I think everyone saying the case is weak or the evidence is weak should consider that the grand jury operates in secret and you haven’t heard the case or see the evidence. To indict, a majority of the 23 jurors need to vote yes, so at least 12 people thought the case was strong, and Bragg has been extremely slow and careful, and really obviously believes the case is strong. We do know from the relevant lawyers that there is a lot of document evidence to back up the witness testimony. We won’t know until the actual charge is announced, but the general understanding has been that Trump misused campaign finance to pay off a porn star, that the way he documented it was fraudulent, and that he’s exactly the kind of fuckwit to openly brag about his crimes in text messages and memos. And also, Cohen already served time for this exact crime, so there doesn’t seem much doubt that it’s a crime.

Isn't the GOP supposed to be the law and order party? I guess orange-collar crime doesn't count?

They're the law and order party in the same way the Conservatives are the party of business.

It's seems pretty straightforward to prove whether the payment to Daniels was truthfully accounted for. There is no dispute that there was a payoff - which isn't in itself illegal. But this was then inaccurately accounted for, which is illegal.
It's only a misdemeanor, so to be honest jail time seems unlikely.
The campaign part is likely much harder to prove (I understand it hasn't been successfully proven in other examples yet), but is a felony.

So you have to assume they have documents showing Trump knew and admitted it was for his election chances - not to protect Melania’s “feelings” - or they wouldn’t have bothered.

(pure speculation)
If it's been illegally accounted then the prospect of proving campaign fraud becomes easier.

Yeah CNN reported 30 charges related to business fraud, so sounds like it's more than just the Stormy Daniels payoff.

I think they included the boobs woman to get everyone’s attention. “Hey mister, check out these massive… tax return discrepancies.”

He'll try to do his usual - tie this up with legal arguments and suchlike - but he doesn't have any lawyers worth a shit left, so it's likely to be pure theatre. He's past that point now, there is no more ducking and diving. The best he can do is angle for a mistrial, and the prosecutors know that, so will keep it tight as a drum. Perjury is the inevitable cherry on top of this, and every up coming court appointment he has in the next year. And he has quite a few things to answer to long before this will be over with.

One thing we do know is that Trump will answer every question and not plead the 5th as only guilty people plead the 5th.

Very much looking forward to the paparazzi perp walk to processing and eventual mugshot tomorrow.
I'll be printing that on a t-shirts with This Makes America Great or something and putting it up for sale. I expect to be a brazillionaire before the end of the week.

Thought this was fucking weird, then discovered it's now the fifth state to bring it back. America is just too fucking strange.

Well, I think they ran out of the poison they need for lethal injections a while back, so had to bring back older methods not subject to supply chain issues, like being drowned in a sack, stoning etc.

Like most things state level GOP it’s mostly grandstanding. Idaho’s only had 3 executions in the last 50 years, and this’ll go straight to court judgments against the 8th amendment. The only firing squad executions that happened in other states where it’s been “legalized” happened at the explicit request of the condemned, as soon as you get one that isn’t a direct request it’ll fire off legal challenges up to the Supreme Court pretty quickly.

It’s probably more humane than lethal injection or electrocution.

Isn't it firing squad so no single person is responsible? Which is fucking ridiculous, given America. I can imagine there'd be people lining up to do it.

They'd save money on bullets and not need any lethal injection poison by putting the occupants of death row in schools while they're open and the next spree killer will take them out.

I was reading an article yesterday that was pondering the theory that Trump’s biggest problem could be himself, and if he shoots his mouth off in court, with it being on oath, he could land himself in bigger problems.

It's been suggested that he is going to make a single line statement. I'll believe it when I see it.

It's been suggested that he is going to make a single line statement. I'll believe it when I see it. "Look, having nuclear — my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart — you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the smartest people anywhere in the world — it’s true! — but when you're a conservative Republican they try — oh, do they do a number — that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune — you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged — but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me — it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are — nuclear is so powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what's going to happen and he was right, who would have thought? — but when you look at what's going on with the four prisoners — now it used to be three, now it’s four — but when it was three and even now, I would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don't, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years — but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us, this is horrible."
