It's as low effort as you can imagine, most of the budget went on hiring Gervais no doubt.

I often wonder how much of advertising actually translates into sales, especially for highly established brands. You think "well it must do, why else would they spend all that money?" but it could just be "well we've always done advertising and look where we are now" even if the numbers would be the same if they didn't. I guess noone is brave enough to roll the dice and find out at this point.

I thought adverts were rarely about your product but mainly to keep your brand's name in people's heads so when they do go shopping they consider your products over some "never heard of 'em" brand?

Think they are still being investigated for offering the old prices to anyone who uses them while charging ridiculous prices for those without.
