general) are also more restrained, giving the songs more space to breathe. Yeah, feels like they've found their sound a bit more after their previous experimentations. Really great stuff.

Pleased I assisted this band throw a beer keg through their tour van window because they locked their van keys in it.

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes - Dark Rainbow (Jan 26th, 2024)
Largely moved away from the punk feel and towards a laid back scuzziness that caused a number of early reviews to mention a comparison with Queens Of The Stone Age, and they aren't wrong.
If they wanted to placate people who were apprehensive about the different direction, they could have made "Honey" and "Happier Days" the first two songs they released from it, but I'm glad they didn't, as it wouldn't have been a true indicator of the album as a whole.
"Queen Of Hearts" and "Sun Bright Golden Happening" are so scaled back and relaxed, one after the other that when "Superstar" kicks in after them, it's like the album waking up after a stop to catch its' breath.
Even if I can't honestly say it's my favourite of their albums (may grow on me more, only listened to it twice so far) I'm really looking forward to seeing them in a few weeks and hearing some of these live.

Future Islands - People who aren't there anymore You probably know what you're in for if you've listened to any of their previous work. Some very catchy synth pop with heartful vocals. I didn't realise they were as popular as they are until reading a review earlier. I discovered one of their songs years ago via a Spotify radio mix (Light House IIRC) and have been a fan ever since, thinking it was some kind of niche discovery

John Williams: Concerto De Aranjuez I return to this time and time (and time) again, it is just so moving and evocative, I especially like JW playing the piece. The feeling I get when listening to music (many genres)is the reason why I will take music over any other of the arts/art forms.

It’s not cool in the slightest but I always loved this album and spotted a copy on my travels tonight. Snapped up!

I disagree, I think it is cool. I really like the album but you gotta admit the wub wub dubstep stuff in does date it to quite a particular time. Mrs agreed it’s a great sounding pressing but hated the music 😂

Listening exclusively to Misty’s and Gareth’s solo noodlings at the moment
They were always a cult concern but should really have been a bigger one than they were.
