She seemed pretty cool and did a lot of good stuff, such as appearing on iCarly , but I do wonder if her running would be a net benefit or loss when it comes to motivating democrat voters vs motivating trump voters. I suspect it'll be Biden though. Somewhat bland and middle of the road though he is, that's also the thing that probably makes him less of an intrinsic threat to the fragile world view of Trump supporters.

Her being Obama’s wife doesn’t mean she has no merit beyond that. She’s a brilliant woman and a very credible leader. Perhaps more so than Obama was. I agree! I'm just saying there's a perception that American presidential politics is too focused on dynasties, and that might affect her viability even if she has objective merit. (which I think she does, her story is actually pretty inspirational)

A lot of DeSantis supporters don’t like Trump that much, so him withdrawing could end up closing the gap between him and Haley. As much as he likes to paint Iowa as a big win, it was far from a walkover and doesn’t show much in the way of shifting his base. Moderates and young voters didn’t favor him, nor did most single issue voters. It was also a super low turnout, which makes percentage differences look bigger. NH will really be the bellwether to watch. Yeah this. The sooner they get to Trump Vs not Trump the better. it'll become clearer whether he has 50% or is just the single most popular candidate in a large field. Plus a bunch of the primaries include swing votersm

It is interesting that a while ago he was pretty close to Trump in the polls. It wasn't that long ago that Trump wasn't all that popular, even among the Maga lot, and you got the sense they thought of DeSantis as an alternative.
But it feels like all the lawsuits against him have coalesced the support back around Trump, and he now seems about as popular as he ever was among that side. It doesn't seem like he's done anything particularly impressive to achieve it, or that Ron did anything particularly wrong. But if they like Trump again then they don't really have a need for alternative Trump.

Any chance whatsoever that Trump doesn't effectively sew up the Republican nomination in New Hampshire today?

Update: he won. Not by a huge margin, but by enough. So yeah, unless the courts or God intervenes, it's going to be Trump again. Probably against Biden again.

Well let’s hope that before Trump wins and our world hastens down its death spiral we get to hear Biden tell him to “shut up” one more time.

It does feel like with the current momentum Trump is going to win.
Be interested to see how that validates his policy decisions. Feels like the moderates that tempered his previous presidency are going to be steam rolled.
Fuck China and Build a Wall.

Trump is looking likely to win in November according to various polls that have been conducted in the past few weeks. Could all change of course by the time the polling stations open but he is cruising to victory in the GOP nomination race so his supporters are strongly fancying their chances.

I used to care about the orange man getting into power again but I do not anymore. Let him have his 4 years, wait, does this mean he could actually run for another 8 years if he won?

Not constitutionally, but as we’ve seen the US Constitution means jack-shit to him and his cronies.

The election is so far away that it seems kinda meaningless to take anything from poll results at the moment. So many things could happen between now and November, such as one or both of them dying.
They seem pretty close in the polls, trading places at times, so it's all a bit random until nearer the date.

Polls are meaningless even up to the date, that’s been proven pretty solidly in the past decade.

If something like 40% of Republican voters are voting against him in primaries there's plenty who'll likely not turn out on polling day. And it's very rare for incumbents to not make gains as an election nears, as Don't Knows choose keeping the status quo over change.

Remembering that Russia used to have limitations on how long someone could be president too so that's why Putin became prime minister as he'd hit the limit.
Constitutions only matter if you've got people who'll keep to them and strong enough checks and balances to keep them to it.

Also don't forget Trump has some idiot coke addicted sons of his own that like to get in the political limelight. So Trump senior might not be able to run any more but think Trump voters would be all too happy to have a nice Dynasty going for the next decade or so
