Yello's "Oh Yeah" is indelibly linked with Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the greatest movie ever made. its on-screen use in something so crass as advertising is to demean a great cultural institution

I've just seen the Hyundai advert.
Fuck off. Fuck the fuck off. You've literally been saying "HI UN DIE" for years. In official marketing.

You should see the management speak that accompanies it:
Welcome to the dawn of a new Hyundai. 2023 marks the dawn of a new Hyundai in the UK. We’ve taken this opportunity to break the mould and embrace a new chapter for our cars and the company, including changing the pronunciation of the brand in the UK to bring it in line with the global organisation and our Korean heritage.

I actually prefer that to the advert that is all jokey about us not even knowing how to pronounce Hyundai, when we've just been saying it the way they've been telling us to say it.

That's what annoyed me. Even the adverts THEY'RE STILL RUNNING say it wrong.
"Stop saying our name wrong" "But that's how you've told me to say it for 30 years"
....
"Fuck off, you culturally insensitive prick"

And from a marketing perspective, there are literally dozens of ways to make this same point but better - without needing to insult your audience and staff.
Off the top of my head, you could have a kid learning Korean because K Pop say "dad, I think you're saying Hyundai wrong"
Or even just a nice, reassuring message that they're moving towards the Korean pronunciation to respect their heritage

Not TV, but those adverts for puzzle games that you get on your mobile that show the player getting a simple puzzle atrociously wrong.
I'm sure there's some kind of "i can do better than that" reaction that they're trying to trigger, but I just find they totally turn me away from any game that is advertised in that way.

"Who said electrification can't spark excitement when unplugged?"
Nobody, Nissan, nobody has ever said that. Nobody has ever opened their mouth and uttered the words "electrification can't spark excitement when unplugged". Nobody lies awake at night worrying about how dull electrification is when it's unplugged.
If the very first line in your car commercial is a blatant lie, how can we believe you when you say you fitted brake pads to this one?

The one of the player running from lava and having to solve puzzles to move on wins it for me. Especially as the reviews all say the actual game is nothing like that.

Homescapes is the one that winds me up. Especially now that it starts playing music and keeps killing any podcasts that I'm listening to at the same time.

I think even in that Hyundai ad there's 2 different people saying it 'correctly' and they both sound like different pronunciations.

Yeah that advert is genuinely upsetting, and I'm fairly sure that's not what they were aiming for.

Thought I posted it already, but apparently not. And even if I had it bears repeating.
The fucking betting ad with the woman buying coffee. “Oh… sorry I already have a girlfriend.”
Fuck off.
