Respect for still using CDs! Have recently decided to get rid of all of mine, as I haven't had any means of playing them for many years now. Will just keep one or two for sentimental reasons. Thanks lol. I bemoan modern cars for not having CD players. For me having an album in a car is the best way to get to know it intimately. Even more so than LPs, which require mood and effort levels to be correct! Modern streaming apps and devices don’t encourage that sort of listening in me. The second reason is just part of my compulsive collecting thing. I only tend to collect certain artists physically but collect them hard! The third thing is wanting the artist to get some cash for their album really. The fourth thing is sound quality - I know that certain streaming services are now offering higher definition so that may become moot with time. The main problem as with all of my collections is space in this little house!

The fourth thing is sound quality - I know that certain streaming services are now offering higher definition so that may become moot with time. The main problem as with all of my collections is space in this little house! My wife works for World of Books, they still sell used CDs and, on top their normal "buy 3 save 30%" offer, she gets another 20% staff discount. I must have bought more CDs since she started working there this past year than I did over the 10-15 years prior Like you I only focus on a relatively small selection of artists and genres, mainly albums I never got round to buying across my music-listening lifetime from the late 80s onwards.
I will admit that I do rip them when I get them, in flac and uploaded to my media server for local or remote streaming (I've never subscribed to an online streaming platform, hope I never have to). I always leave recently purchased CDs out on the desk / bookshelf / mantlepiece so I can thumb through the artwork, read the lyrics etc. But they do sadly have to end up in the big box in the loft at some point One day, when the kids have moved out, I want to convert one bedroom into an entertainment room, with one wall dedicated to rows and rows of CDs and vinyl...

jimnasticsIKEA Kallax is the best bang for buck storage for LPs if/when you get around to it. Perfect fit, you just have to make sure they are the right way around because I’ve seen pictures of destroyed collections after collapses!

Myrkur - Spine Myrkur's previous albums saw her moving from black metal on M, incorporating folk and alternative styles on Mareridt, then abandoning metal entirely for the trad folk album Folkesange. This new album takes a slight step back into black metal, having a spare few passages of blastbeats and some banshee wails buried in the mix, but for the most part it sees her taking some of the folk elements from the last album and moving into a alternative pop / rock direction. Chelsea Wolfe is a good contemporary touchstone, but some moments put me in mind of Kate Bush or Enya. That's no criticism, as it's very enjoyable to listen to.

Roger Waters: DSOTM redux. As a PF fanatic this is not an easy listen. I have had it on loop since release and I'm trying to be logical re my thoughts and it is difficult. I thought RW lockdown sessions were good but this is a struggle tbf.

Not music but I'm listening to the audio book of Big Beacon - the new Alan Partridge book. Not sure if it's already been covered in later seasons of From the Oast House, (haven't got round to them yet) but it continues the Alan Partridge saga post-This Time Season 2 meltdown.
But moreover, it has a sex scene in it that is everything you could ever hope for. As with the other Alan Partridge books, I'd recommend getting the audio version for the full experience.

Not sure if Elbow are cool enough for on here, but I recently tried getting back into them for the first time in nearly a decade. I dropped off around the time of Build A Rocket Boys (although Lippy Kids has been a favourite of mine forever), so missed out on 4 more albums.
I started off with Little Fictions, which has some classics on there. Most notably the title track and Kindling, which makes for an epic double album closer. Good to see they held form I thought. And then at random I picked the follow up to that; Giants of All Sizes.
Holy fudge, that album has no right being so damn good. Easily the best thing I’ve ever heard from them. Consistent from beginning to end. Not a wasted moment and leagues ahead of their other stuff. It’s all driven by percussion in a way that blends late Genesis with late Radiohead, balancing the best of both.
It’s been a long while since an album has had such an immediate impact on me. Probably the first since my old Uni days. I’ve been doing chores around the house today and I’m just wrapping up my 3rd successive listen.

Yeah Little Fictions is great, if not quite reaching the heights of their first two albums. Trust the Sun is one of their best songs. Haven't heard Giants, or their latest one, will have to check them out.

I love Elbow. One of the few consistently brilliant bands, right from their first album.
“My Trouble” from Giants… is a fantastic and beautiful song.
It tends to get overlooked but I’ve come to settle on The Take Off and Landing of Everything as my favourite Elbow album. It might not have a stand out song like a “Lippy Kids” or “One Day Like This” (although I’d argue “My Sad Captains” comes close) but I think it’s the most consistently great album start to finish. Where I might pick odd songs from other Elbow albums, I always start at the beginning and don’t skip anything with The Take Off….

That is my next album. Just gonna let this one sink in for a bit. It’s been kinda nice catching up with the output of a band and not having to wait a few years between albums.

The Beatles: Now and then, get in feckin class from the boys. So good to hear John and George one last time.

I listened to it this morning, on the walk home from work. I cried. It is fucking class. Dispiriting and uplifting at once. I wish I could listen to it with my Dad. We always argued who was the better Beatle, John or Paul. Then we’d listen to some of George’s stuff. He was the under appreciated one. But it fucking hurts that we don’t get to share this. My sisters youngest boy got into the Beatles. I loved him and Dad singing together.

Very melancholy, depending on your mood its either a up lifting "thanks for everything" or "good times tinged with sadness and maybe regrets" Just beautiful

I thought the song was good, but the video… starts off OK, but when they have superimposed Lennon larking around it looks awful and ruins the vibe.

Off to see Therapy? next month, so thought I'd give their newest album a listen (so I'm not just standing around waiting for Screamager).
I'm actually really enjoying it and looking forward to the gig even more.

Your mention of Therapy? has 1) Reminded me that they exist, and that it's been far too long since I listened to them. I think Disquiet was the last of their stuff that I heard.
and also,
2) That this song by Nojahoda exists, and I think I must have conflated the two in my head for some time.

In preparation for the Qotsa gigs I'm going to Sunday and Monday, I'm listening to the b sides and rareties they never play live and definitely won't play at the shows.
Definitely.
