I only watch on my TV if I'm bored. There's a few channels I follow but I've noticed more and more ads. I've also noticed double ads. Eg: watch the first, skip the second and then two more appear.

If YouTube offered a simple no ads subscription that didn't include anything else and only cost £2-4 a month, I'm sure a lot of people would take it (yes, I know that there are ways to use VPNs to get a subscription super cheap). I assume the increase in number of ads in the last couple of years has been to push people to get Premium, but I can't image many are going to pay £12.99 for that when all they want to do is stop the arsing ads.

I'd be all over that plan like a rash if their music offering wasn't so rubbish. Or if they bundled it in with something actually useful like Google One. Or yeah, like you say a cheaper sub that's purely for YouTube premium.
I might go down the INR payment route for it again mind you.

I've been using YouTube Music for a while now, because tbh, it made more sense a family sub to that than having Spotify or Tidal that only I was using and it only cost a little bit more. It's really not that bad. There's odd times where the volume between tracks differs a bit glaringly when you have a big shuffle on and there's no option to normalise, but the quality is fine for my uses (headphones, car, Sonos, bluetooth speaker basically). Plus, it's basically already kept a history of everything you've ever played on YouTube if you were logged in, which is an interesting shuffle. YouTube is easily the most used app in this household and since we had the sub, would be the last one I'd be allowed to cancel.

I'm getting to the point where youtube on telly is unwatchable. We're talking the same unskippable 10-20 second ads every 4 minutes on some videos.
Melissa McCarthy can fuck off.
Is there a way to make my telly not show the ads? I really wouldn't be so bothered if they were less intrusive and relevant to me.

Adblock on a device and screen share ? It’s how I do it when it’s a bit much.

Sunglasses Hut commits so many ad sins
Its like the ads they make on the Apprentice but with the weirdly dubbed audio of a recycled ad from another territory

God help us when all Tv is streamed and ads are only skippable after 30 seconds.

Geefe is talking about YouTube on TV. I quite regularly watch YouTube through my Firestick and ads are a pain in the arse.
Think you can do an ad-blocker at the router, but no idea how you implement that.

Not sure about Firestick, but on the Google TV Chromecast you can just install Smarttubenext for Youtube. Ad free and feature packed, it's very good

Yeah, it's on any Android TV device, so presumably you could whack it on a Sony TV too (or have Sony they abandoned Android TV now?)
Got it on my Shield TV and love it. Sponsorblock makes you realise how much of videos are wasted on shilling.

Ah gotcha. Yeah it’s tedious as hell.
To make things worse they’ve knuckled down on the really bad ads from prospective London mayor candidates and similar. Those were brilliantly shit.

Youtube premium family via Turkey was $3.80AUD last month, so £1.99 for you lot. Well worth it IMO. I also use an American VPN to use it as US youtube has heaps of free TV shows and movies.

Cheers guys. I'm not hooking up cables and things to laptops for youtube but I'll see about an adblocker app or something.

Not annoying in anyway. I love the Virgin Media goat advert. Perfect choice of music to go with it

Zoom ad that's constantly on YouTube.
Some woman sitting on her couch with a dog needs a guy getting his hair cut to transfer another guy to her when he calls her office.

Started trying to watch a Channel 4 show in-browser on my phone today. I don’t know how they’ve managed it but the ads are even more intrusive and frustrating than on the tv app.
5+ minute ad breaks including full length movie trailers every time you unpause it or attempt to skip back or forward? And regular long ad breaks throughout as if it was broadcast tv?
I managed to watch ten minutes of my show across a half hour lunch break.

I can't believe the human race has become so lazy that not having to bend down to put your shoes on is a major selling point.

To be fair that kind of thing can be useful for people with mobility issues and stuff, so I'm not too against it.

I don't know if it's cropped up on the thread before, but that "lady walks into a coffee shop and embarrasses herself in front of the barista lady" one is really starting to get to me.
I'm all for making sure that the media, including adverts, games, films, whatever, is more inclusive, but it just feels SO FORCED.
I'm sure everyone involved is lovely really.
